What has the Church been doing?

Two weeks ago (, Tan Zhong Yan initiated a petition at https://www.change.org to “Save the migrants/asylum-seekers stranded at sea!”

Tan Zhong Yan @Ambiga

Tan Zhong YanZhong Yan (pix right) wrote in his petition, “The act of turning away boats with hundreds of people in dire conditions is not only irresponsible but also cruel and inhumane“.

In a separate letter to the editor (Malaysiakini) a day earlier titled ‘Refugees are human beings!‘, Zhong Yan had slammed Malaysia, saying our country “should stop persecuting the already persecuted”.

He added that Malaysia “should not subject them to further abuse and persecution“. Instead we should show “humanity, empathy and love”, he said.

“Refugees commit no crime. The only ‘wrongs’ that they have committed were probably that they were being born in the wrong country, wrong ethnicity or having and believing the ‘wrong’ religion,” wrote Zhong Yan.

Have mercy

“We the people” want the gomen to …

In another petition, Debbie Loh and Philip Teh wrote, “… we the people want incoming migrants who have been abandoned at sea by traffickers to be rescued and cared for by our elected Malaysian government, until a secure fate can be assured to them”.

Urging Putrajaya to ‘Rescue the Rohingyans’, Debbie and Philip said the Malaysian government must provide the Rohingya refugees and migrants “with shelter, adequate medical care, clothing, food and water”.

Well, we now know that despite all the heartache expressed by DAP evangelista politicians, the DAP-led Penang nonetheless rejected the Home Minister’s appeal for the state to shelter the Rohingya.

It’s a good thing then that the DAP is not as yet in control of the Malaysian government or else Debbie and Philip’s petition would have fallen on stone.

The Malaysian government (which has since relented on its ‘pushback’ policy) is further urged by Debbie and Philip to declare Putrajaya’s “commitment to the rescue and care of future refugees and vulnerable migrants who will enter Malaysia’s maritime borders”.

Council of Churches expresses its deep concern

The Council of Churches of Malaysia said “it is inhuman to push their flimsy boats back into the open sea” and called for “a more compassionate response”.

The churches said we “must strictly follow the provisions of the Geneva Convention of Refugees” although Malaysia is not a signatory to the convention.

The churches also said that as they “view every picture or report that depicts the desolation of the Rohingyas, we shall embrace them in our prayers, asking that God will work through political leaders that may see an end to their plight”.

Apparently Lim Guan Eng is not one of the political leaders through whom God works to see an end to the Rohingya plight.

BELOW: Penang Deputy Chief Minister (II) tweeted that “Malaysia’s decision to send Rohingya home draws UN criticism”.

ABOVE: Penang Deputy Chief Minister (II) is “wary of Rohingyas being placed in Penang”. See, https://www.malaysiakini.com/news/299985

When the federal government of Malaysia wanted to push back the Rohingya, Putrajaya is bashed as cruel and inhumane by the DAP. But when it is suggested that the Rohingya are placed temporarily in Penang, the reaction of its chief minister and his deputy is nope, nope, nope.

Lambs of God

They like to lecture others to “have a heart” but when it comes to real action, we can see the evangelistas’ true colours.

Ever since Hannah Yeoh’s tweets a fortnight ago (May 14) imploring Najib Razak to “have mercy” and pointing out that “punishing someone for being stateless = discriminating someone based on race”, her Twitter timeline has been silent on the Rohingya issue.

Last week, the Christian Federation welcomed Malaysia’s decision to provide humanitarian aid to the Rohingya refugees and Bangladeshi migrants.

All churches in Malaysia were to “render help and support to aid agencies which are mobilising to alleviate the suffering of these migrant boat people”.

Kudos to the Church for showing Christian love to our Asean neighbours.

Have you read in the news or seen on TV what the Church has done for the Rohingya since then? Anybody know?

  1. Helen.

  2. But the overwhelming majority of the luckless Rohingyas are Muslims, are they not?

Why don’t you ask what the various Muslim charitable organizations in Malaysia have been doing to help these Rohingyas?

