Penang Deputy Chief Minister I Rashid Hasnon is just as forgettable and without purpose as his two predecessors Mansor Othman and Mohammad Fairus Khairuddin.
PKR’s Malay trio serve only as multiracial props together on stage with Lim Guan Eng. Their function is to be a decorative item — like flower pots.
If the Penang DCM I post is really functional, then there is no reason why Rashid should not move up to become the state’s acting chief executive while Guan Eng goes on sabbatical.
But the reality is that the Pakatan New Hope power sharing is a sham.
Even though the Chinese are no longer the majority race in Penang, nonetheless Cina DAP will never accept a Malay as their CM.
“Rashid Hasnon is a flower pot” …in a pot full of manure, cow dung, chicken shit and dirt. And the Melayus in Pakatan smile gladly, took this token appointment…..aaaahhhh deja vu, Singapork in yesteryears
The cerdik pandai dan pedas like you should picturesic in penang politics come on la you talk about penang malays sejak ajali Chinese kuturunan dah di beri mandatory as the state leader dari Wong Pow Nee, Dr Lim Chong Eu and the great spoiler Khor Soo Khoon. Agihan adun seat enlarge semata-mata untuk komponen BN sahaja dimana the last pru 2004 gerakan dan mca killing each other for CM post, Cina mudah lupa kerajaan pusat gigih macam mana pun nama melayu CM susah cakap!
Siri,
I once read in STAR on weekly column by the late Tunku. He wrote on one incident before the election of 1959. MCA under Lim Chong Eu threatened to leave Perikatan if its request of 40 seats was not met(by UMNO).
Tunku responded that if MCA had wanted to leave, it can do so. No big deal. Tunku, though known to be jovial and less serious character, did know how to put thing into proper places.
And Tun Dr Mahathir once rejected MCA request for second Deputy Prime Minister post. And in states ruled by BN(meaning UMNO), the tradition is that there is no need for MCA or non malay as Timbalan Menteri Besar.
AND IT IS MYTH that Penang has Chinese majority. It ahs never been like that. The situation in Penang is unique as Malays in Penang unlike other states does not comprise minimum 50% of population. But neither does the Chinese.
So to say that a Malay cant become CM in Penang is misleading. In 1990, desspite portraying Guan Eng as Robocop. DAP though almost anihilated Gerakan in election failed to get the post as it was blocked by UMNO that won 14 out of 15 seats allocated to the party.
In other parts of the planet, the PM would simply choose UMNO as CM. Buit through to his Malay character of respecting chinese sentiment, Tun chose Koh Tsu Koon.
And 18 years later, tun learnt the hard way taht gratitude may mean nothing to Chinese voters inPenang
apa sudah jadi sekarang pada kerajaan pulau pinang? kita semua sedia maklum, dah terang pasang spotlight lagi. he deserves it.
Kampung lad,
Yup. The post of Penang Deputy chif minister was created by Tun to appease UMNO that was upset when TUn decided to give the post of Penang Chief minister though UMNO had teh right to the post.
hehe kan melayu suka kongsi2. inilah antara kelemahan melayu; baik tak kena tempat, garang pun tak kena tempat, same difference- merugikan. (mentioned this before).
it is true. if I m not mistaken Ibrahim saat was then appmted as d dep CM. In fact being d confidant of AI he became d d factor CM.
koh soo koon wil shudder when he hears AI’s name being mention. this was told 2 me personally by Ibrahim saat . so my friend really had a field day.
I was also a board member of PDC representing d treasury. (AI was than d min of finance). d CM than wld alwas solicit my views b4 making d final decision thinking that I also represented AI.
DCMs after Ibrahim saat is just like d present three DCMs. they r there largely 2 warm their seats.
This deputy CM is the best example of malays in Penang. They have no qualm surrendering thier honor and integrity for the sake of few RMs. Jeff Ooi used to call them ‘kucing kurap’ and yet their response was very mild. It dissapeared altogether when DAP announced RM100 hand-out to all working class in Penang.
I hv met yab d kasnon personally in his komtar office. in fact he was a govt sponsored student when I was d education attaché in d UK.
