  • Kerusi Perai (N16) dipegang P. Ramasamy, timbalan ketua menteri (II) iaitu seorang “warlord” DAP.
    .

Petikan laporan The Star (18 Mac 2012):

“Lim Guan Eng was not exaggerating when he claimed to have the support of 90% of the Chinese in Penang.

The Chinese did make up about 90% of those who paid between RM60 and RM100 per head to attend the DAP’s election fund-raising dinner on Tuesday night.”

  1. DUN Penanti mempunyai 15,384 orang pemilih berdaftar.

  2. This is in fact (ie a Malay CM) was the exact tactic used by DAP in the 13th GE to scare the Chinese to vote for them. I wonder why no one even questioned how a “meritocratic” party like DAP can oppose a Malay CM in Penang when they can agree to a Malay PM if PR wins the Federal level elections.

BTW, my estimate is by 14GE the Malays will be the majority. The only way a Chinese will be the CM is through a narrow majority and this will mean the CM will be weak politically. Even if PR wins, there is a big possibility that the CM will be a Malay. But I already hear demands from PAS and PKR that the Malays to be given more posts and power. Ironically for LGE, it is better to have the Malays to support UMNO more than PAS/PKR. Othwerwise PRK/PAS will demand a Malay CM even if they don’t have more seats than DAP individually. As long as PAS/PKR have more or equal seats to DAP, LGE will have problem holding on to the CM post. It will be a nightmare if all three parties (PKR/PAS, DAP and BN) have more less the same number of seats. This means LGE will have to deal with PAS/PKR as well as UMNO.

Anyway, I predict rude awakening for LGE in 14GE. I don’t think the Chinese support is 90% level as many of my politically neutral Chinese friends are horrified with his Dear Leader style politics and leadership. I think by 15GE, DAP will be out of Penang.

    1. ..there is a big possibility that the CM will be a Malay

I don’t know about that prediciton.I don’t think it would be in PR’s or BN’s interest to have a CM who is Malay in Penang. Let me explain.

The common slur bandied among racialist/chauvinist/plain racist non-malays is that the chinese/indians built malaysia .

If we continue with that line of unreasoning, then Malays are therefore the consummate managers for the past 50+ years.

As you may know from any organisation, it’s always the management who gets final credit if their organisation succeeds. Alternatively, management would blame the ‘workers who built malaysia’ if their organisation fails.

      That’s typically how MANAGEMENTTM works.

So, if I were a good manager, i would still continue to have a chinese CM in Penang for the following reasons

      -Continue status quo
-Malays in Penang already know how Chinese CM work
-Satisfy chinese throughtout Malaysia by showing how gracious malay politicians are
-Maintain the marketing of Penang as the “Pearl of the Orient“. Malays aren’t oriental. Sorry, we just don’t qualify in the marketing sense.

Although continuing the tradition of a Chinese CM may risk angering the Penang malays, I can safely say that a few political gestures would placate the malay community there. Knowing how my penang side of the family operates, it can be easily be done. Malays just aren’t as demanding as chinese.

Futhermore, I think Penang malays historically play well with Penang chinese. In many cases that I know of, they have developed symbiotic relationships that other parts of peninsular malaysia can’t rival.

If DAP had even one Malay Adun, they could have nominated him for Perak MB in 2008. In this case, Penangites have practically booted out the BN Chinese. Matter of logistics. — Helen

      1. Management ^TM

The “TM” is supposed to be superscripted using and ,but apparently wordpress doesn’t allow? helen may have disabled that html script.

  3. Helen dear, you are dangling out good bait, but little reaction from the little fishee. only small nibbles.

    1. LOL. You’re not by any chance from the north or have family/relatives living there (with views to share)? As someone critical of LGE, I’m being subjected to the Amanat Hadi treatment by “my own kind”.

      1. I have some family members living in Penang. My father actually supports LGE and thinks that he is doing a good job. Believe it or not… Call Ripley’s!
        ______________________________________________________________________________________

Your dad will be comforted to know that LGE is gonna be bossing around for at least the next 10 years (2 terms). — Helen

      2. >> I have some family members living in Penang. My father actually supports LGE and thinks that he is doing a good job. Believe it or not… Call Ripley’s!

Believe it or not, there are many Bumi’s who support DAP, 2gether with PKR & PAS.

        Overseas too long? : )

  4. Good and frequent input in here also by calvinsankaran. I also like quite a lot of what he says. But I think there’s a chance that the arrogant, racist and chauvinist DAP will fall at PRU13 because of cakap tak serupa bikin.