It is positively Goebbelsian to ask “what has the Church been doing” to help the Rohingyas.

But that is SOP for you, isn’t it? To tar and feather anybody or anything associated with Christianity?

Maybe “Casey Nice” had something valid to say, hence you coming down on him or her like the proverbial ton of bricks with plaintive cries of “fitnah”, “defamation” and “slander”.

Why is it positively Goebbelsian to ask whether the Church has carried what they’ve been loudly preaching?

I surrender! Please, please, stop torturing me. I’ll confess now, this instant. I’m pro-Buddhist.

It’s a ‘him’, got Facebook link. He and his creepy Christian gang have been stalking in several of the alpha sopo blogs. He’s a Wormtongue evangelista. That says it all.

      1. Helen,

Wise men often say “the proof of pudding is in the eating”.

I believe Dr Zahid was merely trying to remind Communist DAP the meaning of this saying. He of course is not that naive to believe Guan Eng will whole heartedly embrace these refugess.

By suggesting Rohingyas to be placed in Penanag, he is showing us how snobbish and shallow DAP is.

DAP of course is superb when it come to preaching others. Preaching only. Kerja tak jalan. Bercakap saja boleh

        1. re: “he is showing us how snobbish and shallow DAP is”

He hit the jackpot in calling out the DAP hypocrisy.

re: “DAP of course is superb when it come to preaching others”

Like someone who preached, “May God on mercy on the racists …”

          re: “Preaching only.”

They actually get invitations to be guest preachers in the evangelical churches, y’know.

re: “Kerja tak jalan. Bercakap saja boleh.”

Barangkali gelaran Puan SPEAKER agak bertepatan.

….Why don’t you ask what the various Muslim charitable organizations in Malaysia have been doing to help these Rohingyas?…..

      https://mochamadyusliyunus.wordpress.com/2013/07/15/8-golongan-asnaf-yang-layak-menerima-zakat/

You kena faham cara oghang Islam dan banyak kena mula baca tau.

One of the pillars of Islam is Zakat a duty performed on a regular basis. Zakat is not an option it is a compulsory act for all Muslims. Zakat is a compulsory payment and is neither charity nor a tax.

Lagi satu kalau nak bersedekah kami tak palu gendang kuat2 tau. Tak perlu pi dok beraksi kat semejid pada bulan puasa sengeh2 ambil gambar sambil menghulur tau tak. Tak payah keluaq dalam The Star and whatnot. Itu publisiti murahan.

      1. Rithmatist,

You can make some mental calculation.

Kalau le semua 50orang yang terkaya dalam Malaysia adalah orang Islam, bayangkan berapa banyak Zakat dapat dikutip tiap tahun dari mereka ini.

Rasanya there will not be a single poor person in Malaysia.

        1. Dalam sepuluh terkaya, Syed Bukhary tops the list sebagai yang paling pemurah. Robert Kuok patut duk Hong Kong, malu ler tu!

          1. According to Forbes Asia, Syed Mokhtar has set up refugee camps in Pakistan, orphanages in Guinea and rehabilitation programs for disaster victims in China, Indonesia and Iran. He has also opened hospitals in Uganda, South Africa, Nepal and Australia, and he has a university in Alor Setar, Malaysia, which allows poor students from anywhere in the world to study for free. In total, he has donated up to 500 million!

            http://www.expatgomalaysia.com/2014/06/27/forbes-asias-heroes-of-philanthropy-list-includes-4-malaysians/

            Baca Rithmatist. Baca. Baca.

            1. re: “a university in Alor Setar”

Is it operating? Vaguely recall that it was stalled.

      2. When you pay a much lower income tax rate rate than the non bumis, or even zero income tax in many cases, your 3% zakat that you pay is laughed at by us non bumis. In fact, your zakat is such a joke when the hypocrisy of the whole affair is there for all to see. Just admit the fact that the Muslims groups are doing next to nothing for these Muslim asylum seekers lah, and stop attacking the Christians for being compassionate.

