This posting follows on from my dissection of a recent cover story in The Rocket by a writer calling herself Chung Hosanna.
In her article, Hosanna – an evangelist Christian from the sound of her name – parroted the DAP standard line by declaring her Malaysian First rejection of identification by race.
Like her mentors in Rocket, the party organ which she works for, Hosanna proclaimed: “I want a system in Malaysia that doesn’t care what race I am.”
To which I had made the rejoinder yesterday:
“Fine. Some of us think you’re Klingons but in your own Malaysian Malaysia utopia, whatever lah.“

Who are the Klingons?
Klingons are a race possessing “a genetic predisposition to hostility” living on the planet Kronos. For a very long time, the Klingon language had no word for the concept of ‘peacemaker’.
The Klingons generally enjoy loud revelry, eat their meat raw and during their get-together drinking sessions, there is “a great deal of growling, wrestling and snarling” that goes on.
However, they are a race that’s willing to work as hard as they play, and a Klingon puts his work ahead of his family.
Klingons regard other races such as the Ferengi, and the Romulans (their blood enemies), with the utmost disdain.

The un-Chinese DAPsters
The title of this post refers to Karpal Singh, chairman of the DAP.
Karpal represents the old DAP. He is against hudud and the Islamic State.
The new DAP no longer objects to hudud. Hosanna in her Rocket cover story wrote:
“MCA’s constant harping on the PAS and Islamic State boogeyman sounded like a broken record – and a bad one at that. By and large, Chinese Malaysians today no longer fear PAS, which has increasingly moved to the center with a tone of moderation.”
Karpal had also protested Anwar Ibrahim’s attempt to entice Barisan MPs to hop over to Pakatan, which he saw as an unethical move.

But instead of thanking Karpal for his continuous valiant efforts in trying to keep his party honest, the DAPsters turn on him instead. In the Godfather vs Warlord spat, they even accused him of selling out to Umno.
The post-2008 phenomenon among DAP members of denying their ethnicity is confined to the party’s Christian and Anglophile factions.
Karpal has never denied that he is a Punjabi. Unlike the evangelist English speakers in DAP, Karpal has never publicly claimed that his keturunan is Bangsa Malaysia.
On the other hand, the DAP non-Mandarin speakers such as Hannah (backed by Lim Guan Eng) are petitioning the government to introduce a new category of ethnicity in our official documentation. This newly invented ‘race’ box that they’re demanding is labeled Bangsa Malaysia.
Hannah Yeoh, when she filled an official form (her baby’s birth cert application) at the National Registration Department, had written down her own keturunan as ‘Bangsa Malaysia’ … not ‘Chinese’.
The Firsters adamantly refuse to be identified as being of Chinese or Indian descent.
Born Again — DAP 2.0
Calvin Sankaran, a regular commenter in this blog, believes that the DAP Big Brothers have successfully propagated ‘newspeak’ among their party faithful.
[The term ‘Big Brother’ derives from 1984, “a dystopian tale in which language and truth is corrupted”.]
Newspeak refers to “deliberately ambiguous and contradictory language used to mislead and manipulate the public”. Related: Doublespeak, “language intended to distort or obscure its actual meaning”.
Calvin penned the following response to Hosanna.
Excerpt:
“Reading these articles churned out by the likes of Hosanna chillingly reminds me of Orwell’s novel ‘1984’. I think the Dear Leaders of DAP have learnt much from the novel on how to control thoughts and spread propaganda.”
Quoting from the George Orwell classic, Calvin noted the following indoctrination – for example the concept of ‘blackwhite’ – amongst DAPsters:
“Applied to a Party member, it means a loyal willingness to say that black is white when Party discipline demands this. But it means also the ability to believe that black is white, and more, to know that black is white, and to forget that one has ever believed the contrary.”
Calvin adds that he thinks “this Hosanna also displays a mastery of Duckspeak”.
Definition of Duckspeak
“A term meaning literally to quack like a duck or to speak without thinking. Duckspeak can be either good or “ungood” (bad), depending on who is speaking, and whether what they are saying is in following with the ideals of Big Brother. To speak rubbish and lies may be ungood, but to speak rubbish and lies for the good of ‘The Party’ may be good.”
Islamic State, Hosanna
Another reader Alex Lee throws the following question for open discussion.
It is a relevant query given Hosanna’s Rocket cover story that declares MCA is beginning to sound like a broken record warning against the Islamic State as well as stating DAP’s firm belief that Chinese today no longer fear PAS.

Alex’s musing is aligned with an increasing worry regarding the DAP Doublespeak.
The chameleon new leadership has turned upside down and inside out whatever principles the old party used to hold; black becomes white becomes colour blind.
In addition to the Doublespeak, the Malaysian Firsters are showing evident symptoms of Orwellian Doublethink.
