Mat Despatch

The photograph below is of the MCA annual general assembly held in Oct 2012, coincidentally over the same weekend that The J-Star frontpaged Alvivi and featured 17 articles on the sex blogger couple over three packed days.

And the MCA-owned paper quite forgot to report about their owner’s AGM (featured very few and insignificant, i.e. not prominently placed reports).

Deliver what, ah?

“MCA Can Deliver” was the tagline adopted by the convention.

Look at all the empty chairs.

What does MCA mean by claiming they can deliver when they cannot even get their own party members to attend the most important meeting, which was the last one to be held before the GE13?

MCAassembly

MCA the cash bag carrier

A better way to interpret MCA “delivering” is the phrase “your cheque is in the mail”.

Like FedEx, MCA delivers. Oodles of money — see their election campaign photos below.

But the Chinese voters still gave the MCA a slap in the face, and spitting on BN … after taking the MCA’s money.

MCAcheques

Thanks to them, MCA bites the dust. Yet despite dealing MCA a knock-out blow in the last general election, they still run to the MCA to fight for places for their children in public university.

Earth calling Planet Dapster: You voted DAP.

You chose DAP to be the sole representative of the Chinese community. You should ask who else but the DAP to provide the solutions to your varsity intake grouses.

Unisel might offer some seats.

Poster below: Utar lecturer Chong Zhemin represents DAP in the ‘PR vs BN’ debate while Shen Yee Aun represents MCA.

MCA Can Deliver

Yes it can.

In Utar, the MCA-established university, and its feeder Ktar colleges, the lecturers are the voices for DAP.

DAP Serdang MP Ong Kian Ming was very happy with his reception in Kampar where the Utar campus is located — see @imokman tweet screenshot below.

MCA can deliver

Yes it can.

MCA, through its J-Star Media Group, can deliver the urban and youth votes to the opposition. Or at least it will surely try its darndest, most evangelista-est to deliver.

Can BN still trust the MCA and their Scissorati meh?

  1. Hi Helen,

I have read many of your writing and share it to my very small social network quite sometime. I believe you have a big crowd of readers waiting for your feed!

My question is, do you think you get your message across or not?

Can you know that the point is taken and noted? It’s just that are just no action taken because it is still not the right time.

Or they just don’t bloody care!

    Entahla!

    Saya pulak jadi takut!

    1. Methinks the Gunting dalam Lipatan caution is noted by BN but just that no action is taken yet because it’s still not the right time, and furthermore the Umno PAU is looming.

Methinks also the MCA has noted as well but they just don’t bloody care as evidenced by the recent appointment of WCW as CEO.

Methinks MCA has been infected by the 505 (wu yue wu, huan zheng fu / change government on May 5) virus that makes them delirious thinking they are immune. Like why in the world would a minority that is a quarter of the population and who are not in the police/army/reserves – meaning no guns – boleh begitu berani menjolok sarang tebuan. Tak masuk akal, kan?

Similarly the MCA’s tak masuk akal behaviour thinking it is kebal and Umno is stupid.

      1. Helen,

I doubt Najib even realise your blog’s existence. No offense. But Najib( with due respect to him) appears to lose touch with the real situation on the ground.

I do not know who advises Najib. he seems to be making wrong decision one after another

      1. FedEx’s tagline is “We Live To Deliver”.

MCA are doing the same so please lay off with the criticism. After all, most of their resources had delivered seats to DAP in the last GE no?

        1. Profound observation and bears internalizing.

So MCA is determined to live on in order to continue delivering the urban and youth voter base (via The J-Star, Utar, Ktar, Newspaper in Education supplements used as teaching aid in schools) to the DAP 3.0.

          1. Good now, DAP has OKM to woo the young Malays, and Regina Lee too woo the Minister. Perfect Combo.

            1. OKM will then claim that dia akan masuk Islam dan the Malays in PAS will believe him 100% and even will appoint him as PAS spiritual leader. The next step he will do is to perform Hajji in Mekah. Luaran Islam tapi hati Kristian!