        1. re: “Just admit the fact that the Muslims groups are doing next to nothing for these Muslim asylum seekers lah”

          Jeff,

To spare Rina from having to repeat herself, the truth of the matter is that the Malay groups have always been forward in extending charity, esp. to golongan asnaf as Rina has already pointed out.

re: “and stop attacking the Christians for being compassionate”

As far as I can see, the Christians talk a lot and almost non-stop about compassion.

It’s like Hannah Yeoh proclaiming that she is defending the “freedom to speak freely” but what she actually does is to block scores of Twitter users from her timeline.

          1. What I would like to know is how much the churches and DAP and bleeding heart fakes have been doing for those Rohingyas already in Malaysia.

            My guess is ZILCH.

        2. Read someplace there are only 1m individual tax payers in Malaysia. Banyak sangat ke hang sendiri dok bayar tiap tahun?

          Bayaq ke tidak ni?

          1. ‘When you pay a much lower income tax rate rate than the non bumis, or even zero income tax in many cases, your 3% zakat that you pay is laughed at by us non bumis.’

Jeff dengki ler tu, Islam Agama Persekutuan. Nasib baik kau dah BERAMBUS. Kan Jeff?

        3. Jeff oooi Jeff,
…..When you pay a much lower income tax rate rate than the non bumis, or even zero income tax in many cases, your 3% zakat that you pay is laughed at by us non bumis….

          Amboi sedap cakap?

Wiki kata …PETRONAS provides a substantial source of income for the Malaysian government, with 45% of the government’s budget dependent on PETRONAS’ dividend…

Majoriti pekerja (management and employees) dalam Petronas bagi membolehkan “a substantial source of income for the Malaysian government” you ingat siapa, Eskimos ?

Hang dok makan nasi tiap hari, boh minyak kenderaan pergi sana sini dan macam2 lagi agaknya siapa dok bertungkus lumus kerja bagi membolihkan kamu dapat enjoy subsidi2 ini?

    3. “It is positively Goebbelsian to ask “what has the Church been doing” to help the Rohingyas.”

Some churches provide aid and assistance to the Rohingya in addition to the non-Rohingya Myanmar refugees.

Given this, I hope nobody here will now suddenly say these people are trying to apostatise the Rohingya from their faith.

“But that is SOP for you, isn’t it? To tar and feather anybody or anything associated with Christianity?”

      Is it not obvious? ;-)

“Maybe “Casey Nice” had something valid to say, hence you coming down on him or her like the proverbial ton of bricks with plaintive cries of “fitnah”, “defamation” and “slander”.”

As the saying goes: Those who eat the chilli feels the heat. Hence, two long and lengthy rambling articles were written.

      1. https://helenang.wordpress.com/2015/05/27/the-evangelista-bully-pulpit/ is a total of 16 words. You call that “long”, “lenghty rambling”?

No wonder you people can swear that Bak Kut Teh is not pork.

I’ve had enough of that Casey Wormtongue. He’s been stalking me 24/7 a couple of years already and scattering his finah and innuendo like birdshit ‘everywhere’ (in the several alpha blogs).

Don’t forget that his comment was the first to appear at Annie’s and that a mere 11 minutes after she uploaded her article.

      2. “https://helenang.wordpress.com/2015/05/27/the-evangelista-bully-pulpit/ is a total of 16 words. You call that “long”, “lenghty rambling”?”

Did you bother to include that long screenshot you made? ;-)

“He’s been stalking me 24/7 a couple of years already and scattering his finah and innuendo like birdshit ‘everywhere’ (in the several alpha blogs).”

That sounds like somebody who has been stalking Hannah Yeoh. And that somebody goes further than Casey; she has a blog dedicated to slagging off Hannah in almost every article, and possibly spends additional countless hours compiling screenshots, and crudely edited photos. ;-)

        1. re: “Did you bother to include that long screenshot you made? ;-) ”

A screenshot is a picture file. It does not figure in the Word Count.

re: “And that somebody goes further than Casey; she has a blog dedicated to slagging off Hannah in almost every article, and possibly spends additional countless hours compiling screenshots, and crudely edited photos. ;-) ”

Surely the asymmetry must be obvious even to you. LGE has more than 20 Special Officers. Politicians have a number of special or personal assistants.

