YB Taiping’s controversial Christian right Raya greeting

July 8, 2016 at 8:08 am 45 comments

DAP’s member of Parliament for Taiping David Nga Kor Ming uploaded the greeting below for Hari Raya. He is an evangelista, needless to say.

YB Nga’s message reads, “Video Aidilfitri: We serve to bless others, we are from the people, by the people & for the people. Selamat Hari Raya!”

Although he mentions Aidil Fitri as the intention, everything about his post is really American Bible Belt.

Christian fundamentalist theme

The image used by Nga is credited to Dr James Dobson, containing together with it Dobson’s organization logo and Dobson’s hashtag #YourLegacyMatters.

(1) Dr James Dobson is an American evangelical Christian leader. He’s best known as a famous and influential radio personality.

(2) The logo of Dobson’s Family Talk Christian ministry. can bee seen in Nga’s post.

familytalk logo

Family Talk mission statement:

“To help preserve and promote the institution of the family and the biblical principles on which it is based, and to seek to introduce as many people as possible to the gospel of Jesus Christ. Specifically, the focus of the ministry is on marriage, parenthood, evangelism, the sanctity of human life and encouraging righteousness in the culture.”

(3) The hashtag #YourLegacyMatters refers to Dobson’s body of published work, i.e.

Building A Family Legacy is a series of films, Bible studies and books designed to inspire parents to leave a priceless legacy of personal faith in Jesus Christ to their children, grandchildren… and to generations that follow.”

Source, http://www.drjamesdobson.org/resources/building-a-family-legacy-library

(4) Calling upon the “Lord” is invoking Jesus. It is Christian terminology although Nga’s message is ostensibly directed at Muslims on a special day in Islam.

(5) The phrase “guide our nation back to You” is a popular one in Christian prayer. What does Nga mean by praying to Lord Jesus that “our nation” (Malaysia) be guided back to “You” [Him]?

Malaysia is a Muslim country!

(6) What is the meaning of Nga displaying the American flag superimposed on the lighthouse (i.e. beacon / guiding light from God) imagery in his Facebook message?

Nga’s post is about “Selamat Hari Raya” wishes and the occasion is Aidil Fitri. So why does the message in his poster call for a return of the country [USA or Malaysia?] to the Christian godhead?

(7) Nga’s reference to “we are from the people, by the people & for the people” closely parallels the immortal line delivered by 16th American president Abraham Lincoln in his Gettysburg address — “government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth”.

prayer hands emoji

(8) The emoji above used by Nga in his FB poster shows a pair of hands clasped in Christian prayer. Muslims do not pray using this gesture.

(9) “In God We Trust” – which is the strap used by Nga above his praying hands emoticon – is most prominently displayed as the motto printed on the back of American currency notes (dollar bill).

Gospel of Prosperity, is it?

in God we trust money

(10) Nga also said, “We serve to bless others”, konon.

“Bless”? Provoke ada lah. This is not the first time that the DAP’s evangelista YBs are being provocative. Memang sengaja.

They call themselves Malaysian First but their frame of reference is the Christian right.

Their Red Bean Army see nothing wrong with Nga’s approach but can instead insist that those criticizing him are brainless and over-sensitive (see Lim Sian See’s take-down of the Dapsters in his FB).

Yes but he fails to say from which people, by which people and for which people.

    • 2. Blue  |  July 10, 2016 at 11:26 am

For which people? Of course the greetings are intended to muslim DAP supporters in Penang. As long as the ‘dedak’ keeps pouring, then this YB can do whatever he likes.

      • 3. grkumar  |  July 11, 2016 at 11:41 am

Thats an assumption you make. But I am prepared to concede it is closer to the way the DAP thinks in these matters.

  • 4. Setem  |  July 8, 2016 at 9:39 am

And you still address him as YB, Helen?

I rarely respect the elected DAPrick politicians, and I won’t even bother to address them as YB.

  • 5. oik65  |  July 8, 2016 at 9:59 am

Did you notice that in their report on this, The Star only showed the top half of the picture and never did mention the “Lord guide our nation back to you” bit?

The problem in this country is not so much religion, it is corruption. It does not matter what religion you profess, if you support a corrupt PM, you are a hypocrite.

    • 7. Mulan  |  July 8, 2016 at 1:11 pm

Is it OK to support a courupt pastor?
City Harvest Church of Singapore Pastors Sun Ho and husband Kong Hee are seen in this photo shared online by Kong on Aug. 31, 2013.

