‘Controversial film Tanda Putera finally coming to local cinemas’ (The Star, 2 June 2013)
‘Black 505 rally to hit KL on June 15‘ (Malaysiakini, 2 June 2013)
winner (runner-up) of Star prize
all-expenses paid trip to London … where else
Ong Kar Jin won an award from The Star for talking about how Malaysians are indoctrinated to become racists. (Methinks he must have modelled for the cartoon below — it looks like him.)
Among his articles:
- ‘Another May 13 in the offing?’
- ‘The real reason for the crackdown’
- ‘Moving past the issue of Race‘
- “By being explicitly race-based parties, they [Umno, MCA & MIC] state they are their race first and Malaysian second.”
- “The result has been a vicious cycle of spiralling communalism, of fear mongering and hate-inciting.”
Ong Kar Jin the StarChild blames race-based parties such as Umno, MCA and MIC for scare-mongering and inciting hate.
He declares that the Pakatan format represents a “shift away from racialism” and paving the way for racial integration.
He wrote the above before Malaysia went to the polls. He had hoped that
“Come this General Election 2013, Malaysians have a chance to change the political narrative from one of race to one of policy. To move beyond an archaic, apartheid-like system that emphasises distinctions instead of commonalities.”
Remember that the standard ‘Colour blind’ line taken by Ong Kar Jin and his ilk is rewarded by The Star with an all-paid trip to London (or positive publicity and promotion and 10 tweets in a single day).
If you will read any one of Ong Kar Jin’s 3 articles on May 13 that I’ve linked above, you will be able to get a better idea of the mind game that The Star is playing.
