“Bernama and The Star’s credibility is being questioned again for falsifying or doctoring pictures…”.

Tuduhan yang dibuat Ramakrishnan itu amat berat. Dia berkata bahawa gambar Bernama yang dipaparkan di muka depan The Star pada 21 Ogos 2012 adalah “pembohongan terang-terangan” (“is a blatant lie”).
Pada gambar berkenaan ada tertera satu peringatan: “Only for usage within pmo.gov.my domain”.
Ramakrishnan mendakwa:
“Bernama in its overzealousness to portray the people’s support for PM Dato Seri Najib Tun Razak altered images, cropping, copying and pasting scenes from other crowded scenes so much so the true image appeared doctored.
“It was downright alteration and manipulation which the Barisan Nasional has employed several times and this time on a Holy Day of Ramadan Festival.”

Boleh baca, ‘Stand united and build a better country, CFM urges Malaysians‘.
Kalau iklan barangan selalu menyebut ‘Buy 2 get 1 free’, ini kes ‘Buy Star, get to read Rocket free.
Isinya Rocket, wartawannya Malaysiakini
Semalam The Star memberitakan penyertaan Ong Kian Ming dalam DAP:
“Ong in particular is famed for his political analysis published in Malaysiakini, apart from his day job as a lecturer at UCSI University.
“In announcing their entry, party secretary-general Lim Guan Eng said Ong will be helping him in the party’s election strategy while Yeo, will be assisting DAP in crafting social media strategies in their effort to woo young voters.”
Rencana Star bertajuk ‘DAP recruits new members‘ ditulis oleh Regina Lee, seorang bekas wartawan Malaysiakini.
Sebenarnya berita kemasukan Ong Kian Ming boleh dikhabarkan secara lebih kritis namun apa yang disiarkan The Star adalah sekadar puji-pujian yang baik sahaja dimuatkan dalam The Rocket.
Regina Lee, wartawan Star kini (staf Malaysiakini terdahulunya) bersama Teh Eng Hock (bekas pengerusi NUJ cawangan The Star yang mentweet “Oi Big Mama”) beserta beberapa orang lain pengarang dan pemberita akhbar itu adalah rakan akrab Hannah Yeoh yang menggosip tentang politikus MCA di Twitter — baca sini.
DAP “crafting social media strategies”
The Star jarang sekali menyediakan ruang bagi orang politik bukan-Kristian/bukan-Anglophile.

Tidak seperti MCA yang merelakan jentera medianya membuat hal, Pemuda Umno enggan melayan kerenah ahli-ahlinya yang tersimpang (do not toe the party line). Seorang pengendali laman Facebook penyokong Pemuda Umno telah dipecat kerana memuatkan amaran tentang ancaman Kristianisasi.
Bersangkut hal akhbar miliknya, MCA tutup sebelah mata.
Tepuk dada tanya selera.
“Ong in particular is famed for his political analysis published in Malaysiakini, apart from his day job as a lecturer at UCSI University.”
Famed for his expression of perpetual paranoia. Always saying this country is going in the “wrong” direction.
sorry, it should be intoxicated paranoia.
Tambah ‘perpetually intoxicated paranioa’ pun bagus. Cuma panjang sangat.. profound giler maknanya..
“diperkudakan” ?
Mereka tidak diperkudakan pun, mereka diperkosa. tengok tu, lepas diperkosa, diam saja. tengok kat Mansor, tak berani bersuara pun bila Raja Lawak Batu Pahat tu duduk kat sebelah dia masa sidang akbar.
mansor tak rasa apa2 sebab dah pun disahkan ‘ass hole of the month’ oleh Stop The Lies blog. saya cadangkan dia jadi ass hole of the year, sapa sokong angkat tangan ekekeke….
Helen,
What’s funny is, what they’re accusing others do is likely to be the things they always did.
They just don’t want the others to do it, that’s why some other politician wants to make anti hopping laws but gave excuses when told to start from their own Pakatan side first.
Anon,
Correction. “…they just dont want…”. Are you implying BN superimposed the picture?
Nothing sinister about the picture. “A picture is worth a thousand word” so goes the saying. The picture just shows thousands greeting Najib while attending his annual Raya open house gathering.
They criticized as they are not able to accept reality that Najib is popular especially among malay voters. There is a significant shift to UMNO and BN from Malay voters. And these people traditionally prefer PAS.
Among Chinese voters, they still prefer DAP as it is “lording” in PR. But the hostile reactions towards BN “soften”. they may realize that outright rejection of BN (or specifically MCA) will result in Chinese votes themselves out of Federal Govt. Just like in sarawak.
THE PROBLEM with this “kerajaan Persekutuan” is that sometimes it simply “malas’ to answer back. Like the case of a moronic statement here questioning the validity of the picture on PM’s official Raya Open House.

