The Umno DNA lives on and on and on, a former MP of the party told a public forum yesterday.
Tawfik, who is the son of the late Tun Dr Ismail (DPM, 1970-73), talked about the continuation of Umno genes in the present pedigreed Malay parties, FMT reported.
“By absorbing Umno members, you get the ghosts of Umno haunting you,” he gravely told Parti Pribumi.
Tawfik Ismail – the Sg. Benut ex-Umno MP (1986-1990) – is of course correct.
BELOW: One photo is of Mahathir at the 2015 Umno general assembly and the other is taken of him at the 2017 Pribumi AGM. Can you tell which is which?
Answer: The hand-kissing photo (left) is the one taken at the Pribumi convention in end-December 2017.
The ghost of Umno lingers like an astral projection surrounding the party’s former presidents.
Below are pictures of Mahathir and Najib doing their Drama Minggu Ini audition at the party’s PWTC tribal pow-wow.
Same, same method of emoting – as you can see.
It is difficult to tell which is the shell (emptied out) party since Mahathir too is himself confused. Is it Pribumi that’s a mere shell hosting the Umno ghost?
At the Pribumi annual gathering a fortnight ago – video below – Mahathir misspoke and accidentally addressed his party members as Umno people. Face palm, and not the first time he made the subconscious slip either.
Aside from Pribumi’s schizophrenia, Pakatan Harapan itself is another manifestation of the impossibility of change. Tak ada apa yang ‘Ubah’ pun.
Crumbs from the master’s table
The role of DAP in the ruling coalition is merely replicating the MCA, and a poor man’s imitation at that. From the DAP’s lack of a presence in the Harapan line-up, this MCA 2.0 clone is undoubtedly no better than a castrated chihuahua.
Although DAP has the second highest cohort of MPs, its 95-percent-Chinese strength size is not reflected in cabinet positions nor MB/chief ministerships (for which Pribumi and PAN grabbed the lion’s share).

Within the coalition structure itself, Pribumi is heading the Youth and Women wings: Pribumi’s Rina Harun (pix below) is the Wanita Harapan deputy chief.
DAP has triple Pribumi’s number of MPs yet Dapsy chief Howard Lee is still required to be second banana to Syed Saddiq – The Anointed One.
Former Umno Youth chief Khairy, when he was head of BN Youth, used to be a real arsehole but this little twat Saddiq as Ketua Pemuda Harapan is many times worse.
Like Umno in BN, Pribumi in Harapan always has to come first.
Umno’s bossiness was at least slightly more palatable as it had by far the most MPs whereas Pribumi is lagging behind in voter support but nonetheless bent on bossing the bigger Harapan components.
