Former Johor DAP deputy chairman Norman Fernandez strongly condemns the DAP leadership for deceiving Chinese voters into thinking that it was impossible for PAS to implement hudud.

The DAP had misled non-Malays that PAS would require a two-thirds Parliamentary majority to bring its hudud plan to fruition, he said in a press statement.

Truth is, explained Fernandez, the hudud amendment only requires a simple majority if brought to the Dewan Rakyat through a private member’s bill.

Last year, there was his outburst against blogger “bangang”. Today, Najib hit out at “jemuan” in the Umno body politic.

He blames “jemuan-jemuan” for causing disharmony in Umno, according to a Bernama report.

Accusing them of pitting Umno people against each other, the party president said it is due to the incitement by these jemuan-jemuan that “so much of our shortcomings are amplified”.

Below is the translation I’ve made of Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s commentary on 1MDB featured today in his blog Chedet.

The translation from Dr M’s original write-up in Malay is my voluntary effort in the public interest and is not authorised by Tun.

1. Umno held a closed door briefing which was attended by some of the party division chiefs on March 8. According to press reports, the meeting had concluded with full support expressed for the party President.

2. The topic of 1MDB is one that is being widely discussed by the public. However, the explanations provided by the Umno President (to the division chiefs) concerning the 1MDB controversy have not been publicly revealed.

(i)  Sembah taklimat terkini pertahanan Negara oleh YM. Jen. Tan Sri Raja Mohamed Affandi bin Raja Mohamed Noor (Panglima Tentera Darat) dan mengenai keselamatan oleh YDH. Tan Sri Dato’ Sri Khalid bin Abu Bakar (Ketua Polis Negara).

(ii) Perkara-perkara mengenai Agama Islam.

(iii) Pelantikan Ahli Suruhanjaya Pilihan Raya.

(iv) Pelantikan semula seorang Ahli Dilantik Jawatankuasa Fatwa Kebangsaan bagi Hal Ehwal Ugama Islam Malaysia (MKI).

(v) Pelantikan ahli Lembaga Penasihat Penyelarasan Pelajaran.

Sebarang usaha yang cuba mengheret dan mencemar nama baik Majlis Raja-raja merupakan suatu usaha terancang menghakis kedaulatan Sistem Demokrasi dan Raja Berperlembagaan.

Isma should strike out on their own

There’s a report today in FMT headlined ‘Isma slams weakling govt for not defending Islam‘.

Isma really shouldn’t wait for the federal government to take any concrete action because the chief of the executive branch, Najib Razak, is preoccupied with more pressing demands such as ensuring his own precarious political survival.

The Economist: Ex-premier “itching for Mr Najib to step down”

The Economist, an influential international business magazine in its latest report ‘Gathering steam‘ said, “Problems at a state investment fund are bad news for Malaysia’s prime minister” referring to 1MDB.

The London-based magazine also said:

“Mr Najib is probably more worried about criticism from within his own party, the United Malays National Organisation (UMNO). The fund has long attracted sniping from factions loyal to Mahathir Mohamad, a meddling former prime minister who is itching for Mr Najib to step down.”

Most young Chinese in Malaysia are Christian

The DAP politicians who have access to Penang and Selangor state resources are earnestly evangelizing the kids and teenagers and young adults.

On 17 May 2013, I had blogged that Najib Razak’s exclamation of “Chinese tsunami” was factually correct and it was indeed true that Chinese voters had ditched the BN wholesale in the election which was held a week-plus earlier (May 5).

And I provided the data to support my finding.

Well, guess what?

In terms of Chinese sentiment – i.e. how the Chinese feel about the country and the government, the Merdeka Center public opinion survey results for the first quarter of 2015 are now a perfect match with the 2013 election mood.

There are about half a million Chinese evangelical Christians in Malaysia, according to the estimate by author Iain Buchanan (right).

They are very aggressive in their dakwah and have huge ambitions.

Will Najib save himself through hudud hook-up?

We’re a mere fortnight away from the historic sitting of the state assembly in Kelantan on March 18 to table the hudud amendment bill.

And hudud is just the lever to pry the Islamist party away from its coalition partner DAP. Despite their earlier charade of being Islam-friendly, DAP is dead set against this law under Islam for meting out capital and corporal punishment .

Needless to say, it is to Umno’s best interest – if not the BN’s very survival – for PAS to leave Pakatan.

And thus Umno is, apparently, prepared to support the Kelantan hudud bill.

Tick, tock, tick, tock … Najib’s days are numbered

There’s now the Jho Low controversy swirling feverishly around Najib Razak and triggered by no less than a lengthy report published in one of the world’s most famous newspapers – The New York Times.

Then there is also the Sarawak Report special investigation exposé which was reputedly put together with yet another newspaper of international renown – London’s Sunday Times.

All this makes you ponder just what kind of people – the Jho Low type, I reckon – it is that our PM is surrounded by.

Will Terengganu Islam soon cross the Titiwangsa?

Beginning this year, all supermarkets in Terengganu are required to close for two hours during zohor on Fridays.

Then there is the plan to punish Terengganu men who miss the Friday congregational prayers by parading them in hearses around town.

It was also reported that Muslim couples riding a motorcycle together in Terengganu, if not married to each other, would have to attend a religious counselling session.