Shamshul,
It is suspicious for the photo to be captioned “Only for usage within pmo.gov.my domain”.
Also examine it carefully.
Bernama will have to answer. Await the developments.
Helen
Lurve it when Pakatoons quote the hadith. Especially when they already sound like they’ve had a few pints of special brew beforehand…
seriously.. you know Malaysia is screwed when their politicians delve & scrutinise into photographs of a raya open house as if the world will crumble by it. Rama, seriously? Don’t you have REAL issue to talk/write about?
Photographs? OMG..for real??? i gave benefits of the doubt when they say Pakatan have idiotic politicians.. but they’re all out to prove it wrong! Kalau ini macam.. Malaysia for sure hancur one!
It does look Photoshopped, I must say. Let’s see if Bernama and Star will issue any statement.
And it is an issue of journalism ethics if the photo was a deliberate misrepresentation.
To me, it’s a sign of insecurity especially when PR has the support of the general rakyat as they claimed. When i saw this kind of pic, all i can think of ‘my oh my, malaysians love free food’. Yes, i admit.. I am a bit naive in that section. Funny how people obsessed with power can see it differently.
They were not rushing for food. Note that they’re all standing and holding cameras plus waving the national flag.
Najib is not in the (photo) frame. He led the flag waving and sing-a-long session.
The crowd is taking his photo. So logically, he’s facing them (probably standing on a stage) and not captured in the photo from the angle that the Bernama cameraman is shooting.
Aiyaaa! Malaysian politicians arguing and debating on picture! No other better thing do kah?
You voters out there! Do you want ADUNs/MPs who think, plan, strategise and work hard for the well-being of the people and the country or an idiotic nincoompoop!
Only idiots will vote for another idiot!
Ramakrishnan is not an Adun or MP and thus does not owe his position to the voters. As an appointed senator, he is beholden only to his party DAP.
He’s been highly vocal in attacking the BN and the government. So we can surmise that his ‘work’ is to attack all the time — latest yesterday (see here) where he says Janji Ditepati insults Indians.
Before that, he called on PAS to sack Ustaz Nasha for being an Umno Trojan horse.
But be that as it may, other people looking at the photo may similarly come to the same conclusion that he has made. Therefore Bernama still has to answer.
“Ramakrishnan is not an Adun or MP and thus does not owe his position to the voters. As an appointed senator, he is beholden only to his party DAP. ”
He’s trying to save his skin. I mean, look, who wants to be the next Tunku Aziz ? Someone in the party must have told him that if he wants to keep his job, he had better start “barking”, the louder the better.
Dear Helen,
“Ramakrishnan is not an Adun or MP and thus does not owe his position to the voters. As an appointed senator, he is beholden only to his party DAP…” You are right, Helen…
But now, he is showing and telling his boss that he is the right and winnable candidate for GE13!
:)
“everybody loves a winner” and for the non-Malays, DAP is the party on top now (as compared to rats leaving the sinking ship MCA)
it makes you wonder how come the DAPsters can think that all the politicians who join BN are in it for the money, whereas all those who join DAP post 2008 (Zairil, Sak, Aspan, and most recently Ong Kian Ming) are “angels”, incorruptible and who join DAP semata-mata demi berkhidmat untuk rakyat.
laaa…foto orang pi beraya pun jadi kes? apa barang ni? politik sampai ke ceroh!!!
The fact of the occasion (i.e. Raya open house) should not be a point of contention. It can be any event or any occasion, yet the principle of the transgression against journalism ethics remains the same.
It’s the fact that a national news agency is alleged to doctored a photo which is of concern. And whether The Star was aware and colluded (i.e. still chose to publish despite being cognizant or being negligent in not spotting the alleged falsification as it’s an important photo splashed on the front page)
Example: If it concerns a reporter’s breach, what can be an issue is plagiarism or libel or factual inaccuracy.
If it concerns a photo editor, one example I can think of is, cropping. Let’s say there’s a dead suspect/victim lying in a pool of blood. In his hand is a gun. The editor crops out the gun from the photo frame and thus deprives the picture of an important detail and distorts the context. This is an issue.
If the Bernama photo was tampered with, it is a journalism issue. We mustn’t shoot the messenger just because he’s a DAP senator and politically motivated.
Please excuse me for replying in English. Tired, having a headache and it’d be more of a strain for me to find the terminology in BM.