Previously, I had mentioned that I’m courageously speaking truth to power. Here I must empathize the gross imbalance. I’m the David to her Goliath.

And slagging Hannah is based on fact – screenshots – like you concede – are scrupulously compiled.

Whereas the smear campaign against me is as much a pure fabrication, as when during the Kajang by-election campaign, the dajjals circulated that poster fitnah Chew Mei Fun saying she abused her (non-existent) Indonesian maid and that’s why she had to kononnya resign as Dep. Minister. “They” also spread a rumour that she was involved with a married man. See how wicked they are.

I’m being stalked not only by Creepy Casey but an evangelista ‘gang’ (meaning more than one individual but not implying that they’re necessarily in cahoots).

Do you know what the creepy Christians do to people? Read up on Tom Cruise’s ex-wives Nicole Kidman and Katie Holmes, and see what the Scientology cultists did to them as well as to other former members who managed to get away.

        2. “A screenshot is a picture file. It does not figure in the Word Count.”

I said “long and lengthy rambling articles”. Not long and lengthy worded rambling articles.

An article with no words, but a parade of screenshots can still be lengthy.

“Previously, I had mentioned that I’m courageously speaking truth to power. ”

That reeks of some hyperinflated self-importance.

“Here I must empathize the gross imbalance. I’m the David to her Goliath.”

So is the opposition, civil society, alternative media, and others to the government’s massive media juggernaut, their access to resources, and their control of the nation’s institutions.

“Whereas the smear campaign against me is as much a pure fabrication”

You are running a smear campaign itself, with a lot of insinuations passed off as facts. ;-)

The opposition has been slandered far worse. Lim Guan Eng’s son was accused of molesting a girl, Anwar is in prison despite dodgy evidence, and there are many other examples.

“I’m being stalked not only by Creepy Casey but an evangelista ‘gang’ (meaning more than one individual but not implying that they’re necessarily in cahoots).”

Did they attack your website and bring it down just as how those government agents did? Did they install spyware to tap your computer and telephone? Did they make a frivolous police report resulting in you spending hours at a police station? Do they have a SB officer tailing you? No? Oh, they just made some insulting comments about you on the internet??

“Do you know what the creepy Christians do to people? Read up on Tom Cruise’s ex-wives Nicole Kidman and Katie Holmes, and see what the Scientology cultists did to them as well as to other former members who managed to get away.”

Scientology is not a Christian organisation. Especially when it believes in UFOs, alien volcanos, the divinity of a B-grade science fiction writer named L Ron Hubbard, and Xenu the alien lord.

          1. re: “I said ‘long and lengthy rambling articles’. Not long and lengthy worded rambling articles. An article with no words, but a parade of screenshots can still be lengthy.”

Thanks for the Show & Tell. Now my non-Chinese readers can see for themselves a demonstration of how Bak Kut Teh was passed off as an organic vegetarian dish.

re: “Previously, I had mentioned that I’m courageously speaking truth to power. / That reeks of some hyperinflated self-importance.”

On the contrary, I cannot stress enough how important is the Speaker post in the political hierarchy and thus the vast gulf between the powerful Madame and lil’ ol’ powerless me. Measured in this regard, and considering the Dapster-evangelista assassin squads, I’m VERY courageous to be speaking truth to power.

Not many Chinese in Malaysia are willing to run the gauntlet of the What-Kind-Of-People.

re: “So is the opposition, civil society, alternative media, and others to the government’s massive media juggernaut, their access to resources, and their control of the nation’s institutions.”