They accuse everybody of wrong doing but Lim Guan Eng was said by the Chinese papers to have bulldozed the nearly RM 1 billion sPICE project award on Turn-Key basis – his close associate, the Penang Chinese Chamber of Commerce President got it – and hoo haa the so-called “tender” of the Bayan Mutiara RM1.07 billion land sale but could not answer the specific charges brought out by various quarters in Penang etc.

I don’t have anything good to say of DAP. My comments on them will be full of rancour and vitriol. I’d stay out for now and watch from the sidelines.

  5. Helen,

Luckily now you aware why we must give a full support for DAP & LGE in Penang. Or otherwise we gonna see a Malay holding the CM post in level 28 KOMTAR.

Surely DAP Penang is not perfect (only one term mah!), so lets give them a chance for another 5 years to prove and look what they can give and deliver for rakyat.

I think everyone knows that DAP is too strong in Penang and its very good for BN if they can win one or two seat. DAP will have again another clean sweep while PAS & PKR increasing their seat. PCM??? Pergi Cari Makan kat lain negri lah!!!

After GE, I think we can appoint Lim Kit Siang as the next new Governor of Penang.

Dont hate the Lim’s too much Helen. They had been fight for our right since merdeka (even b4 you’re born maybe?). I think the Lim’s deserve reward and recognition as the truly Malaysian! (not 1Malaysia but Malay first type lah!!!)
    ___________________________________________________________________________

I agree that Kit Siang & Karpal deserve recognition (Tan Sri or Tun) and we owe them for what they’ve stood for all these years. But beware DAP 2.0 & the direction it is leading the Chinese. — Helen

Reason: The pseudonym is unacceptable (applying same guideline as the another previous comment blocked for using the pseudonym ‘fakyourmom‘).

Freedom of expression comes with the responsibility of decorum which some quarters are obviously lacking. — Helen

  7. UMNO is strong on the mainland, if MCA can get just one or two seats on the island, Penang will be back with BN. Time to kick out DAP from Penang

  8. Chinese in penang are arrogant, i have heard from friends from the semicon there there where the HR departments ,always held by a chinese will not hire any Malay engineers and even try to hire foreign operators rather than locals(Malays).

Ironically, the poor Malays who barely benefitted from the 10 percent bumi discount on houses or any MARA benefits receive the ire of the chauvinists chinese in penang who start their careers having betterr pay that their malay clunterparts but deny mLys basic dignity in finding a low paid job in themanufacturing industry in Penang.I have a friend in OSRAM and she and another indian was the only non chinese in the pool of engineers des
Ite she graduated from the universi of melbourne with a double degree and she knows her pay is a rung lower than her KTAR Chinese counterpart who is slelected to train in Germany over her.

With the arrogant attitude of certajn chauvjnists or anglopholes who spit at the malays over their trivial victory is testing the malays..another 13th May happen in Penang if race relations deteriorate…and we will know who will be the biggest loser.

    1. Forrestcat, I am in the semicon industry in Penang and what you heard is true indeed. It is indeed a struggle for non-Chinese to progress here. I sense the Malay sentiment is very strong here seeing the arrogance of DAP led government and the way they treat the minority Malays and Indians.

    2. I agree with the observations made by Forrestcat. It’s really unfortunate that the chinese still give preferential treatment to their own. This ‘inherent chinese affirmative action’ existed even before NEP. I can imagine how malaysia it would be like without NEP.

I am in Thailand now. I see how a thai-chinese with a C-grade GPA can get positions ahead of malay-looking thais. But this is the reality that Thais face in their desire to appear like the champion of ‘equality’ and ‘meritocracy’ to the outside world. To me, it looks like survival of the fittest, law of the jungle here. Of course, in such an environment, white anglo saxons naturally rise to top, sometimes undeservingly.

      Are the Chinese inherently racist?

      1. OverseasBumi,

I have spent years working in HK, Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia and Philippines. It is all the same. It is always kulitocracy rather than true meritocracy in reality. The worse was in Singapore where the minorities are treated even worse than like migrants in the name of meritocracy.

As for Penang, I can write a multi-volume books on my experience.

      2. Green shirts are the new brown shirts! Heil Lim !

Crap, I have just proven Godwin’s law.

      3. Helen…Interesting news. Notice the old uncles in the picture. Looks like Ah Beng is marshalling retirees into battle the evil BN/UMNO regime too.

The green t-shirts are interesting too, and since all of these shirts are of same design and color, it could only means someone sponsored them.