Singapore’s City Harvest Church, which recently celebrated its 27th anniversary, has seen its membership numbers drop for yet another year amid the ongoing trial and eight-year prison sentence, pending appeal, for founder and Senior Pastor Kong Hee.

saya masih bingung kerana masih terdapat ramai yg cuba ‘menegakan benang yg basah’ untuk mempertahankan tindakan2 najib yg jelas tlh mencerminkan kecuaian nya dlm melesapkan wang/khazanah Negara.

selaku anak kelahiran Pekan Pahang, saya tlh senentiasa mendoakan agar beliau menarajui Negara dgn penuh iltizam n tanggung jawab..

beliau berjaya sahingga lah apabila beliau d uji sebagai pemimpin utama Negara . isu 1MDB n cara utk melepaskan diri tlh mendorong saya utk membuat kesimpulan bahawa dia tlh kehilangan ‘moral legitamacy’ utk memimpin.

“the accomplice 2 d crime of corruption is frequently our own indifference” (Bess Myerson).

buat masa sekarang penumpuan terhadap pentadbiran Negara tlh menjadi lemah n kehilangan focus. keadaan saperti ini pernah d rumuskan olih Alexander The Great :-

“I m not afraid of n army lions led by a sheep ; I m afraid of n army of sheep led by a lion”

44 solid years dlm jabatan kerajaan dato buat apa?
Semua orang punya persepsi, bahawa pekerja kerajaan kebanyakkan bekerja seperti duduk diatas sampan yg menyusuri sungai. Paling teruk yg dah DG, kerju kurang, entertainment banyak…paling pandai mengabiskan duit jabatan. Hinggakan kursus nak ON kan computer pun kena buat kat luar negeri !!

  • 15. ONS  |  July 8, 2016 at 11:41 am

The way rhings are, it is difficult to imagine there is any sincerity in whatever things the dapsters are doing. Even religion could be used by such group as a means to an end.
Such bunch of people are seen are loafers who are trying to find a place on earth but every time their attempt misguides them further.
From a land up north they flee to a seemingly greener pasture. After 3-4 generations on a foreign lamd they still cld mot find peace and contention. To them, everyvody seems to be at fault no matter the native even God, their previous God, that they hv to find a new god fr themselves.
Looking at their physics, mongoloid-like one wonders wether they were descendants of the cursed, that everywhere they go they seemed to be cursed and ungrateful of their existence.

Same thing goes for political Islam. It subjugates women and turn the men into insecure liars.

      • 18. Helen Ang  |  July 8, 2016 at 6:39 pm

re: “It subjugates women and turn the men into insecure liars.”

I’m sure it is DAP politics that does the above.

        • 19. Formerly known as FHAAHD  |  July 9, 2016 at 2:31 am

And you honestly believe that Islam doesn’t do that? Get real for once and stop defending the indefensible. Why can’t UMNO and its goons (such as yourself) just answer the questions that are posed to them instead of constantly diverting to another party? Just shows what two faced hypocrites the whole of you are.DAP actually come across as fairly sincere in comparison

RINA, are you honestly telling me that Islam treats women fairly? You should take a trip to Saudi. I have spoken to many Malay women who would much rather marry men from other faiths if they were allowed to, simply due to the fact that they won’t have to share their husbands with three other women.

              • 22. Helen Ang  |  July 9, 2016 at 10:33 am

Have many Malay women do you actually know yang bermadu empat?

I jemput kamu semua to attend Agama classes to know more on Islam, taknak. Asyik merapu saja ni?

Amboi kenapa tak pasal2 you quote Saudi pulak sini? You kerap kunjungi negara tu ke yang tau sangat isi hati women kat sana?

  • 24. wawe  |  July 8, 2016 at 12:18 pm

The term used above does not necessaryly represent everyone from any particular group of people but especially relevant to the person being portrayed in this entry since this nga’s what-not image continuosly popped up while issuing this remark.

  • 25. Mulan  |  July 8, 2016 at 12:24 pm

This is not the only thing the Nga made fun off.

Even security at Najib’s Open House was poked fun off.
This Nga makes Christians look like provocative intolerant people. Just think of the recent drama the Christian did. Like Buks Pussa at church stunt. What is the motive?
Imagine other religions pulling such a stunt, how will Christians react? For example the reverse happens. Easter makan at a mosque. Or inviting Christians to celebrate hungry ghost etc. Do you think Christians will like it? Certainly not.
    Do not to others…

    • 26. RINA  |  July 8, 2016 at 1:47 pm

75K plus citizens including our leaders, foreign guests and with what just happened in Puchong the tightening of security was necessary and I don’t understand why this the moron should poke fun on.

The short videos of the arrival of guests at the Open house wr so beautiful, thousands of people from the various communities coming together to celebrate Hari Raya with our leaders.

Ayuh kita peghati dengan lebih teliti perangai2 huduh moron2 ni semua.. real trash dah naik mual dan menyampah …jangan kerana nila setitik, rusak susu sebelanga.

  • 27. Equalizer  |  July 8, 2016 at 12:57 pm

These DAP puppets will continue with their instigations and provocations with every opportunity. I would not call him stupid. I am sure he is a great pretender like most of the evangelistas.

Causing problems and chaos within a peaceful community will only benefit party like DAP and that’s why their MO is towards causing confrontations and damages and then blame, rather then sincere reparation of racial disharmony which is widening by their doings.