If the government’s massive media juggernaut was indeed that effective, the PM wouldn’t be foundering. And if ‘they’ had such control over the nation’s institutions, then how come the TMI editors are still at large?

re: “You are running a smear campaign itself, with a lot of insinuations passed off as facts. ;-) ”

If I got my facts wrong, anyone is free to correct me. Unfortunately the political mafia can only send Mr Get-a-Life and Mr Alphabet-Foul-Mouth-Soup. But I wouldn’t underestimate the evangelista Wormtongues though.

re: “The opposition has been slandered far worse. Lim Guan Eng’s son was accused of molesting a girl, Anwar is in prison despite dodgy evidence, and there are many other examples.”

I would tend to believe the accusation. Unfortunately the Umno bloggers got punk’d into using the (wrong) photo of the girl – which is a testimony of how sneaky the DAP psywar team is – and thus undermining their own credibility. They again got punk’d when they were tricked into using the photo of the pen drive inventor and mistakenly saying he was the Red Bean Army general.

re: “Did they attack your website and bring it down just as how those government agents did?”

Hahaha. It’s a bone you can’t let go. Fitnah is worse than getting my blog jammed. Once they got tired of doing the jamming, it’s back to business as usual. No scars and no trauma.

Not so with fitnah. This is my up close and personal reason why I chose the lesser of two devils.

re: “Did they install spyware to tap your computer and telephone?”

Are you implying I’m such a big fish? Earlier it was you yourself who said I am “reek[ing] of some hyperinflated self-importance”.

re: “Did they make a frivolous police report resulting in you spending hours at a police station?”

Yes, I was told that someone (whom I suspect to be a DAP politician’s Special Officer) lodged a report against me with the MCMC. However the MCMC people must have been sensible enough to bin the complaint as vexatious and malicious.

re: “Do they have a SB officer tailing you? No?”

I’m not sure if the regime ever had an SB on me. Like you already said, it would be “reek[ing] of some hyperinflated self-importance” to think that I’m worth their time and manpower.

re: “Oh, they just made some insulting comments about you on the internet??”

Insults are unavoidable. It’s the kind of vile comments like the criminal lies they spread about Chew Mei Fun which makes them dajjal.

re: “Scientology is not a Christian organisation.”

            Neither is the Jerusubang church.

          2. “Thanks for the Show & Tell. Now my non-Chinese readers can see for themselves a demonstration of how Bak Kut Teh was passed off as an organic vegetarian dish.”

That is you with your putar-belit, toss red herrings, and change goalposts.

“Yes, I was told that someone (whom I suspect to be a DAP politician’s Special Officer) lodged a report against me with the MCMC. However the MCMC people must have been sensible enough to bin the complaint as vexatious and malicious.”

So you speak out against slander, but are willing to believe the accusation, despite lack of evidence until today. Interesting double standards at work here.

“They again got punk’d when they were tricked into using the photo of the pen drive inventor and mistakenly saying he was the Red Bean Army general.”

Any proof they got tricked in the two incidents above? If I recall, the lie about Pua Khein Seng being the so-called Red Bean Army leader was printed by Utusan

            1. re: “That is you with your putar-belit, toss red herrings, and change goalposts.”

That is your side the oppo-DAP with your putar-belit asking Chinese to vote PAS in GE13 (“PAS for All”), tossing red herrings – “Hudud won’t hurt you if you don’t intend to commit any crime” – and then changing the goalpost by attacking PAS when in the first place it is PAS that has never deviated from its hudud ambition whereas it is DAP that has flip-flopped Hudud-for-All for the sake of a grab at Putrajaya.

              SNEAKY BASTARDS.

              re: “This one: http://www.themalaysianinsider.com/malaysia/article/perkasa-lodges-report-against-blogger

Obviously Perkasa has bad judgment. If they had better judgment, they would not have attended the evangelista Peace & Harmony banquet only to be publicly humiliated. And yes, I’ve been informed (one of the DAP Special Officers) lodged a report against me with the MCMC just like the DAP troopers lodged a reports against Lim Sian See for graphic content when he showed Subang Jaya’s super rat, lulz.

How sick can the DAP operatives be? Complaining that a rat photo is a graphic image? Another Show & Tell what kind of people DAP supporters are.

re: “So you speak out against slander, but are willing to believe the accusation, despite lack of evidence until today. Interesting double standards at work here.”

