If Jabatan Agama could clarify whose permission to wear tudung

‘Siti Hasmah: My husband forbids me from wearing tudung’ is the most read headline in Malaysiakini at the present moment.

“I don’t wear tudung until today,” the news portal reports Tun M’s wife Siti Hasmah as saying.

“My husband forbids me from wearing tudung. Before one wears tudung, she must ask for her husband’s permission,” she told a press conference at a symposium ‘Siti Hasmah: Wanita pencorak masa depan negara’ in Bukit Damansara.

That’s real interesting, what Siti Hasmah is telling the country.

Going by her logic that a female Muslim requires a husband’s permission first before donning the tudung, what about the millions of unmarried but tudung-wearing schoolgirls in Malaysia then?

BELOW: Mr Yeoh obviously consents

  1. IN THE PLACE IS HELEN ENG A MUSLIM. IF NOT AND YOU WANT TO UNDERSTAND WHY MUSLIMAH NEED TO WEAR THE TUDUNG, THAN YOU NEED TO LEARN ISLAM. Your sample of SITI HASMAH IS A KIND OF PERSON WHO WILL ASK THE “DEVIL” weather she should comply a religious obligation.Than u should no the answer.

    1. Oh please……instead of shutting people down with a lame line “YOU NEED TO LEARN ISLAM”, can you please explain the rational behind this ruling? Don’t come back with crap like ‘cos GOD said so…..i need the actual reasoning and how it contributes……..

  2. If you need an answer, then it is up to the father. However there is a need to emphasise that women do not need consent from anyone to practice islam. If the husband/father prohibit her from solat, she need not heed. Stop her from fasting during Ramadan, she need not heed and so on and so forth. Instead it will become the wife/child responsibility to do the best she can to rectify her husband/father understanding of islam.
All i am saying here is, adik adik, please please please do not take example from siti hasmah or his husband in this tudung issue. They might be sucessful in other matters but evidently ignorant in matters relating to islam. And please do not think that sleeping with dogs amount to following “Pemuda Al Kahfi”…that is just a display of miseducation and absolutely the parents(and the grandparents, perhaps) fault for neglecting religious education. Ahh.. The things money cant buy…

  3. I wonder what Rosmah’s response will be when asked why she is not wearing the tudung.

Maybe she would answer, “I don’t listen to my husband”.

  4. Hello everyone, I’m back by popular demand, miss me? I notice we Atheists are on the news lately. Good, we could use the free publicity.

I don’t know what all the fuss is about… non-malay atheists are already out in the open, you know a few by now. As for malay atheists, they’re still in the closet but… maybe not for long. I dare say their numbers could be in the tens of thousands and in time it will grow…

    Come out and play…

    1. Yo man….enjoy the posts M’sia Atheist fb page…..especially the animation on god and jeffrey the angel….that’s funny …..as much as i enjoy the funny posts, i would not encourage posts that demean a religion (think those are in the international fb page) – it just pictures you guys are just the same as religious dudes…..we gotta respect others as how we want to be respected. I know It’s hard being an atheist and live good when you are not bribed with good afterlife…… anyway, cheers to you, man…

        1. I am far from offended……just saying it gives you guys a bad image ………take it or leave it……basically, i don’t care, if some atheist wanna be seen as stupid as some religionists…..i just enjoy reading funny, logic and constructive posts

          1. Fb posts, internet memes, youtube videos, comments etc. If it hurts your feelings then just don’t read/watch it… at least that is all they do. However, some “religionists” will mow you down with a truck while yelling.,,.. so please don’t equate us to them.

  5. Ms H. This woman in question has an over-blown sense of proportion concerning her lowly status. She has begun giving advice to our Prime Minister how to form his Cabinet whilst conveniently forgetting that she is not in Power as well ! That is the trouble with some Chinese in the Opposition !

  6. Ms H. Has this Woman with her airy-fairy head committed blasphemy on both sides of the religious divide ?

  7. Pn.Helen kenapa belum update lagi pasal BN,PH,PAS ? tak lama lagi PRU 14! tak sabar nak dapat info pasal parti-parti tu!

  8. You again like to go for personal attacks. Old habits dies hard. What he/she do is his/her personal matter and is between him/her with Allah, God and Tuhan.

Always attack people personal matter, er… your neighbour can tahan you or not?

    1. From what Siti Hasmah told the press conference, she did not have her own personal choice in the matter.

Se claimed that Dr M forbade her to wear (so her ‘no tudung’ is Dr M’s decision) and regardless of her own wishes in the matter, she complied in order to obey her husband.

Hence in what should have been a personal matter between Siti Hasmah and God, Dr M jadi orang tengah dan batu penghalang.
