What has Najib’s “moderation” achieved the last four years?

Najib Razak mentioned the word “moderate” and its variants a total of 14 times in his recent speech to the UN general assembly.

Our prime minister said in New York, “Four years ago, I stood before you [the United Nations] and called for a global movement of the moderates, to counter extremism”.

PM then proceeded to set up an organization called Global Movement of Moderates (GMM). He installed Saifuddin Abdullah – pix below – as CEO together with J-Star boss Wong Chun Wai as foundation trustee.

What Najib said at the UN about moderates

In his Sept 26 speech (full text here), PM said:

“We believe this moderate approach can make a valuable contribution to fragile states and international affairs alike.”

“In coming weeks, Malaysia will work with all interested partners to move the moderation agenda forward at the UN.”

“By demonstrating moderation in the political process, we can ensure no-one is left outside society. By practicing moderation in religion, we can marginalize the extremists.”

“The moderation agenda involves us all.”

“The fight against extremism is not about Christians versus Muslims, or Muslims versus Jews, but moderates versus extremists of all religions.”

Najib’s moderation agenda

Our PM told the UN general assembly that Malaysia rejects “this so-called Islamic State” (referring to ISIL). Najib said, “We reject this state defined by extremism”.

Prime Minister Najib believes that he stands for moderation and hence established GMM which he put under the care of Saifuddin and Chun Wai.

The PM’s moderate think-tank – GMM – was established in April 2012.

But look at some of the events (photos below) that took place in the few months following Najib’s “moderate” foundation starting their wonderful work. It appears that the more ‘moderate’ Najib is, the more extreme his opponents become.

ABOVE: Even teenagers step on Najib’s head

They don’t like Najib and Rosmah’s face

Najib is moderate.

The opposition lawmaker in Penang below stuffed kangkung into Najib’s face. But PM is tolerant.

A couple of days ago, sex blogger Alvin Tan superimposed a pig snout on Rosmah’s face, on top of making a criminally defamatory statement about her. PM is still very tolerant.

Najib spoke in New York about moderation. Well, what is he doing about the immoderate people in his own backyard? He gives their defenders and advocates cushy positions in his pet projects.

Najib hands over national agenda to opposition

The PM has allowed his opponents to hijack not only our national discourse but permitted them to define the word “moderate”.

His department apparently even funds them so that they can take the centrestage.

At the UN, Najib criticized the “Islamic State” extremists. He said, “The actions of these militants are beyond conscience and belief”.

It is equally beyond conscience and belief when a DAP Member of Parliament and his party supporters dare to outright accuse certain VVIPs of committing murder.

BELOW: J-Star ‘Voices of Moderation campaign propaganda

It is “awesomely” (mind-bogglingly) beyond conscience and belief when so many opposition supporters can slander with impunity as if they were themselves eyewitnesses to that particular killing.

It is beyond conscience and belief that the Najib administration has allowed the avalanche of vicious lies concocted by the opposition “militants” / “extremists” to go unchecked.

It is beyond all sense and rationality that the Gomen headed by Najib Razak has not done anything to stamp out the culture of fabricating fitnah which the Yahudi Yeohs have entrenched in our society. Instead it is the biaDAPs who stamp on Najib’s face photos.

Najib alienates his allies, rewards his enemies

PM said in the UN:

“We must break the cycle where one group gains power only to wield it against the other. Where marginalisation leads to radicalisation, as people lose confidence in the state’s ability to provide both security and co-existence.”

Allow me to transpose what Najib said above in BN voter terms:

(1) We, the 47 percent voters who pangkah Dacing in the last election, will break the cycle of support for the ruling party in the coming GE14 unless the BN chairman shows some signs that he recognizes who are his friends and who are his enemies.

(2) We, who are alluded to as “stupid” by the former group editor of the MCA media, can clearly see that one group is gaining more and more power by the day. This group is not the BN.

(3) We, especially those of us living in Selangor and Penang, see the arrogant, greedy group rise and rise and wielding their power against us.

(4) We are being marginalized by the Gomen that panders to the ABU-ers. Pro-establishment groups are fast catching up with the anti-government groups in terms of radicalization because of the lembik Najib (lack of) leadership.

(5) People are losing confidence in the state’s ability to provide both security and co-existence. We are losing confidence in Najib Razak because he fails to understand that tolerance is wasted on the Yahudi Yeohs. The more tolerant Najib is, the more extreme his opponents become.