Yes, I’m willing to believe the accusation. An RM2 million donation was made by the CM’s crony to the school attended by Guan Eng’s son around the time of the controversy. Coincidence, much?

re: “Any proof they got tricked in the two incidents above?”

Some of the smarter Umno bloggers were warning their more sensation-seeking peers to be careful.

re: “If I recall, the lie about Pua Khein Seng being the so-called Red Bean Army leader was printed by Utusan.”

You could be right. This lack of due diligence explains why Utusan has lost several libel suits.

  3. I know what they have been doing: they bleat! That’s all they are good at. Nato, nothing, yilek.

  4. Clear case of hypocrisy of the highest order.

These DAP goons are always on the lookout for anything to publicize their so called ‘humanity’, ‘peace and love’ garbage.

In a split second, their disgust for the Rohingyas were showing in the way they refused the Rohingyas to be placed in Penang.

How can anyone trust these kind of people?

    1. re: “These DAP goons are always on the lookout for anything to publicize their so called ‘humanity’, ‘peace and love’ garbage.”

The Muslim NGOs are helping. They just don’t make a song and dance of their help for the cameras. I saw a documentary about some Malay tudung-ed teachers who are running a ‘school’ (ad hoc education facility) for Rohingya children and the kids are speaking bahasa Melayu. Nice.

re: “In a split second, their disgust for the Rohingyas were showing in the way they refused the Rohingyas to be placed in Penang.”

Yup, sneaky bastards. Take the creepy Christian Casey who commented in Annie’s blog, “Surely, [Helen] can’t be as cold-blooded and devoid of the slightest shreds of empathy and humanity, can she?”

Yeah, this coming from a guy who was spitting hatred at the mamak. If Annie’s readers were aware of Casey’s background (past comments about mamaks – see url below) would they believe his warm heart, empathy and humanity for the Rohingya to be genuine?

And then there was that editorial under Tinta Mutiara in an edition of Buletin Mutiara (Penang state fortnightly newspaper) that called the mamaks “Melayu celup kopi”.

What kind of people are they? Full of hate but pretending to love, love, love.

re: “How can anyone trust these kind of people?”

If they make you drunk enough on their J-Juice, they can. Unfortunately some young Malays are being enticed.

      1. ‘I saw a documentary about some Malay tudung-ed teachers who are running a ‘school’ (ad hoc education facility) for Rohingya children and the kids are speaking bahasa Melayu. Nice.’

Helen, tengok ni Mission Rohingya 2013, Global Peace Mission Malaysia…

      2. “Have you read in the news or seen on TV what the Church has done for the Rohingya since then? Anybody know?”

“The Muslim NGOs are helping. They just don’t make a song and dance of their help for the cameras.”

Don’t you just love the double standards here? ;-)

        1. The Muslim NGOs bikin senyap-senyap, bukan sekadar cakap kuat.

Christian NGOs kokok berderai-derai dan riuh sekampung but dunno what they’re contributing besides the claim you make for your friend’s doctor-father.

    2. Then what’s your take on “Catholic Philippines” taking in the Muslim asylum seekers?

      1. Sorry Urb, minta laluan untuk mencelah.

Jeff, I believe it’s the Muslim island of the Philippines that is offering asylum. Unless you have other info?

“The Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) is willing to host Rohingyas, who fled the massive persecution and human rights abuses they suffered in Myanmar (Burma), Gov. Mujiv Hataman said Friday.”

  5. Puan Speaker kerja nya kan …. speak speak speak ……. tweet tweet tweet ……. other that …… nothing doing. Typical of evangelistas ….. what comes from the head stops at the mouth ……. not the heart.

    1. I propose that we convert some of the Mega-churches into temporary shelters for the Rohingyans.

The millions they’ve collected through tithe-ing can be put to good use clothing, feeding and educating the Rohingyans.

The Rohingyans are human beings too you know, why waste the church money on overly expensive sound systems and acoustics when we can use it to help people.

      1. Some questions

So you are suggesting armed officers to be stationed in the churches? Rohingyas are afterall refugees and not privy to unrestricted movements.

