Gelaran ‘Lord Muruguan’ tapi Kristian

Uskup Paul Tan pun ikut selar Ridhuan Tee, ruj. ‘Bishop warns against rising hate speech‘ (Malaysiakini, 21 Feb 2013)

Pemerhatian Uskup Paul Tan tentang perangai sesetengah pelampau agama, umpamanya Ridhuan Tee, adalah seperti berikut:.

  • “growing incidence of hate and incitement speech in this pre-election season” (menjelang musim pilihanraya, hasutan bagi menimbulkan rasa benci semakin menjadi-jadi)
    .
  • “frenzied lurches against the boundaries of civic discourse” (percakapan liar yang melanggar tatasusila)

“Religion and race bashing”

.
“While the evidence of the recent past suggests that the general public is not easily prey to the incitements of rumour mongers and those who engage in religion and race bashing, we have to guard against those purveyors of hatred that lie in wait for the opportunity to discharge their toxins,” kata Uskup Paul Tan.
.

.
Bishop Paul Tan praised politicians and other participants in the ongoing debate over national issues who keep within the bounds of rational and civic discourse. He noted that the public would have been enlightened by the example set in Penang over the period of the Thaipusam celebrations recently when political, religious leaders and lay leaders engaged in rounds of diplomacy and community bridge-building.”

Politics of Love

“… we are all brothers and sisters, we take care of each other; every Malaysian is part of one big family!”

Cara Guan Eng bercakap sebiji macam Hannah Yeoh.

The Eagles Leadership Conference is strategically placed to equip leaders to bring the transforming power of the Gospel to the nations of Asia and beyond. This transnational conference of Christian leaders is an opportunity to expand your horizons and build partnerships for a bigger future.”

Nampaknya orang Kristian DAP seperti Guan Eng dan Ong Kian Ming bergesel bahu dengan ramai orang Kristian Malaysia – nama-nama ditandakan merah, screenshot bawah) – yang berpangkat tinggi, berpengaruh serta kaya-raya.

  1. Is it Thursday already? Looks like Paul Tan is discharging his weekly dose of toxins today after his last detox session on Valentine’s Day.

    1. FFC,

I think our bishop really needs to learn a lesson. The more he talks rubbish the more annoying it gets for moderates and people like me feel like slapping silly this bishop of ours. But I realise no matter what at the end of the day God will judge us by our actions and our deeds and though it is not my place to judge all I can say that when the day comes for him to meet God boy would he be surprised if he sees Satan waiting for him instead of the Pearly Gates and he can join the rest of them as his friends would be there too. Friends like Anwar, Kit Siang. Guan Eng and the gang.

      1. He’s just setting an example for the flock to follow this Lenten season. And who’s he kidding when preaching about God’s love, family love etc when his words are full of hate & drips with bile?

In a time of uncertainty in the church globally with the Pope’s resignation, child abuse cover-ups & even the Magdalene laundry apology, shepherds of the church should consolidate the flock. Instead, he’s sowing the seeds of division.

I’ve felt angry, unhappy, indignant & a plethora of other feelings towards the church in my 3 decades on earth. Feeling sad about the state of church affairs is an alien feeling to me.

I sincerely think the time has come for the lay parishioners stand up & speak out. The incident in Assumption Church could be the first step. The louder the rumble, the bigger the reverberations. Eventually, the clergy cannot ignore a groundswell that has had enough of a political market place disguised as God’s sanctuary.

      2. Btw TRR, I don’t consider Paul Tan my bishop. I consider him an enemy of the church & the state. As I commented earlier in another blog post, I hate my enemies period

      3. on the other hand, the Dapsters will get even more hysterical the more he talks about politics. these Dapsters need a daily dose of PR Kool Aid to get themselves going, judging by their comments on social media sites.

  2. Not trying to be picky but… if YAB is used, the title of Chief Minister should be place before stating his position in DAP.

  3. This Uskop is actually “intoxicated by the exhuberance of his own verbosity”. Isn’t he doing what he accuses others of ? Maybe he should look at himself in the mirror every day and ask who is the worst purveyor of religious and racist toxins.

  4. A bit dodgy this particular post. No harm in chasing the religious vote. Politicians are hypocritical by nature and religious rhetoric (whatever the faith) disingenuous whenever uttered by those who seek public office.

The particular example of Godhead’s LGE bigger picture is a good example of the DAP’s post 08′ hubris and DAP Indian amenability but obviously the politics of love is merely a different expression of Najib’s politics of “nambikei”.

As for the good Bishop, well maybe one day all his pontifications would result in the fisherman’s ring gracing his finger in that hate speech free oasis, of his brethren.

