And his troop.
The Selangor economic advisor who receives an RM1 salary.
The bigger the payout, the greater the greed
The Pakatan people are putting forth the argument that if the salary of their elected representatives are not high enough, then the Aduns will possibly be tempted into corruption.
Urm, anyone remember the huge Enron scandal?
In 2000 alone, Enron’s top five executives received payments of $282.7 million. During the five-year period between 1996 and 2000, Enron paid its top five more than $500 million — see ‘Pay Madness At Enron‘ (Forbes, 22 March 2002).
Well, so much for the Pakatoon’s theory.
Pakatan Aduns easily succumb to corruption, goes the logic
So how do the Pakatan bosses choose their candidates?
Aren’t the Pakatan candidates first vetted for Integrity lah, for Ethics lah, blah blah blah before they are put up to stand for election?
Or at least lah ensure they meet some basic professional competency standards.
See tweet below
When is enough enough?
Are they telling us that if Madam Speaker is paid a mere RM6,000 a month (old rate that the previous guy collected) for occupying the chair, she may be open to soliciting a side income?
Well, that’s the line the Pakatan fanboys are arguing.
However, if Hannah Yeoh is going to be paid, say, RM9,000 a month, then they imply that she is hence less likely to be looking for extras outside (we’re taking the “peanuts-monkeys” argument incrementally).
Now, if she is given RM12,000 a month, the risk of her becoming corrupt is lessened.
And further lessened if the salary were to be raised to RM15,000.
Give her RM20,000 month to do her Madam Speaking. Aaah, now you’re talking.
Add to that amount another RM20k separately for the Adun’s basic pay and allowances, and the likelihood of the name ‘Hannah Yeoh’ becoming synonymous with Corruption (Selangor IS the richest state after all) is kept somewhat at bay.
Oh, just make it a round RM50,000 jackpot, and the Pakatan exco member is seemingly secured.
Well now you all know how their CAT system operates. For a spirited defence of Anwar vis-a-vis the Selangor pay hike, please read the readers’ comments @ http://www.malaysiakini.com/news/248314