Are you a tithes contributing church member?

Do you know for a fact help and contributions are not forthcoming from the Malaysian churches in aid of the Rohingyas?

        1. re: “So you are suggesting armed officers to be stationed in the churches?”

If we were take them in then yes, armed personnel will be monitoring
the camp/shelter 24/7 just like the other refugee camps around the world

re: “Rohingyas are afterall refugees and not privy to unrestricted movements.”

Of course, but it works both ways, if we were to take them in they will be under our care and protection from those who wish harm and not just the other way around.

re: “Are you a tithes contributing church member?”

          No.

re: “Do you know for a fact help and contributions are not forthcoming from the Malaysian churches in aid of the Rohingyas?”

And why not? Can’t they do a little bit more than just writing a letter.

          1. In general yes I agree churches should be given the opportunity to do more to serve the community, orang asli and help out in refugee camps.

The preeminent factor for such initiaves to be made possible lies with the alacrity of the authorities to accept and recognize the legitimacy of these voluntary humanitarian efforts.

I do not agree mega churches which are mostly situated in urban areas be made into temporary refugee camps on the basis of security concern in cases of flight risks. Furthermore it is hardly viable for the armed personnels to be deployed to those urban churches in the long run.

The ideal solution would be churches (and other charitable organizations) be allowed to set up outreaches near the refugee camps to allow volunteers to help out and contributions to be distributed.

            1. The churches already help the Orang Asli and other native communities, and Myanmar refugees. Some help is also provided to the Rohingya.

My ex-classmate’s father is a doctor who helps manage a church-based charity organisation. They provide medical services and other assistance to rural Orang Asli communities.

              1. I would have thought the Orang Asli are in the interior. So where are the Rohingya?

It was alleged that they were in Cameron Highlands and affected by the landslide last November but this was denied.

                1. ‘They provide medical services and other assistance to rural Orang Asli communities.’

Aku pula jumpa budak Amerika Latin ajar Bahasa Inggeris kat Orang Asli. Ehmm. Apa lagi blue ocean startegy ler kan, evangelizing, next church planting kat mana pulak lepas ni post Taman Medan?

                    1. Yes I do think so. Pasaipa nak ajar Bahasa Inggeris pula kalau bukan datang buat kerja evangelizing kan? Thus bible Melayu etc. Ingat kes kat Johor tu?

Helen, pasal church planting tu you boleh try check blog A Karim Omar.

                    2. Oh, I know they’ve been doing dakwah among the Orang Asli.

I meant proselytizing the Rohingya. Imagine lah in GE14, kalau yang Born Again Kristian tu dema undi DAP. Yang Islam pula undi Umno.

                  1. Islam1st

On the issue of proselytization, the authorities are also busy at work enticing the orang asli with land, development and other perks. This is not a secret.

                    Cheers

                    1. Islam1st

I am glad you agree with me the marginalized Orang Asli deserves land, development and other perks.

But if it is ikhlas, then why impose conditions? Why must the Orang Asli have to masuk Islam baru dapat bantuan?

                    2. ‘But if it is ikhlas, then why impose conditions? Why must the Orang Asli have to masuk Islam baru dapat bantuan?’

Bagi reference boleh? What theirs is theirs. Nobody should take that away from them. Masuk Islam atau tidak. Bantuan2 lain when the masuk Islam tu bukan pre-impose conditions. Itu sebab NGO Islam rajin buat kerja.

Lagipun duit zakat banyak. Tapi kalau kau ada bukti boleh kasi share kat sini?

                    3. Islam1st

When the authorities tell somebody if you want certain perks you must do certain things (e.g. masuk Islam) there is a pre-condition attached. No 2 ways about it.