  5. Politics of love? More like pettiness tahap max.

Just look at our beloved CM’s 2013 budget speech, just the part on transportation. My comment in [].

    F. MEMANTAPKAN PENGURUSAN LALU LINTAS

[Not in time for you to take credit issit? Who owns Rapid Penang?]

[Do the maths here on how much the Penang state is contributing to public transport via Rapid Penang. What is the share of the total cost? Think!]

[sebulan? setahun?]

    29. Kerajaan Negeri telah MENAWARKAN RM10 juta setahun [less than RM1 million a month] kepada Rapid Penang untuk menjalankan perkhidmatan bas PERCUMA pada waktu puncak, Isnin – Jumaat untuk mengatasi kesesakan trafik. Akan tetapi Kerajaan Negeri masih belum mendapat sebarang jawapan positif selepas 18 bulan. [daripada SPNB lah tu. Kenapa? What is the reason, cost sharing factors? RM1 juta sebulan cukup untuk Rapid Penang operate free? Rapid Penang has over 500 buses if I remember correctly.]

[belum siap lah]

Conclusion: I am happy to report to the Penang people that I, the CM of Penang, has done our part to help Rapid Penang serve our people better by giving them a few million a year. I know the blueprint isn’t finished but hey i gave you guys 81km cycling lanes and some place to lock your bicycles. Pedal hard my dear Penangnites! You can eat cake too you know!

Btw, did anyone realize the budget deficits CAT-Penang DAP is running? PR cakap macam terror financing tapi rupa-rupanya tiap-tiap tahun defisit meningkat. Maybe that’s what the churches are praising Penang for, for a skyrocketing operating budget – tabur duit kiri kanan-lah! RM46.4 million for religious purposes untuk Jabatan mana?

    Najib bagi cash = bribery
LGE bagi cash = for the rakyat

    PR boleh!

      1. No. The buses are for the cats and other animals to ride to the nearest BR1M collection centers

      2. Don’t know. I know what the arguments that have been bandied about town about hyper-centralization and the comparative budgets (federal-state) by Zairil and Tricia.

Anyone who does a simple budget comparison between Penang, Selangor, Kedah and Kelantan with the Federal budget will realize the deliberate half-truths being bandied about.

For all the talk about prudence etc., Penang’s 2013 RM1.13 billion budget’s deficit is RM262.4 million, a whopping 23%. And DAP goes around town screaming at the reduced 4% federal (RM251.6 billion) budget deficit? The strategy to record a surplus annually doesn’t mask the fact that Penang’s state budget increased by over 50% from 2012 to 2013. Last chance to buy votes before the GE? Imagine if the federal budget balloons by that figure? PR would have gone bonkers.

The idea here is to spend first and by the end of the year, the Pakatan Penang will try to ensure that the budget is not totally spent to reflect a surplus, thus claiming efficiency. That is why they will always present a budget with deficit, but scrooge on the spending so that come year end, there will be surplus money for the coffers, now amounting to almost RM700 million, which is used for drawdowns if necessary. Nothing wrong with giving yourself some room to manuever by asking for more than what you need (deficit budget), push the collections and income stream, and then control/defer the spending so that the balance will never be in the red. The real difference maker is in management attitude change, and I believe there are good people in the civil service who wants to stop waste, end corruption and be efficient at their jobs. These are the enablers which DAP has embraced, and this will be the reason why BN needs to step up its game. Recognition must be given when good work is done, but dishonest comparison and criticism, stealing credit and blaming others when shit hits the fan, that’s wrong.

The real concern, for both Penang and the federal government, is the growing gap between their OPERATING and DEVELOPMENT expenditure. BN and PR are essentially throwing money to keep themselves popular, with all kinds of handout programs. We shall see how long this strategy can last.

        1. re: “Pakatan Penang will try to ensure that the budget is not totally spent to reflect a surplus, thus claiming efficiency. That is why they will always present a budget with deficit, but scrooge on the spending …”

Heard same complaints about Pakatan S’gor stinging on the spending (my personal complaint: big yellow plastic bags of leaves left lying by roadside for weeks and garbage still uncollected, grr!basic service like this also they cannot do properly, what Bersih, cheh) for the purpose of prettifying the state balance sheet.

          1. or maybe they are saving those spending to prepare for the big One, the election that will make or break either side. after all, as the state government, they have the state machinery at their disposal.

I am tempted to reply to Bishop Paul Tan’s assertions on various tidbits on the

Allah issue. having ‘jolok the sarang tebuan.’,

he merrily goes around , like a great guy

telling other religous people on how to behave.