Never, and I mean NEVER did we ever hear their leaders come out and tell the people in general to work together towards a harmonious, peaceful Malaysia by giving their ideas and constructive criticisms. All we heard from their leaders are instigated hatred towards UMNO and BN in general and blame everything on the government with twisted facts and figures.

They portrayed themselves as perfect but their actions and deeds are very opposite of what they are. They send their goons and nincompoops to sabotage any blogs which criticized their leaders and the trouble is their RBAs are only good in using vulgar and dirty words. Scum leaders engage scums as RBAs.

  • 28. dato adbdul rahman b mohd noor  |  July 8, 2016 at 1:45 pm

my observation may b 2 over simplistic.

in d underworld there is such a thing as ‘turf war’. d Nga n Ngor pair were doing rather well when they were d d facto supremos in d Perak administration.

they r part of d DAP young turks. Lge controls d Penang govt n LKS n Tony Pua hv their grip firmly on d Selangor state govt.

we know that Ngor is very ambitious but has lost his turf which consequently led 2 his inability 2 build his war chest 2 challenge d other yg turks in d party.

he has a lot of idle time . out of frustration n being more or less sidelined he has become mischievous of late so as 2 gain attention. if he is not able 2 recapture Perak in GE 14 ,then he is history.

so for d time being just ignore him. if he becomes a real pain n creates unnecessary instability, then just detain him.

    • 29. trump  |  July 9, 2016 at 10:49 pm

shut up. I’ve never met any dato who is not mad at another politician because of he failed to get what he wants, hence your hatred towards Najib(you’re from Pekan right ?, I bet you have involved in all kind of corruptions with him or his cronies there). Don’t get me wrong, I HATE all politicians, and all Dato who knows a lot about politics are a corrupt lot just like those whom they accused of corruptions.

You sir is a corrupt dato with no substance…. and you sir are an RBA. Stop trying … (you know what)

        mr trump,

        fyi I m a retired civil servant having served in several depts./ministries 4 35 yrs. I had a stint as a diplomat 4 5 yrs.

I try 2 keep myself well informed even though I m not at all active politically.

there r essentially 4 catogeries of ‘datos’ :-

        1)civil servants;
        2)political operatives;
        3)palace officials
        4)public figures/businessmen.

        I happened 2 belong 2 d first catogery.

yes I m Pekan born but never got my education n never served there. I used 2 b proud 2 hv a Pekan MP 2 lead this country but not anymore.

eventhough he does not know me,I was willing him 2 succeed. but after d 1MDB expose’ i personally feel that he needs 2 abdicate 4 he has lost d moral legitimacy 2 govern. and as a concerned citizen I hv every right 2 demand accountability n transparency.

not withstanding yr unsubstantiated accusation, I will contd 2 offer my views in this blog n u r welcome 2 respond in any way u want. there is a saying that “we shld judge a man by his question n assertions rather than his answers”

hope my reply has cleared some misconception.

Whats wrong with you ? Mr. Abdul explains himself well, without you drooling yourself licking every single dato/datuk/tan’s/tuns ass that you can befriend with.

So which horse do you place your bet on ?

    • 33. shamshul anuar  |  July 9, 2016 at 11:31 pm

      Abdul Rahman,

No. We cant ignore him. We have to be firm with that guy. And that will send the message to DAP.

      • 34. dato adbdul rahman b mohd noor  |  July 10, 2016 at 2:17 am

yes only when he has bcome a real menace . in d mean time he is simply seeking attention n creating mischief.

they ( nga n ngor) had some good arrangements wth d Kelantan govt bfore but I suspect that it may hv gone sour. Opportunities in Perak under d BN govt r almost non existent.

u will not go far in politics if u do not hv sufficient resources . d phrase ‘cash is king’ is very true indeed.

  • 35. wawe  |  July 8, 2016 at 2:53 pm

This Ngangok thing does not actually have his own opinion and principle. He simply cedok any tom dick and harry porter verses, in the hope he’d look and sound more on the brainier side, like the mat saleh he so like to emulate, hoping again he’d upgrade his outlook and profile which is sadly and seriously lacking.
Grow up la, yb ngangok watave. The approach this kind of dapster is utilising is so pathetic to the point of disgusting the parliment as a whole.

BTW. Read this blog by shuzheng who says ___ is Jesus

(PS I know that the bad blood between you two)

This shows how much religion is used in the syiah DAP and RBA. No person would dare compare themselves to Jesus or Buddha and claim merits.

Lim Guan Eng, 2010, preaching to the flock in Sibu:

Jesus was crucified and was forsaken. I was in jail for things I didn’t do and many times I also felt forsaken. But by the miracle of god, here I’m. I remember the words of Jesus. The First shall be Last, the Last shall be First. I was in jail but now I’m chief minister of Penang.