Not surprised that developers are sponsoring these holy warriors. Read my latest letter at FMT. Even the poor people’s money also the Cheap Minister does not spare, he sapu them all for his cronies.
        _______________________________________________________________________________

I read your FMT letter yesterday. Btw, I’ve noticed that “they” cannot bear to mention Umno properly. They will say “evil dUMNO” or “bUMNO”. Sad … so much hate marshalled. — Helen

      4. I am in Malaysia now. I see how well connected Malays with no experience can get multimillion dollar contracts n loan for projects, livestock farms ahead of experienced Malays, Chinese, & Indians. Also I see how poor Chinese, Bumi and Indian fail to get government assistance because they are non Malay/ not Muslim. And also how many Malay Muslim fail to get government help because they are not pro BN. Maybe this is the reality we face in our desire to become like Najib’s 1Malaysia?

        Are the Malays inherently racist?

Or is it the pro BN people cannot think outside racial lines?

      5. Dave has nothing original to write and so copies from my comment.

I am not a BN supporter. I live and work overseas because I am sick and tired of BN’s brand of politics.

However, I see that Pakatan is no better. In fact, in the case of DAP, they are much worse for Malaysia. They are divisive and they are tearing apart Malaysia’s socio-political fabric.

If Dave hates Malaysia so much or is disappointed with his perception of ‘unfairness’, do what I am doing. Live and work overseas. Or is he afraid or not qualified enough?

I am leaving Thailand. I have pointed out the hidden racism/colorism and discrimination that exists here to my colleagues. Only a few Thais I know are willing to admit it.

Some deny the failings of Thai society because they blinded by a thai / buddhist sense of karmic compromise and ไม่เป็นไร. Some are just driven by political ambitions and enjoy seeing the world burn.

      6. >> Dave has nothing original to write and so copies from my comment.

actually i am using your own arguements & assumptions, with a little twist to show the fallacy of your thinking.

        >> If Dave hates Malaysia so much or is disappointed with his perception of ‘unfairness’, do what I am doing. Live and work overseas. Or is he afraid or not qualified enough?

I’ve worked in Silicon Valley before on several projects. Don’t assume and say I have not lived or worked abroad.

      7. Dave worked in silly-conned valley? Sure it wasn’t just a secondment or short term assignment given to you by your employer, which is probably a taiwanese semi-conned factory.

I meant you should work permanently overseas and NEVER come back.

I have a permanent position overseas! I can choose never to come back to Malaysia.

But I notice even while I am overseas, your kind still ‘stink up the place’ . Boy, I feel so racist and it’s exhilarating.

      8. Just to clarify that feeling of racist exhilaration I experience when criticizing a whole bunch of people using code words and subtext is probably the same orgasmic feeling that DAP gets when they criticize UMNO.

I can understand their joy in attacking an entire group of people, while feigning innocence and righteousness!

  9. The thing that puzzle me is this. Why do the Chinese in Penang, who wholeheartedly support meritocracy and equal rights, insist on a Chinese CM ?Shouldn’t the CM be the best person for the job rather than defined by his ethnicity ? I asked many of my Penang Chinese friends and they were evasive. The bottom line is they think the job is theirs by right. But funnily they can accept Anwar as PM if Pakatan wins the 14th GE.

    1. Trust me, they will change their tune as soon as you say that CM should be based on meritocracy. They will probably say that ‘strength of character’ is more important. I have seen this too many times in the professional world.

The chinese come into malaysia with a sense of entitlement.

      1. “The chinese come into malaysia with a sense of entitlement.”

OB, if this has a racist a la malaysia subtext to it, then i’d chalk it to residues of your earlier racist exhilarations. :)

i’d agree with this comment only to the extent that i believe chinese emigrants from before till today do go everywhere in the world, not just to malaysia, with a deep sense of being entitled to rewards if they endeavour. this trait has served them well wherever they find themselves.

i think any added hue to this basic trait is probably something which developed later based on where they settled and the society they settled into.

hence i do believe any “taint” found in the malaysian chinese are strictly of malaysian doing, i.e. malaysian and not strictly chinese in nature.

*this is based on my probably rather shallow observation of chinese people in general. i’m a malay person who has lived most of my life outside malaysia in a few different parts of the world.

    2. i dun know what is meritocracy. but i know that penang chinese booted out a chinese cm, and they would do that again if the present one also lack merit.

      unbelievable right?

      1. HuaYong, the Penang Chinese kicked out the Chinese CM from Gerakan just to replace him with a racist and chauvinist Chinese CM from DAP whom they feel will protect their ethnic interests better. This has nothing to do with merit. KTK has a PhD while LGE only has a general accounting degree. KTK is highly knowledgeable in international business while LGE is an ex-con who only know how to street fight.