I find him 2 b quite honest simple n straight forward. since all important port folios r vested wth d CM, he has very little discretionary powers. it wil remain that way 4 as long as LGE helms d state..
it is in a way a trade off wth PKR in Selangor.
not many r aware that d ‘undang2 tubuh selangor’ does not prohibit a non malay from being d MB of Selangor . his highness d sultan cannot object wthout any valid reasons. this was conveyed 2 me by a proff on constitional law. so selangorians b prepared 4 d unthinkable.
the sultan has absolute power to appoint/choose his menteri besar. dah berlaku di perlis & ganu. di selangor, wawi kena reject.
d litmus test wil b ge14.
I m just stating d facts. pas, pkr n amanah must take note n b vigilant.
lets make Jakarta as n example. BJP ( ahok) is Chinese Christian but gets overwhelming support from d jakartans who r mostly muslims.
he has established himself 2 b as n efficient, no nonsence, n incorruptible administrator. he is LKY in d making n has made it clear of his intention 4 d presidential candidate after jokowi.
2 d Chinese community both in Indonesia n Malaysia political funds d least of their problems.
kita lihat lah apa akan terjadi d hari2 mendatang.
selepas MB Selangor ,jangan terkejut jika kita akan berada d bawah naungan PM tionghua pula nanti.
perlembagaan persekutuan sama sekali tidak melarang.
yes pompuan pun bole jadi pm. di indonesia, agama duduk kat belakang.
not quite accurate. pres jokowi in his nuzul al Koran speech said very clearly that d administration under him will b guided by d holy Koran.
how I wish our ‘supreme’ leader can honestly make d same pronouncement.
kat Malaysia pun serupa. ts rafidah yg d kenal sebagai ‘iron lady’ pernah d sebut2 sebagai PM ‘material’. lihat saja d Bangladesh. Negara itu tlh d pimpin olih 2 Begum ie khalida n hasina sejak bertahun tahun. ia nya tiada kaitan langsung dgn agama.
mengapa ia nya tidak berlaku?
soalan itu harus d tujukan kpd tun m kerana dia saja yg mampu menjawab.
adakah sama pemerintahan negara sekular (indonesia) berlandaskan alquran dgn yg konon2nya fundamental islamic state yg diwarwarkan satu donia tapi kelam kabut.
pemerintahan dibeberapa negara eropah walaupun tidak berlandaskan alquran tapi menepati nilai2 islam.
btw, berapa tahun dah jadi presiden, baru nak cakap akan buat.
cakap politik.
utk makluman tuan saya berpendpt bahawa malaysia juga adalah negara sekular.
pres jokowi tlh menjadi ketua Negara kurang lebih 2 tahun. utk mengetahui pendirian /world outlook nya kita perlu lihat rekam jejak nya.
sebelum itu beliau adalah wali kota solo n gov Jakarta.
saya perhatikan bahawa beliau amat dekat sekali dgn pimpinan2 NU n Mohamdiyah. beliau tlh membuat deklarasi kpd umum. kita lihat sahaja sama ada ia d kotakan.
buat pertama kali beliau tlh mendorong menteri2 nya membayar zakat n fitrah d istana senayan bersama sama nya.
ini adalah satu tindakan yg amat bijak kerana Tiada Sesiapa Yg Berani Membohongi Allah swt.
BJP (ahok) seorang Kristian tlh terikut ikut n turut membayar zakat sebanyak 50 juta rupiah. saya tidak terkejut jika ahok akan turut mendorong peg2 Islam echelon tinngi DKI nya membayar zakat bersama nya d hari2 mendtg.
rakyat Malaysia harus mendesak pemimpin2 islam ( terutama ds najib) mereka turut berbuat sedemikian.
Kampong lad,
No. The Sultan does not have the absolute power to appoint a MB.
In Malaysian scenario, in states won by BN, the PM would choose the MB and forward the name for “perkenan diraja”. That explains why Then Sultan of Selangor ,though very upset with Muhammad Taib for secretly marrying His Highness daughter, was unable to appoint a new MB.
For states like Trengganu where the sultan Of Trengganu rejected Idris Jusoh, the weakness of then PM was very glaring. Abdullah Badawi should use the “pertemuan 4 mata” so well known and well used by his predecessor, Tun Dr Mahathir. Tun Dr Mahathir would solve the issue by meeting the Sultan. What conspire between Pm and Sultan are only known to them.