              1. Re. “The next step he will do is to perform Hajji in Mekah. Luaran Islam tapi hati Kristian!”

Pernah dengar cerita tak orang pergi Mekah tapi tak nampak Kaabah, atau visa selalu kena reject?

  4. “I think the hardest thing for me during the fasting month is to pray for politicians on the other side”

Can a non Muslim pray the Muslim prayer during the holy Muslim fasting month ?

“Sempena hari raya tahun ni, lebih elok kita beli baju kalis peluru daripada baju kebaya.”

Again. Why does a Christian comment on Islamic matters?

    1. Its fashionable!

AWAM head honco and the rests had did and did it well since the authorities had muka tebal dan kesabaran yang tinggi!

Tapi seriously tak sangka OKM the Doctor was contemplating of buying a kebaya for the raya?!

      Kebaya Merah ke Doktor?

    2. Re: “I think the hardest thing for me during the fasting month is to pray for politicians on the other side”

And I thought Christians are supposed to pray for their enemies all the time. Love the enemies no? So why is it harder to do during Ramadhan? Or is it because he has never prayed for the enemy before? Bad Christian practice that.

Re: “Sempena hari raya tahun ni, lebih elok kita beli baju kalis peluru daripada baju kebaya.”

No wonder lah difficult to pray for the other side. He’s preoccupied with sniping them with snide remarks.

Re: “TPM hadir pelantikan Presiden Iran ” harap lawatan ini tidak akan menjejaskan quota Hajj negara kita :)”

Dia ada akaun Tabung Haji kot. Or maybe aim take over Azeez’s chair after GE14? Tak pun dah abis idea nak buat daily communion of hentam-ing politicians from the other side.

Re: Why does a Christian comment on Islamic matters?

That particular Christian wanna save others from the fires of hell mah. He’s more Christian than Christians at large. He’s even more Muslim than most Muslims. Heck, he’ll even be more Scientologist than Tom Cruise or John Travolta if that will win him some brownie points from the rakyat.

With the cinema currently showing The Wolverine with the Viper being one of the mutant antagonists, it’s worth remembering that DAP & PR evangelical do gooders are living proof of humans (or are they mutants?) with chameleon like abilities.

      1. re: “Or maybe aim take over Azeez’s chair after GE14?”

        And why not?

The current chair’s nickname is “Azeez Gaza”. So aside from the #sahur, “Insya Allah”, buka puasa, beli buku suci Al Quran, OKM will need to quickly add the Palestinian cause to his repertoire.

        1. Mind you that Tabung Haji is the biggest and the most successful Haj/Islamic Investment Funds in the world.

            1. Having the Holy Quran with him since his London days and still oblivious as far as his Creator is concern is very telling indeed! Scientists had been made a believer but not a doctor?! This is all for show, surely he can’t be reading the Quran.

    3. [What has Iran got to do with our Hajj arrangements?]

KSA (Kingdom of Saudi Arabia) is hated by Iran. Iran is (almost) the centre of Syiah of the world (the real centre is Iraq). It is them who sponsor and spread Shiism worldwide. KSA is being accused by Iran of spreading Wahhabism. Ironically US intelligence and islamophobe also sing this tune.

KSA is regarded by many to be the the centre of Sunni world – because of Makkah and Madinah.

It is no secret that Syiah harbour the interest of taking over Makkah and Madinah.

Because of this, their diplomatic relationship is tense. It might really affect Malaysia’s Hajj quota.

      1. Hajj quota for Malaysia is already fixed by KSA, i.e. 0.1% of Malaysia’s total population. It’s just that Malaysia govt has always asked for “additional quota” from KSA govt due to the long waiting list (heard it’s reaching 1 million ppl in queue now).

KSA unpredictable and supersensitive govt can refuse to the additional quota requested by Malaysia govt. There was one time when KSA govt pulled back the additional quota already given to Msia, just because one editor of Msian mains stream media wrote a not-so-rosy picture of the KSA govt in its editorial.