      2. Yup, totally knocks out calvinsankaran’s arguement. : )

I notice the pro BN people, even Helen Ang, can only talk in race race race format. Cannot think outside the box.

By the way, Koh may have PHD while Lim only a basic degree… but in the end it boils down to work experience and ability.

Mark Zuckerberg and Bill Gates were college dropouts, but they head multi billion companies. Similarly, Koh was indecisive while Lim is more able in attracting investment to the state.

  12. Helen, even before DAP came into picture, when Gerakan was still mighty in Penang, there was already suggestion from UMNO for the chief minister post to be rotated. Mind you, it was not only once this idea was being mooted, it is more than once. Heck, even after DAP becomes the main player in Penang, there are again voices within PKR asking for the post to be rotated. Maybe it’s just a matter of time when the post is going to be rotated, and slowly to be permanently held by a Malay leader in Penang, just like Sabah’s chief minister post. DAP’s ascendancy in Penang will probably hasten the eventual outcome by maybe, a decade or two.
    _________________________________________________________________________________

DAP’s ascendancy will hasten the marginalization of Chinese. What they touch turns into confrontation, like Lynas. — Helen

    1. Ralat:

….DAP’s ascendancy in Penang will probably *hasten the eventual outcome by maybe, a decade or two….

      * Should be delay instead of hasten.

  13. Lousy engineering,

In 1990, DAP trounced Gerakan, MCA. unfortunately it was not good enough as UMNO stood on its way of capturing “tanjung 3”. With UMNO as the most number of seats in BN Penang, romours set in that UMNO will be offered the coveted post.

Istill remember that was the time a Thai friend of my brother in law visited Penang. He was puzzled. Just appoint the guy from the biggest party.

I said that was not the case as Prime Minister has to think the “air muka” orang Cina. Everywhere in this world, in this scenario, people will give the same conclusion. Appoint the person from the biggest party in coalition.

Not difficult to do so. Power is in UMNO’ hand. And nobody can question Dr mahathir on this. DAP felt threatened. It had asked to Chinese to whack Gerakan, MCA . But unfortunately the whacking was not serious enough until it result in justification for UMNO Chief Minister.

When Dr Mahathir appointed Dr koh, the Thai friend was puzzled again. What party is this that is so charitable, giving way the coveted post?

The point here is that if UMNO thinks of Malays only, it would have gotten the post in 1990.

Just as Malays realize that the post of Prime minister will not exclusively be for Malays for eternity, the Chinese must not get the idea that God never guarantees the post(CM) for Chinese only.

For Muslims, all of them realize that nowhere in Quran states that Prime minister is a Malay. and Constitution is just a piece of paper. what hold the constitution until resulting the malay to control politics is by UMNO earning the post through election.

As for discrimination, I have seen them many times. a perticular case of an employee from a bank who wrote to Bank Negara in 1990, protesting why all of 16 audit dept staff who did not receive one cent of bonus “happened” to be Malays. Bank Negara asked for justification. The bank was not able to justify why all of them “happened” to be malays.

Finally, they were given bonus. what does it mean? It means that they were initially not given bonus simply because they are Malays.

The same case with stalls demolished in pandan Perdana( teratai DUN). All stall owners “happened” to be Malays while the stall owned by Chinese remain “intact”.

  14. a good party leader need to fullfilled their people need.Take as example in Penang state.

There are chineses, malays, indians and even mamaks.

we more often eat with mamaks restaurant in penang why ???
because of taste good ,but at the same time they are good business group also ..can admit it

Guys, penang doesnt have sultan pro or cons for someone maybe or not??

THE MAIN REASON WHY THIS MALAY HATES AND WANT TO REVENGE ??

    They realise …

It is a shame ,those who penangsite even cannot afford to buy a home in Balik Pulau .. neither it can be chinese, malay or indians.
The buyers are many from Singaporeans,Johor,Kl and even they didnt stay here but buy at 650K sold at 900K !!!

where is people purchasing power ?? it look towards only to monopoly by the riches.

why,if CM penang build low cost house or medium cost it will cost loss ?? to the state ………..blah,blah ……

where the poor will go ??? why there is no low or medium house build in balik pulau or at any main city in penang ??

If you are the great CM of penang why You not challenge Najib to build 50,000 medium cost affordable house to rakyat in penang ??

simple answer .. no profit for penang state maah … lose maah …no different with bn before …

    t

  15. i din see any relation between chinese CM and malay PM…. u all very strong in relate thing… salute!
