Easier just to execute.
If the political prisoners are to be kept in jail for years, then expenses incurred from having to feed them would stack up. So it’s really more expedient to carry out the death penalty.
It will save a lot on food bill.
The above was an explanation provided by president of Turkey, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, on why he wants capital punishment for coup plotters to be reintroduced in his country.
In an exclusive interview with CNN, Erdogan said plotters of the July coup d’etat against him “will pay a heavy price for this act of treason”. The president wants the death sentence for the traitors.
Interestingly, close to 34,000 criminals have been released from Turkey’s prisons so that their cells can be freed to lock up the coup detainees, Al-Jazeera reported on Friday.
So far more than 17,000 people related to the coup have been formally arrested to face trial, added the broadcaster.
In the immediate aftermath of the failed coup
- More than 100 Turkish generals and admirals were arrested
- 6,000 military personnel purged
- 9,000 police officers detained/dismissed
- 3,000 judges suspended/sacked
- 30 governors fired
The crackdown by Erdogan was massive, to say the least.
43,000 Turks fired from their jobs over the coup
Turkey is still in the midst of its three-month state of emergency.
“The Turkish government’s Official Gazette has announced that nearly 43,000 people have been expelled from their jobs in public institutions for alleged ties to terror organizations endangering national security,” according to an AP news agency report two days ago.
“Lists of names and positions published Thursday show the widescale purge Turkey has undertaken since the failed coup of July 15.”

There is a time to cast away, a time to rend, a time to hate and a time of war, the Bible teaches us — watch in the video above.
It is suspected that there was a western hidden hand behind the Turkish coup. What’s happening now in Turkey is the Clash of Civilizations.
Thereafter the EU can reject Turkey’s application to join their union by citing human rights abuses.
