“MCA VP Gan Ping Sieu is of the view that terrible ill-will and bad faith have been generated over the ‘Allah’ issue.

For generations, native Christian Sabahan and Sarawakian have been using the word ‘Allah’ in their worship. The KDN’s ban of the word’s usage is tantamount to criminalise a long-accepted practice, even prior to the formation of Malaysia. The objective of such ban is highly questionable.

The KDN’s appeal, in itself, can be construed as ignoring national interest in racial and religious harmony and going against principle of national reconciliation and our PM’s avowed practice of moderate movement.

“Was it the objective to monopolise the usage of a PRE-ISLAM word reference of the Almighty to the detriment of our native Christians and Sikhs in this country?”.

The Arabs, the Indonesian Muslim etc have no qualms with the usage of ‘Allah’ by Christians. Why we insist otherwise?

The Court of Appeal, in its decision, appeared to accept and adopt wholesale the subjective view of Minister’s in relation to his apprehension of ‘security’ and ‘public order’ in this matter. “But the matter is essentially a political and constitutional issue, not a mere legal issue. BN, as an inclusive political coalition, must address the issue and to reach a rational consensus in the national interest. The Cabinet’s 10 points agreement must also be honoured.”

The Court of Appeal’s decision may leave a lot of confusion in its wake. It has been suggested that it only applies to the HERALD, it does not impose a ban of usage of the word on other material including Bahasa Malaysia/Indonesian versions of the Bible or the preachings and ceremonies in churches. However, how the over-zealous in our midst may seek to interpret, extend and enforce the judgment is a matter only time will tell. Gan hopes that the government will put its foot down and take an unequivocal stand that inclusiveness and the 10-point agreement is the way forward and national reconciliation is paramount.

Gan further states that this is indeed a very rare occasion that he agrees with the stand taken by some PAS leaders, who at least show that they are intellectually honest about the genuine concerns of other faiths.”

Be careful. A lot of the Sabah and Sarawakian component parties agree with the stance too. If they pull out, then Barisan Nasional’s “fixed deposit” is in jeopardy.

2. Serawak Christian Chinese is considered gone and done for UMNO/BN forever the focus is now on Christian Bumi in Serawak. There is one element that binds both Muslim Malay and Christian Bumi in Serawak i.e. our BUMIPUTERA STATUS. The 38,070 votes that he garnered is impressive considering that:
(1) he was a last-minute candidate
(2) he’s a Perak boy parachuted into Shah Alam
(3) he was facing an incumbent who had a high national profile and is currently the PAS deputy commissioner for S’gor
(4) he contested on an Umno ticket but was not someone who belonged to the party (something like PSM’s Dr Jeyakumar contesting on PKR ticket)
(5) he faced resistance from the Umno machinery because he deprived the local Umno man of the chance to stand for election

In GE13, Pakatan managed to obtain a two-thirds majority in the S’gor DUN. Ever since Pakatan took power in 2008, they have bombarded Selangorians woth hate-BN propaganda 24/7 and created all kinds of propaganda machinery which the other states do not have like Selangor Times (there is no Johor Times, comparatively), Selangorkini, Media Selangorku, Selangor TV, various “think tanks”, etc.

Therefore I wouldn’t scoff at Zul Noordin. It’s not surprising that he lost to Khalid Samad who belongs to the ruling party (which is always in a position of advantage, cf. Pakatan increased their majority in Penang as well) but what’s remarkable is that Zul received the support of 38,070 voters.
I believe that id he had been placed to contest in Temerloh (the constituency Saifuddin Abdullah failed to defend), Zul could have won.

I think he would lose anywhere, since the Malays of both sides don’t root for traitors. That is why Izam and Dr Hassan Ali stayed clear of this PRU. Which is a smart move by them.
The next round will be different. I have said this that DAP/Pakatan is stuck horizontally i.e. they can only improve their votes in the current constituencies but the task is harder in term of improving number of seats.