        1. Probably the 1m queue is worrying him? Money money money.. with an average package today of RM20k who wouldn’t take interest?

He shows interest in the teachings (and practices) of Islam, ini satu petanda baik.. teruskan Doktor, belajar sikit sikit mudah2an akan terbuka hati satu hari nanti untuk menjadi saudara baru kita.

ISLAM IS A BEAUTIFUL RELIGION, tak kenal maka tak cinta..

          1. Kalau ikhlas, insyaAllah terbuka. Tapi rasanya tweet2 Islamik OKM semua berniat politik. Sekejap perjuangkan nama Allah untuk digunakan dalam injil, tapi bila Ramadhan, macam nak masuk Islam pula caranya. Quit DAP and join PAS if you are sincere.

  5. dear helen,

i think the chinese still need mca in terms of airing grouses, getting donations/monetary benefit and being a medium with the government, albeit no seat in the cabinet.

at the same time they need dapsters to play rough and push their kehendak to the max. But they should heed the warning ‘anjing yang tersepit dan terdesak akan menggigit akibat rasa terancam’.

it’s high time the chinese community ponder whether to go on the ol moderate ways where everybody win or the new aggresive way that could result in ‘menang jadi arang, kalah jadi abu’.

  6. This is an OKM gem.
Ong Kian Ming ‏@imokman 4h @khalidkarim @maszlee I better reserve comment for fear of saying the wrong thing which may b offensive, nanti blogger UMNO laporkan kpd SB

    1. He’s naive to think that SB had not been following his tweets or FB or his other social media apparatus.

  7. [Quote: You chose DAP to be the sole representative of the Chinese community. You should ask who else but the DAP to provide the solutions to your varsity intake grouses.]

MCA can turn these potential supporters away if they want to close shop. These are good PR news for MCA. It shows to the Chinese community their commitment to serve and honestly, its about time MCA pay their dues after years of complacency. MCA was on the winning side that held on to power since independence. (still do)

Despite all the rhetorics and disdain for DAP shown here, one has to credit their perseverance through the lean years when Chinese support was few and members had to fork out their own money to support the party. Even LGE can claim he paid his dues with prison time.

On the other hand, MCA is known as the Chinese buinessman party. Want to do business? Join MCA. The party where fat cat bureaucrat resides. It will take time for them to clear away their sins of yester years.

    1. re: “These are good PR news for MCA.” (i.e. the impasse on the intake appeals)

Let’s see how the problem is sorted out this year with Wee Ka Siong going head-to-head against his former Ministry.

    2. Re. MCA can turn these potential supporters away if they want to close shop. These are good PR news for MCA.

I totally agree with you, but I don’t the Chinese will buy that anymore. Yes they will take it but comes the next GE they will still vote DAP.

Re. These are good PR news for MCA.

Ada media empire pun “tak dapet nak nak nolong” dari segi PR, macam mana tu.

Re. its about time MCA pay their dues after years of complacency.

From now on they should work very hard for the Malays, since all the seats that they won are Malay majority constituency, and even long before that.

Re. On the other hand, MCA is known as the Chinese businessman party. Want to do business? Join MCA

To be fair all party and politicians are MONEY-BUSINESS-CENTRIC. Tak kira la party apa pun.

        1. LOL

[Quote: From now on they should work very hard for the Malays, since all the seats that they won are Malay majority constituency, and even long before]

That is why I say MCA need to pay their dues and get off their butt to win back the Chinese. They were never tested in the past.

[Quote: To be fair all party and politicians are MONEY-BUSINESS-CENTRIC. Tak kira la party apa pun.]

While I agree with you, the downside to this kind of party is its inability to attract dynamic new blood to serve the public. They are first and foremost supposed to serve and not live out its days as some kind of persatuan cina kaya and yes-men.