But to say the Sultan has absolute power to choose the MB is wrong
the should world and the real world are 2 diff things & don’t ever underestimate their discretionary power. dlm kes selangor, pakar2 perlembagaan sangat yakin yg wawi akan dilantik sbg menteri besar. kita semua tahu siapa yg menang. ini dah jadi sejarah.
kampung lad,
The discretionary power no doubt does exist. as an example, if the sovereign Sultan objects to his territory being changed to be Federal territory, then his decision cant be questioned.
But when it comes to choosing the Menteri Besar, the role is to give “perkenan”. Meaning to give blessing to the name submitted to him
‘to give blessing to the name submitted to him’
ini bukan cerita 1,400 thn dulu. the sultan requested more than 2 names for him to perkenan despite pakatan’s obvious choice.
let me guess…this prof in constii is called aziz bari…uwekkk.
unfortunately not d right person. his opinion has been sought after by both parties. good guest anyway.
Flower pot? More like pissing pot! As an addendum, even when gerakan was the cm, orang Melayu were never treated well.
beg 2 differ. under gerakan orang melayu UMNO all were laughing 2 d bank. some secretly still do after being forced 2 play ball by d DAP. but now it is only ‘grinning’ to d bank.
my friend zulkifli who has since left d DAP has loads more info 2 share.
Kampung kami pun oghang Melayu UMNO juga. Mungkin pasai ramai mencebur diri dalam dunia business so tak kira la Gerakan, UMNO, Pakatan ke .. tiap malam sejak dulu laughing kat ATM mesin macam biasa aje? Ada yang muda2 dah pandai menjana RM20K satu bulan, takyah tunggu sampai pencen baru nak rasa duit bulan2 masuk macam tu!
So jangan dok gunapakai nama “Melayu UMNO” sewenang2nya bole tak?. Anak2 Melayu UMNO sekarang terutama generasi muda bukan macam oghang zaman2 dulu lagi tau. Tolong celik sikit mata..
u may b right. but I know 4 a fact that almost all r totally dependent on d fed govt projects in Penang n PW. opportunities from d state govt n d municipalities r also available but they r far in between. further more if there any availanble, d malays from PAS n PKR wil recieve preference.
after d defeat of UMNO/BN in Penang,a group of malays that r DAP friendly decided 2 organize d malay businessmen under one banner named Persatuan Kontraktor2 Melayu Pulau Pinang under d leadership of Sdr Rachmad. this was 2 replace d UMNO run Kesatuan Kontraktor2 Bumiputera P Pinang.
After hardly one yr d Perstuan had 2 cease operation due 2 lack of support from d state govt. d
Kesatuan is still in existence but had 2 rely entirely on fed govt projects which r becoming increasingly rare.
since i reckon u live in Penang, i suggest that u contact Sdr Rachmad to know more abt d pligfht of d malay businessmen there. i m afraid soon most may hv 2 migrate 2 UMNO/BN controlled states if d DAP is given another term 2 govern Penang. ‘charity begins at home’
may I propose 2 u that AGE is not at all d criteria that qualifies one 2 give what ever views. it is xperience n xposure that contribute 2wards d soundness of their considered opinions. tq.
.. it is xperience n xposure that contribute 2wards d soundness of their considered opinions….
I beg to differ. At least I see my kids, their friends and many young kids from my kampung are doing much better and very forward thinking and creative compared to those yg dah tua2 working dgn orang or gomen sampai pencen.
Their opinions are based on keadaan masakini dan berusaha utk menyesuaikan nasib masa depan mereka. Bukan depa peduli siPolan tu dah buat itu ini 10-40yrs ago, most of those ways dah obselete. Melayu kata lapuk!
Zaman sekarang dah canggih ya, their networking just like many of their parents, starts as early as 12yrs old.. dah dewasa .. …… worldwide.
Maybe tuan abdul rahman and many of yr kenalan spent most part of your life as a civil servant.. have you heard this phrase “9/10 daripada rezeki (datangnya) dari perniagaan?”
Alhamdulillah from what I see among my family and friends, cara pemikiran generasi muda kami sekarang jauh lebih maju.
This healthy exciting trend among our new generation is what the Apek Dapsters are getting so wollied. Yang jadi mangsa akhirnya adalah generasi muda mereka. They are proud producing new products like Alvin Tan and Namewee.. do you want our children to end up like them too?