Ambiga Najib

BN leaders called “maggots”

See screenshot below.

Tun said that he has withdrawn his support from Najib. And when asked by reporters, he repeated that he no longer supports Najib’s leadership. According to Tun, BN might lose the next general election if Najib remains as Captain of the boat.

At the UN, Najib said that “we must defeat not just the extremists, but also their ideas”.

Herein lies the crux of the matter.

Najib Razak and his lieutenants such Khairy Zumba are bolstering the ideas of the opposition and shooting at their own side, e.g. KJ likening Isma to Boko Haram.

Allies of the “maggots”

In the TMI article headlined ‘Walk the talk, social media users tell Najib over his UN speech‘ (27 Sept 2014), Lawyers for Liberty executive director Eric Paulsen was quoted as tweeting: “@NajibRazak says the right thing at UN but fails miserably back in Msia – Umno, Isma, Perkasa, Utusan, Jakim, Jais extremism for all to see”.

Latheefa Koya was quoted on Twitter by TMI as saying: “Najib urges global community to defeat violent extremism & religious intolerance – hello? ada kenal Isma & perkasa? (heard of Isma and Perkasa?)”

Isma is made a scapegoat. JAIS is the bogeyman.

If 52 percent of Malaysians can be convinced that Isma is extremist and JAIS are religious bigots, then BN – which only won 47 percent of the popular vote in GE13 – will surely lose GE14.

The big problem is that Najib’s actions are misdirected to benefit the opposite camp that wants to bury Umno and send the BN into oblivion.

Can the Prime Minister’s office tell us how much money the PM’s Department has contributed to GMM which is funding the J-Star‘s ‘Voices of Moderation’ campaign?

As much as we don’t want the Sngor MB to be remote controlled…

  3. If you ask all these people, they will claimed that they are the moderates.

Not only they want to hijack the term moderate, they even want to hijack the term Progressive

  4. That is why ‘kepercayaan kepada Tuhan’ plays a very important role. Muslims, we have our holy Quran to help guide us in basic ways of living and similarly I am sure the holy books of other religions. All religion share a common goal, the expectations tht their followers lead a good and peaceful and moderate ways of life. Al Quran dah sediakan segalanya!

Tak payah buang duit dok initiate this and that think-tank… Back to religion la Datuk Seri Najib. Problem is, all the huha brahuha on religions, do majority try hard enough to get to know their own religious practices?

Aci Ambiga, satu bulan berapa kali aci pergi Temple bercampur dgn gulungan seAgama you sendiri? (jgn asyik Marina an MrsObama aje tau). Kalau you cannot straighten up your own people (eg the ‘WICKED’ caste system, tak malu ke asyik accuse the ruling authorities (majority Malay Muslims) of being oppressive or whtever.

Apek2, Aney2 Christians and of other beliefs, showing your private parts and sex acts fotos FOC online, bogel macam beruk in public places are these acceptable or encouraged in your holy books?

  5. Helen,

I am confused, it’s looks like there’s two version of moderation principled hear,

Najib version, ‘love thou’s opponent’s and neglect thou’s supporters’.

The evangelist version, ‘hate thou’s opponent’s and cares thou’s supporters’.

but I still prefer my own version, ‘Gua tak kacau Lu, Lu jangan kacau Gua’.

I think that, what has been practice by the Malays all these years that manage us come this far.

    1. re: The evangelist version, hate your opponents

Methinks: That they hate and DESTROY their opponents is more accurate. Look at what they (PRK & DAP) did to Khalid Ibrahim.

Has any Umno MB ever been removed by his party in such bad form?

  6. The opposite of moderate is extremist. There are many extremist groups in the world. The Communist Party of Malaya is one such home breed extremist group, where the aim to wrest control of the country through violence means.

Groups that disrespect the Perlembagaan can be considered as extremists as these individuals can create a chaotic society. Any sane group or individuals that resort to violence means to exert control on a peaceful society are extremists.

Violence means may not necescarily taking up arms and killing someone. Extreme and dangerous politics with seditious tone simply to create unstability and chaotic society should be considered as extremists hiding behind the veil of liberal democracy and freedom of speech.

Violence threats from extremist groups from Southern Phillipines are real and we have seen the consequences in eastern Sabah.

