Kiraan purata (mean)
Andaikata,
Pendapatan peribadi bulanan:
- Tuan Sazali seorang timbalan ketua jabatan kerajaan — RM7,500 (gaji pokok tanpa dikirakan pelbagai elaun, dsb)
- Puan Zaiton seorang jurutera — RM5,000
- Encik Nedim seorang pegawai khas kerajaan — RM4,000
- Cik Hashimah seorang guru — RM3,250
- Cik Ani seorang kerani — RM1,750
Pendapatan bulanan purata (mean income) bagi individu kumpulan Alpha di atas ialah RM7,500 + RM5,000 + RM4,000 + RM3,250 + RM1,750 ÷ 5 = RM4,300
Pendapatan peribadi bulanan:
- Dr Prakash seorang doktor klinik — RM10,000
- Puan Sheila seorang peguam — RM8,500
- Krishnan seorang drebar — RM1,700
- Arumugam seorang pengawal (security guard) — RM1,200
- Lakshmi seorang ‘pencuci’ (cleaner) — RM850
Pendapatan bulanan purata (mean income) bagi individu kumpulan Beta di atas ialah RM10,000 + RM8,500 + RM1,700 + RM1,200 + RM850 ÷ 5 = RM4,450
Jika kita bandingkan mengikut kaedah di atas, pendapatan bulanan purata kumpulan Beta mengatasi (RM4,450) pendapatan purata bulanan kumpulan Alpha (RM4,300).
Kiraan penengah (median)
(A) Pendapatan kumpulan Alpha ialah RM7,500, RM5,000, RM4,000, RM3,250, RM1,750
Pendapatan isi rumah purata (2012)
Tiga negeri paling kaya pendapatan bulanan purata
(sumber: Jabatan Perangkaan Malaysia)
- Kuala Lumpur: RM8,586
- Selangor: RM7,023
- Pulau Pinang: RM5,055
Pendapatan bulanan penengah
- Kuala Lumpur: RM5,847
- Selangor: RM5,353
- Pulau Pinang: RM4,039

Kerja makan gaji itu sahaja. Tapi bagaimana dengan penjaja di Gurney Drive? ???
Ibarat melontarkan batu tanpa sembunyi tangan, anda membiarkan pengunjung mendefinasikan sendiri arah tujuan batu balingan anda mengikut citarasa pengunjung.
Kumpulan mana pulak bagi pendapatan golongan dibawah. Nak dipanggil kumpulan sigma ke pulak?

Yes, the median is the important figure. A Chinese billionaire can drive the mean value higher for the chinese community, but the median value will give a better idea of their level of wealth . Another important stat is the Gini coefficient.
Despite all the poverty you see among the Indian community it is still amazing to me how the stats show Indians to be wealthier than Malays on average.
However, it comes as no surprise why Malays are poorer, especially when there are PAS officials who only own depreciating assets like cars and motorbikes and zero landed property, while DAP officials own or inherited multiple properties, and acquired others .
Usually the stats conflate Malay, orang asli and pribumi Sabah & S’wak into (one category) “Bumiputera”.
Sabahans are the poorest people in Malaysia. They would pull down the Bumiputera mean-median and give the impression that Malays per se are poorer than they actually are.
Tell us the population of the pribums and the east malaysian Malays. I bet they are quite small and don’t affect the stats significantly.
The other stat worth compiling ate the salaries according to political affiliation.
My theory is that PAS members are still poorer overall and economically depressed due to their conservative religious beliefs, that run counter to modern capitalist philosophy.
Citizens according to 2010 census
(non-citizen Residents excluded)
Malay: 14,322,100
Other Bumiputera: 3,354,700
Chinese: 6,430,400
Indian: 1,924,900
“Lain-lain”: 232,000
So there is one pribumi to every 5 Malays. The Sabah & S’wak native populations are not small. They do affect the poverty figures.
The orang asli population though is small, admittedly. They are generally considered ‘poor’ according to our ‘modern urban’ standards but then again wealth/needs/wants will be a different measurement by them.
That would be one pribumi for every 4.3 Malay.
Certainly not “small” or insignificant to the statistics.
Sorry Helen, Malays also pribumi la.
KJ dah tweet, “ukur baju di badan sendiri”.. you masih tak faham ke Helen?
Dalam dunia ni esp for the Asians, ada orang yang work for their living to put rice in their bowls tapi ada yang work not for their living but to put money in their bowls.
You kena la ukur macam tu.
Helen,
anda skrg sudah pandai mengintai akaun orang lain pulak ye?
hehehehe…..
silap tu tuan.. nedim anak si nazri, bukan adiknya ;)
Where does JStar find their reporters? The English used in the following article is terrible.
http://www.thestar.com.my/Business/Business-News/2013/08/21/Maybank-Q2-earnings-up.aspx
“Its net interest income and Islamic banking income increased by RM455.7mil or 8.1% from the previous corresponding period.”
“Its net interest income and Islamic banking income ” should be read as “The net interest income and Islamic banking income of company ”
“Alliance Research said the results were within its expectations and market consensus. ”
Not “its” but “their”
Oh my English
Don’t be so judgmental. This is due to the differences between British and American English. In American English, teams, companies and other collective nouns use the singular construction, while the Brits use plural.
Mulan if you want to be a grammar Nazi, please do so in Malay. That language is in dire need of ppl who care about grammar, spelling, punctuation and proper sentence construction.
The problem with the Malays is they are not meticulous about their everyday speech. This makes them ineffective in their communication and interaction with other races, which inevitably leads to poorer economic achievement in their group.
‘The problem with the Malays is they are not meticulous about their everyday speech.’
Bertolak ansur sebenarnya. Mengutamakan tetamu.
Another thing, the economic planning unit figures don’t consider the multiplier effect created by individuals working overseas. I reckon this greatly benefits Chinese community.
EPU has many programmes to benefit the Bumiputera.
Why are you “anti-Sino”, if I may ask?
The EPU stats also did not consider income derived from not so honorable means. Bribe money are mostly offered to people in a certain non-private sector. ;(
Says who?
My maid’s hubby (Chinese) spent 3yrs in UK, 2years in Aussie and is now working in Japan . He could not even send a single sen to help support the wife and kids here.
People in China and India also have the impression that their cousins who migrated to Malaya/Malaysia are millionaires. Whenever they get letters from there, the first para will be request for money. Not many Malaysian Indians or Malaysian Chinese like to visit their motherland for the reason they have very little Angpow to distribute when they visit them.
Siapa setuju angkat tangan! Jangan tipu saya.
And our silly people think that Australia and Canada like the land of plenty and they want to study, marry and migrate there.
I think your maid’s hubby has a gambling habit… if not, why bother working overseas?