I have a few links but I’ll just post one excerpt from a research paper…

The discourse of protection and the Orang Asli – USM
                      by R. Idrus

                      Click to access KM%20Vol.%2029%20Supp.%201%20-%20Art.%204%20-%20%28Rusaslina%20Idrus%29.pdf

                      Excerpt

The document stipulated “the aborigine being one of the ethnic minorities of the Federation must be allowed on an equal footing from the rights and opportunities which the law grants to other sections of the community”. It was also stated that the goal is “[the] ultimate integration [of the Orang Asli] with the Malay section of the community”, but “special measures should be adopted for the protection of the institution, customs, mode of life, persons, property and labour of the aborigine people” (Department of Information, 1961: 3, 5).

However, in the 1970s and 1980s, there was a strong push for the integration and assimilation of the Orang Asli with Malay communities through an Islamisation policy. Orang Asli leaders have reported many cases where the government encourages conversion to Islam by discriminating positively in favour of those who convert (Dentan et al., 1996; Nobuta, 2009)10. For example, those who converted were more likely to get new houses or new projects for their village. Whereas the Department’s 1961 official policy was based on the principle of an “open-ended integration that recognises the rights of the Orang Asli to assimilate themselves, only if they wish to do so,” on the ground the situation was quite different (Mohd Tap, 1990: 461). According to Mohd Tap, a former senior officer at the Department11, “In spite of this official position, there were discrepancies in the promotion of the official policy of integration carried out by individual Malay officials who took it upon themselves as being right and proper for them to impose their perceived superior culture by correcting certain behavioural patterns of the Orang Asli” (Mohd Tap, 1990: 461). It is not surprising that there is strong resentment against the Department among the Orang Asli communities (Dentan et al., 1996). Many observers have also pointed out the failure of this Department in protecting the rights of the Orang Asli.

                    4. HH do you have data to show how widespread is this practice? The way I see it one or two bad apples does not make it the Gomen policy, kan?

                    5. Islam1st,

Quote: The way I see it one or two bad apples does not make it the Gomen policy, kan?

The way I see it, if it is just 1 or 2 bad apples, then it wouldn’t be included in a published academic papers. The research did specifically talked about a certain ‘Islamization policy’ being in place at some point. No idea though if the said policy is still being enforced.

                      Cheers

                    6. ‘The way I see it, if it is just 1 or 2 bad apples, then it wouldn’t be included in a published academic papers. The research did specifically talked about a certain ‘Islamization policy’ being in place at some point.’

Quite the contrary. The research paper merely acknowledging the fact that, although the policy being otherwise, some had take it to themselves to ‘discriminate’. Just like any other organisation, gomen or private, people got discriminated.

‘No idea though if the said policy is still being enforced.’

There you go. It is never a policy to begin with.

                    7. Sorry to say..christianity is not a true religion to begin with..tak perlu nak tarik org masuk kristian setakat nak save org dgn ajaran tak betul korang..keep christianity to your self..I nasihat you..mati esok you tau la dosa murtadkan org islam tu 1000 kali ganda dosanya

              2. “So where are the Rohingya?”

There were some who entered Malaysia as refugees years ago. They are scattered across the country but mostly around Kuala Lumpur.

                1. So your friend’s doctor father’s church ministry is tending to the Rohingya in KL or in the rural areas together with the Orang Asli?

                2. To the rural Orang Asli communities.

I was responding to HH who says the churches should be given the opportunity to do more to serve the community, orang asli and help out in refugee camps.

                  1. If I am not mistaken, UNHCR is the one who should be approached if people want to help the refugees.

              3. AC-DC

I am aware assistance from churches are extended to the Orang Asli. But it is hardly what one would call a welcome effort by the authorities because there is always the wariness of proselytization.

As for church involvement in refugee camps, I am not aware if it is being put into practice beyond collection drives. I stand corrected on this.

I know churches often have mission trips abroad to 3rd world countries. It’s just a thought if church members can have the option to volunteer themselves right here to help out.

                Cheers

  6. “”Then what’s your take on “Catholic Philippines” taking in the Muslim asylum seekers?””

    Jeff,

Go get your facts straight , the so called catholic philipinese never did say that they are willing to take in these ppl.

In fact they stopped short on saying that and said that they will be willing to look into this matter and see how they could assist.

Where you get your information from someones ass or your own?
