Pro-Pakatan blogger Anil Netto, who is also Aliran treasurer, is running a poll on his blog with the question: “Should Khalid Ibrahim step down as Selangor MB?”
Thus far, 75 percent of the 100 respondents to Anil’s poll believe that the Selangor MB should step down whereas 16 percent feel he should not do so – see survey results screenshot below.
You can view Anil’s poll real-time HERE.
Below are the results of my poll thus far, asking the question: “Lebih baik MB Selangor… Khalid Ibrahim [atau] Wan Azizah?”
Out of the 694 respondents to my poll, 95 percent believe that Khalid is the better choice for Menteri Besar. Only 5 percent feel that Wan Azizah would be better to lead Selangor.

The results of the two polls conducted by Anil and me are such a marked contrast.
My readership is pro-BN while his is pro-Pakatan, and over here the commenters are mostly Malay while over at Anil’s, they are mostly Chinese.
I’m based in Selangor while Anil is based in Penang. Over there, they want him to step down. Over here, we want Khalid to stay on and we’re not favourable of Wan Azizah.

Similar pattern to earlier poll results
Earlier when the Selangor Speakers gave themselves the 300 percent salary hike, Anil had run another poll as well and I replicated his.
We asked our readers the following question:
“What do you think of the pay hikes for the Selangor state reps?”
Pakatan supporters fine with S’gor exco salary increase
The majority of Anil’s respondents in his November 2013 poll said they were “fine” with the massive pay rise awarded the Selangor legislators. His readers believe that “the Selangor reps deserve a large [salary] increase”.
My poll which asked the identical question elicited an opposite response. More than half my readers said that the increases which the Selangor Aduns gave themselves were “way too high”.
Speaker’s salary increment (tambahan gaji sebanyak) RM21,650
- RM16,400 ↑ (Speaker’s salary tripling from RM6,100 to RM22,500 per month)
- RM5,250↑ (Adun’s salary doubling from RM6,000 to RM11,250 per month)
Speaker’s take-home pay of at least RM44,560 ++ per month
- Speaker’s salary + Adun’s salary + Adun’s allowances excluding Speaker’s allowances (amount not revealed)
Speaker receives payment of RM12,857 for chairing each DUN sitting
- See details here
One million ringgit or more for each Selangor DUN
In any case, Selangor is a rich state and the Aduns are given an annual allocation of RM1 million each, if not more, for their constituency and constituents. (S’gor can’t be compared to a poor state like Sabah or a small state like Perlis.)
This one million ringgit or more allocation is separate from the Adun’s own personal salary and allowances.
Selangor Adun’s (old rates):
- basic allowance of RM4,112.79
- housing allowance (RM700)
- entertainment allowance (RM500)
- special allowance (RM1,500)
- phone allowance (RM500)
- office allowance (RM2,000)
- allowance for a driver (RM1,500)
Total allowances amounting to RM10,812.79
Furthermore, there is the Selangorku grant for the Aduns that was worth RM300 million in 2012. This sum would surely have increased to at least half a billion by now.
“The Selangor reps deserve a large increase”
See chart below for the comparative results of the identical polls carried in Anil’s blog (red bar) and Helen’s blog (blue bar).
“You pay peanuts, you get monkeys”
As you can see from the answers by respondents to Anil’s poll, the opposition supporters barely half a year ago had given a ringing endorsement to the quantum leap in the salaries, perks and allowances paid to the Selangor exco.
In fact, the Dapsters in their defence of the pay hike went to the extent of saying “if you pay peanuts, you get monkeys”.
Hannah’s “hands are still clean”
The Pakatan people last November said that their Selangor legislators deserved to be paid more than the PM, DPM and cabinet ministers because DAP, PKR and PAS politicians are the simply best.
These Pakatan political icons deserved every last sen of the pay hike, said the sheeple, because they are Bersih, Cekap dan Amanah.
Hannah Yeoh claimed that she has fully earned her salary which is as big as the PM’s because she has “no other side income” – see @hannahyeoh tweet above – through corruption and taking bribes. She declared “my hands are still clean” (below).
Khalid not treated with kid gloves
All this while, Pakatan have been telling us that Khalid Ibrahim is an excellent administrator unlike his predecessors the Selangor Umno MBs who were corrupt.
Now barely a few months down the road following his “well deserved” pay rise, they suddenly turn around and say Khalid is dirty, incompetent and has no integrity, and must be kicked out immediately.
The PKR disciplinary board even wants to haul up Khalid to explain the “issue” of his new allowances as Menteri Besar. This is despite the previous resounding public approval (from the Pakatan side) given Khalid and his exco that the lot of them were only being paid their due, i.e. tripled salaries, because they are most deserving high performers.
“My 2 babies have only toys”
Perhaps Khalid Ibrahim should take a leaf from Hannah Yeoh’s book when he faces the PKR disciplinary committee.
Khalid can echo Hannah’s excuses – see tweet above – on why his hands are still clean. He can say, “My wife has no role in any state agencies”, and “My two grandchildren have only toys and not involved in any companies doing business with government”.
If these justifications are good enough to serve the Madame Speaker, there is no reason why they should not be good enough to serve the Menteri Besar in the court of public opinion.