    ——————
    .

    .

    .

    Dear Bishop Paul ,

The conclusion arrived at by Bishop P Tan

on comments made muslims that ‘Allah

is not the god of Christians

and others’ is a ‘crooked’ thinking,

designed to belittle muslim philosophy. It

would fall under crooked thinking in

the scheme of things as propounded in

‘Straight and Crooked Thinking’ by Thoureaux.

    ..

All the muslims are saying is: you cannot

say that your God Jesus is Allah. And your

God as described by the St John’s Version of

the bible as 3-in-1 thingy, the Father, the Holy

    Ghost and the Son.

    .

In Islam the definition of Allah, the One and Only

is clearly defined by Surah Al-Ikhlas.

    .

Of course , if you genuinely maintained that

your God is one, [without any additions, qualifications]

Your god is our god , Allah

    Allah is Great

    Allah is Great

    Allah is Great
    \

    Unitarians
    ———-

Would it not be simple and elegant if you could revert

    to the

original thoughts about Jesus [Peace be upon him],

as a prophet of Allah and accept Allah as God in

finality as proscribed in the surah Al ikhlas.

After all it would make sense and complies with the

rigors of mathematical thinking if you accept the

original thought , as millions of the Unitarian

    Christians all over the world.

You have come so far to declare that there is one god

and we would rejoice that we can call Allah as our God

Catholicism -the cloak and dagger approach

    to politics/religion

    ——————————————–

But I suspect under all your claims of 1 god

you would still invariably hide the 3-in-1 thingies

leaving no finality in the One-ness of Allah!

i have written everywhere -ktemoc and in the stubborn

editorship [and censorship-prone] Nutgraph about what

Allah means. I certainly believe there are now many

    enlightened

christians after this ‘Allah for the Bible’episode.

If by the off-chance that your heart is opened

to acceptance of the finality concept-there is

no god other than Allah , we are brothers in

    accepting Allah as our god.

The muslim shuhada -declaration of faith, as

opposed to holy communion is declaring

    a finality statement-

..’there is no other god but [one and only ] Allah…’

    1. The Christians just want to use the generic term of Allah to refer to their God. They don’t mean the Allah as ‘the one and only’ as understood by the Muslims. Your Allah is your Muslim God. The Christian’s Allah is their Christian God. Just like the word computer, laptop, PC and notebook. We have HP, Dell, Compaq, Acer etc.

      1. you should know that the word Allah is not generic. it means the “one and only God”. to say that there is a generic term of Allah is to engage in a exercise of doublespeak.

      2. The Christians don’t know the name of their God? That’s news to me. What did the Bible say?

  7. PPP,

Allah is a generic term to denote God. The word Allah predates Islam. People in the Arab world used the word to denote their respective God before Islam came into existence. Muslims in the Arab do not claim exclusive ownership of the word Allah.

    1. Dear bar,

The CHRISTIANS want to use allah to refer to their God or SOME CHRISTIANS want to use allah to refer to their God?

Be clear and be specific. I concur with you that nobody can claim exclusive ownership of a word and deny it to others, but laws have been passed in this country that specifically states that Allah cannot be used unless it refers to the Islamic god.

Now, I agree with you that it is a bad law, but it is nevertheless a law that the respective state ADUNs HAVE passed. Now, the hiccup is in its enforceability, not the FACT that Allah and many other words (including Nabi, Rasul and Wahyu) have been gazetted for exclusive reference to Islam.

Allah, specifically, is the name of the Islamic god REGARDLESS of the language used by all Muslims. Allah is also not just an Arabic language translation of god, it is the very term used in the first holy Quran.

The history of the Church’s behaviour and the motivation to translate the names of Elohim into local languages is clear. Let’s not delude ourselves. They have been at this game for thousands of years. Yahweh and Elohim appeared in the Bible, so why aren’t they content with using the original names so as to avoid confusion? When in doubt, go back to the good book and ask yourself, if the Bible uses a name for your god, shouldn’t you stick to it? If you believe it doesn’t matter what you call your god, then why on earth do you want to possess the name of another religion you know is using the name?

      Pray tell.

    2. In Malaysia, we have several laws to maintain harmony among the people. The laws are to prevent any racial or religious conflict that may arise. It is a preventive law. This is the reason why the people can live in harmony through out the years even though we are multiracial and multireligoun. One small incident of abusive to the word of Allah can create serious implication. Malaysia is not Arab.

    1. Your comment is the most striking point that I’ve come across in all the debate on kalimah Allah. Please permit me to reproduce in my posting nanti.
