This is the very first Chinese New Year that the (konon) corruption-free Dapsters will be celebrating where Umno is not in federal power. Such a fact is a cause for great celebration.
According to the Chinese zodiac, 2019 is the Year of Earth Pig. Taking a cyclic spin back a full dozen years, 2007 was the Year of Fire Pig.
When BN was ruling the country in 2007, pig decorations were able to seen adorning public and commercial buildings. But as I’ve alluded to in my previous post, the CNY pig is however largely missing from the malls today in DAP’s New Malaysia.
Why Dapsters are deranged
DAP has relentlessly slammed the past 60 years of BN rule as one rife with corruption.
Yet consider this, one-third of the BN era was under Mahathir’s premiership; he was PM from 1981 to 2003 — 22 years all told.
• Our first PM Tunku Abdul Rahman was definitely not corrupt. The Kedah prince famously contributed his own personal fortune to bring up the fledging Malay party, Umno, of which he was president.
• Second PM Tun Razak was renowned for his probity and thriftiness.
• Third PM Tun Hussein Onn was just plain squeaky clean — the ‘Honest Abe’ of Malaysia.
It is the consensus of political observers – including Kit Siang and the (pre-GE14) DAP itself – that the rot only began with fourth PM Mahathir’s reign.
Mahathir was the individual most responsible for poisoning the system but DAP is selling him as the antidote to “Save Malaysia”. …Duh.

Back to the future: Returning to the 1980s
The pop culture definition of ‘insanity’ is to do the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.
It is quite insane to repeat the one-strongman, authoritarian rule we suffered all through the 80s and 90s, and hoping for Mahathirism 2.0 to yield a different outcome.
The Mahathir-Harapan administration thus far is a deja vu experience of his post-1969 Malay Dilemma for us who are not millennials but among those old enough to remember.
Last week (Jan 28), human rights activist Dr Kua Kia Soong published an article ‘It’s time Dr M differentiates Jews from Zionists’ – excerpts of which I’m reproducing below – that illustrates this Mahathir redux phenomenon.
Dr Kua begins his observation of our second-time PM:
”Those who have followed his political career will note the continuity in his ethos …”
True. Mahathir-Harapan is nothing but a continuation of Mahathir-BN.
To quote Dr Kua’s words:
”In the decades since, Mahathir has continued to resort to racial chauvinism whenever popular support has ebbed, stirring anxiety about Chinese investment and immigration following disappointing electoral showings in 2008 and 2013. He castigated Najib for ‘giving too much to the Chinese’ after the disastrous GE13 results.”

Dr Kua wrote too that Mahathir’s 1969 magnum opus – a book banned by the Tunku government – carried an “unashamedly racist paradigm”.
Note that Mahathir, an Umno Young Turk, was considered too extreme for his party even back then and expelled by Tunku.
Referring to the success (“an instant hit”) of Malay Dilemma, Dr Kua said:
“It was the time-tested recipe for opportunistic politicians to use ‘race’ as the rallying cry for political support just as Hitler’s racist polemic, Mein Kampf had provided the model for such a political route”.
Has Mahathir’s politics changed any since his Dilemma “racist polemic” period?
Consider this: The Mahathir-Harapan administration has refused to sign the International Convention on the Eradication of Racial Discrimination (Icerd). What does that tell you?

Dr Kua Kia Soong reminds us, moreover, how in his Malay Dilemma masterpiece, Mahathir had written “the Jews are not merely hook-nosed, but understand money instinctively”.
The PM – presently propped up by the kononnya race-blind DAP – “was not embarrassed about repeating this [mercenary trope] recently on international cable TV”.
“But why is Mahathir so recalcitrant about his blatantly racist attitude towards Jewish people as an ethnic community?” Dr Kua wants to know.
His curiosity is voiced against the backdrop of a condemnation by the Israeli government of Mahathir’s “rabid anti Semitism” after Putrajaya slapped a ban on the Jewish state’s paralympic swimmers. This led the international media to recall that Mahathir is an ”avowed and virulent anti Semite”.
Dr Kua also admonished Mahathir that it is mischievous to conflate Jews with Zionists, “just as it is wrong to say that ‘all ethnic Chinese in Malaysia are rich’.”
Mahathir’s view of the Jews has clearly not Ubah since his Dilemma days. Has his entrenched opinion of the Chinese changed any?

Dr Kua further wrote:
”Much of Mahathir’s portrayal of Chinese Malaysians echoes his stereotypical anti-Semitic slurs. In his Malay Dilemma, Mahathir describes Malaysia’s Chinese as “predatory immigrants” who exhibit an “unlimited acquisitiveness” that threatens the “complete Sinicization of the economy.”
“They are mistrusted as disloyal and mercenary, enriching themselves at the expense of the country’s other communities. Has he ever shown remorse and rectified his racist thesis in the Malay Dilemma?”
Dr Kua asked above if Mahathir has ever rectified his racist Dilemma thesis.
The answer is an unequivocal ‘No’ but this has not stopped Dapsters from assiduously licking the boots of “beloved Tun” for their taste of the best CNY ever.
