Hitam metalik tetapi putih melepak

Di antara penyanyi berkulit putih yang suara mereka, saya rasa, macam Negro ialah Adele (YouTube bawah) dan Elvis.

Carly Simon: Oscar / Lagu Terbaik

Majalah seni muzik Rolling Stone melaporkan semalam bahawa album Adele berjudul ‘21′ telah dicalonkan untuk Album of the Year dan Record of the Year. Lagu Rolling in the Deep dari album tersebut juga dijangka favourite untuk memenangi Song of the Year.

Natalie pernah terkenal dengan lagunya sendiri Miss You Like Crazy (klik).

Seorang penyanyi ternama era Woodstock ialah Carly Simon (lagu You’re So Vain – klik). Beliau kacukan, dengan bapanya keturunan Yahudi manakala emaknya ‘black’-Jerman.

Carly dianugerahkan Academy Award untuk gubahannya Let the River Run (klik), iaitu lagu tema untuk filem Working Girl (1988) dibintangi Melanie Griffith, isteri Antonio Banderas (bakat filem kartun-CGI Puss in Boots).

  1. Dude, it’s a struggle to read your BM. Aku rasa biar ko blog dlm English sajer, habis cite. At least you’ll get your point across.

Then go to the English blogs, Mahendi. They’re even more plentiful. — Helen

    1. Since 99.75 percent of reader comments here are let through, regular visitors will already know that I give a pass (i.e. not making a reply) to many taunts, insults and criticisms. However, I do take issue with the comment above which undermines the very purpose that this blog is using Malay.

I’m aware that a good number of my readers are effectively bilingual/trilingual but I’ve also noticed that some write their comments in BM when they could just as easily/preferably do so in English or they alternate between one language & the other. This is in keeping with the spirit of our dialogue and why I’ve made the effort to have the majority of the postings in BM (for the comfort of silent readers who may prefer BM) and seen how Malay readers proficient in English have reciprocated in the same vein.

Among the reasons why our public discourse is sabotaged is the attitude of those who deliberately seek to undermine. I’ll give three examples. To me, Zaid Ibrahim, Chua Soi Lek and P. Uthayakumar have the most sensible ideas to share.

But if you see the usual barrage of comments greeting them, the detractors don’t engage their arguments but attack the person, i.e. throwing the retorts “kaki botol” and associated slurs to discredit, labelling “porn star” to make as if the man has absolutely no moral standing to say anything, and “racist” to derail our other friend so that he does not get a platform.

I’m guessing the “you’re being paid” allegation has palled b’cos it’s so cheaply over-used.

Even former Perlis mufti Dr Asri has been called ‘Umno stooge‘ by PAS, Uthaya a “racist” & Umno agent by DAP, and there’s the utterly wild accusation that Tok Guru Nik Aziz is planted in PAS by Umno!

So now it’s this … casting aspersions on my BM b’cos I’m not Malay. It’s all over again the same method used on P. Kalamanathan when he was campaigning in the Hulu S’gor by-election (if you can recall).

It just implies critics are running out of capital.

If the public persists in adopting this type of approach to continually distract and demoralize speakers, then this country will assuredly get the level of public discussion that we deserve.

Remember that we (bloggers & others) are doing this in the spirit of volunteerism. We don’t have an exhaustible supply of stamina in the face of this kind of national destructiveness even tho’ we uphold the freedom of speech.

      1. Mama Helen…, marah nampak, …”Dude, it’s a struggle to read your BM. Aku rasa biar ko blog dlm English sajer”… i look at it this way, the problem is in your writing ability or his reading disability? , now mama i am trying to write in english here….dont post it up before you correct my grand ma….Peace helen.

    2. Saya rasa Helen Ang menulis dengan baik dalam Bahasa Melayu.
      Jelas dan mudah difahami.
      Teruskan menulis dalam bahasa kebangsaan.
      Terima kasih.

Well said, Helen. As evident in online media now, intelligent public discussion is at an all time low. With the kind of unintelligent detractors around these days, not only has civilised public discussion become a privilege in this country, it seems the last vestiges of intelligence itself seem to be in threat of extinction. God save us all from this national scale vacuousness.

Btw, are you a fan of Simon? I am. I really dig her Your’e So Vain and especially, Nobody Does It Better. Her voice damn syiok, lah:)

  3. HITAM BERKILAT, PUTIH HAPAK,
    HITAM MEMIKAT ,PUTIH HAPRAK,
    BUKAN HITAM ATAU PUTIH,
