The secret thoughts of Our Beloved Chief Minister

When Joceline Tan once wrote in passing that Buletin Mutiara, the Penang government publication which is distributed to the entire state is filled with photographs of Kim Guan Eng “grinning broadly, attending dinners, inspecting project sites and carrying babies”, not many of us quite realised the great extent of truth in her description.

Umno gives up on Chinese vote

Reuters had this story yesterday, ‘Malaysia government losing Chinese support’:

“The trend risks deepening racial fault lines if, as some analysts expect, the lead party in the coalition, Umno effectively ‘gives up’ on the Chinese vote and focuses on championing Malay rights to secure support in rural areas.”

I wrote along the same track too in my FMT article yesterday saying, “Post GE, the establishment will be decidedly Malay and the opposition Chinese-dominated”.

If you win the election, then you change the law, lah

With the old MACC investigation on Azmin Ali surfacing again, we see the most revealing squirms coming from the quarters that are campaigning most ferociously for Pakatan Rakyat.

Now what’s interesting about this squirming is the visible shifting in positions, or if you want another word, ‘Change’.

Dr M, his daughter and the middle-class malaise

A survey by Merdeka Center on the prime minister’s approval rating post-Bersih 3.0 showed that satisfaction with him remained very high still at 82% among lower income (<RM1,500 monthly) respondents.

However the poll found that only half of middle-class households (RM3,000-RM5,000/mth) were satisfied with the PM.