While we get excited with global issues, hell is breaking loose in our backyard. I don’t see the solution with just educating the public to embrace moderate behaviour. Education must be complemented with tougher laws. We need tougher laws to maintain peace and stability in this country and to ensure the continuity of the existing social contract.

SOSMA has to be revamped to make it more effective to contain the rising political extremism that purposely aiming at creating a chaotic society. Seditious Act has to be maintained.

  7. What-has-najibs-moderation-achieved-the-last-four-years;
    1) Disparity between races widened
    2) Respect between races no longer exist
    3) Religions being insulted
    4) Monarchy system being insulted
    5) Common human values diminishing.

In short, due to Najib’s stupidity, we are heading towards a chaotic country.

  8. Bangsa Melayu ni paling mudah hanyut… paling mudah sgt terikut2 budaya yg tidak mendtgkan faedah malah merugikan lagi. Dari dulu skrg dan akan dtg. Silih berganti mengikut zaman. Habis satu disorok yang baru agar terus lalai.

The only last benteng yang ada pada Melayu hanyalah Islam.

Ittaqullah… wahai bangsaku.

  10. Even since Ah Jib Gor has been a ‘moderate’ :-

    * our permaisuri Agong was [given] the finger in Penang
    * Sultan Perak was insulted by Karpal Singh
    * Sultan Selangor was ‘kurang ajar’ by Anwar Ibrahim
    * The muslims are being insulted with being associated with PORK remarks
    * the hardcore criminals are being released and went on the killing spree
    * Facebook has become a gallery for the Chinese to insults the Malays

  11. To be fair to Najib, he has done quite a lot in terms of liberalizing the economy and the political system. He has also set the judiciary free, allowed for more democratic space for free speech, clamped down on corruption and leakages of public funds and boosted the govt delivery mechanism.

I would give him top marks for Najib for all these from a business and economic perspective. That’s why investors and foreign leaders like and admire him. In almost every single key global KPI for nations Malaysia has climbed up under Najib’s watch. This is undeniable. Najib the economic leader scores an A grade with me. However Najib the political leader only scraps through with a C. And that’s my concern.

The crux of the problem is whatever reforms and improvements he makes, not only that it won’t translate into votes but also turned against him. For no matter what he achieves and the reforms he carries out, those who support PR will not vote for him. They are, as I had alluded before, analogous to the rich man’s wife who lives a lavish lifestyle on husband’s money while sleeping with a young Ah Beng.

For example, Najib abolished the RRA Act and that unleashed hardened criminals and made the violent crime stats rise sky high. He abolished the ISA and as a result we have legions of home-grown terrorists fighting wars around the world. He allowed for more free speech, and we have PR leaders and supporters continuously making highly provocative speeches and insults the Malays / Islam / Royalty / government.

The greater press freedom meant that PR-front websites like MI, M-Kini, MC, the Heat, etc free to spread malicious lies and poison.

Did the civil society and PR ever gave any credit for all the reforms and progress Naib brought about ? Do you think all these achievements even resulted in 0.001% increase in Chinese votes ? I don’t think so. In fact PR and their front-NGOs keep claiming that Najib is even worse that Tun M by being more repressive and dictatorial. LKS even has the temerity to demand Najib to be charged under Sedition Act for his speech at UMNO AGM for saying he will defend Putrajaya until death. Look at how PR manipulates, drive fear into rakyat and create hatred toward UMNO/BN.

My advice is this – give the PR and NGOs the middle finger and tighten the controls. They going to complain any way one way or another. Forget about the liberalization of politics and human rights. It is time to play rough – dust off the baseball bat and bring out and take out the PR’s and NGO’s knee caps and b****. Hit them where it really hurts. Keep this going until BN regains 2/3. Only then Najib should talk about political reforms.

    1. Weak leaders embolden the anarchists and extremists. And Najib is a weak leader politics wise.

Political reforms should be incremental and if necessary, under certain circumstances be reversed to safeguard the interests of law abiding citizens.

      1. I agree, political reforms must be incremental as they can easily used against you as it happened with Pak Lah.

The problem with Najib being a weak political leader is that he doesn’t have the strong support of the people. He’s in reality a leader resting almost entirely on the narrow support base of the Malays plus Indians and other Sabah/Sarawak bumis.

The problem is that he has no 2/3 majority. Without this majority, Najib will be weak and unable to tackle sensitive political issues. If he has a broader base, then he will have a freer rein and a stronger hand. Within UMNO his position weakened considerably after the GE.