Ending on a positive note, thankfully things are looking up for them. I did spot many fresh new faces in GE 13. ;)

  8. For MCA you need to pull, shove, punch, slap and kick them. Then they will wake up. It in their history. So pack up your punch and give everything to them. :)

    :) sarah

  9. “MCA deputy president Liow Tiong Lai notes the strengths in the CCP structure, but stresses the party was not looking at Communism.”

Well I wonder how something like this would go down with the right wing Malay section of UMNO and how it will be used by the DAP. I have some thought on this, will add to this later.

    1. Just to add to this.

The idea that the Chinese who didn’t vote for the MCA should not go to them for help is an idea which is mendacious and anathema to the concept of democracy.

The idea that the responsibility and obligations the MCA has towards its demographic stops when it is loses supports, is an intellectually bankrupt idea and – I will say it – a moral falling.

Does this mean that the Malays who didn’t vote for UMNO should be left out in the cold ? Does this mean that PR should only look after the interest of those who voted for them ?

If the idea is that the MCA should only care abut the community if they are voted in then they really are dispatch clerks…[.actually to steal a phrase from Apocalypse Now] what the MCA is, is an “errand boy, sent by grocery clerks, to collect a bill”.

Years ago I remember having a conversation with Dr. Jeyakumar after one of his losses, about how he carries on when it is obvious that he is not getting any support.

He told me that losing does not mean he stops giving help to people, if anything it means redoubling his efforts to reach out to people in the hopes that the cash thrown their way, will eventually lose its hold, when they see that real change can’t be bought.

Really, it just demonstrates how some of us are so politically immature that an issue like this is even discussed. In any functional democracy the losing political party plots its way back to the mainstream and ideas of retribution are discarded in favour of attempting to claim the middle ground – most times – or reaching out to its base that abandoned it.

      1. re: “the losing political party plots its way back to the mainstream”

Can you suggest some ways in which MCA can do the above?

re: “attempting to claim the middle ground – most times – or reaching out to its base that abandoned it”

        Ditto.

        1. Re :”Can you suggest some ways in which MCA can do the above?”

Persevere. I think HH had it right when he said that should learn for the time spent in the cold. Malaysians are pragmatic esp the Chinese community. The DAP think they have the community’s vote locked down forever. This is a mistake.

Having said that, even though I am all for free speech and the like, they SHOULD BURN DOWN THE STAR and ensure that a propaganda organs that carries out the MCA’s agenda is in place.

Why they don’t do this is beyond me and points to the pecuniary benefits that trumps whatever political agenda they have.

      2. Conrad

I am glad you singled out Dr Jeyakumar. He is from my hometown and one of the few politicians that deserve my respect. I am glad it was him who managed to break the Samy stronghold people kept saying is not penetrable. (credit goes to Hindraf too)

Talking about the ‘people’ factor, why would one want to run for public office, if not to serve? I guess traits like integrity and ethnics no longer meant something.

        1. Re :”Talking about the ‘people’ factor, why would one want to run for public office, if not to serve? ”

I was talking to a professional politician the other day, idealism is a disadvantage when you need to win, he said. When I asked him why he “needs” to win, he got a bit flustered…..

          1. UMNO is bad, DAP is good.
UMNO is bad, Hindraf was good.
MIC was bullied, UMNO is bad.
MCA was bullied, UMNO is bad.
Gerakan was bullied, UMNO is bad.

Anwar got intimate, UMNO is bad.
Mustapha gets to fingered, UMNO is bad.

Geez, not hard to understand Malaysian politics is it?!

Not addressing NameWee, UMNO is bad
Not giving money to vernacular schools, UMNO is bad
Giving money, UMNO is just as bad, don’t vote Ghani

Apa lagi mahu? Mahu UMNO tahu yang apa saja mereka buat, atau tidak buat, mereka sememangnya, sejak azali, B-A-D!

              BAD! BAD! BAD!

Ah JIb, did you get this or not? Shall we stop the wet dream already?
