Some liberal ideologues are obsessive-compulsive and reflexive when banging on and on about the supposed
“toxic religiosity” of the state religion in Malaysia.
They’re laser fixated on the religiosity in Islam, PAS and the flavour of the month — the Seri Petaling tabligh people.
The micro objects of their fixation are Zakir Naik, the Harapan “religious czar” (who formerly headed Islamic Affairs in Putrajaya) and now further extending to this month’s target of mockery — the Women and Family Development Ministry.

Harapan cheerleaders insist that “toxic religiosity” is the one idea that does the most damage to our efforts combating Covid-19.
But these secular foghorns only see the religiosity of the tabligh gathering and missing the mass assembly of the charismatic megachurches. A cluster of church leaders in Damansara had in fact tested corona positive as late as March twenty.
Many see the Masjid Jamek tabligh participants as irresponsibly endangering other Malaysians.
Few however cared to note the irresponsibility of DAP’s Christian MPs – one of them tested corona positive – who sucked up close and personal (in blatant disregard of the ‘social distancing’ prohibition) to 95-year-old Mahathir when only a day earlier, the World Health Organization had officially sounded a global “pandemic” alarm.

Harapan cheerleaders see toxic religiosity in the political Islam of PAS but overlook toxic religiosity in the political Christianity of DAP.
The present Women and Family Development Deputy Minister, Siti Zailah, is a PAS ustazah. Her predecessor in the Ministry, Hannah Yeoh is DAP’s preeminent lay preacher; her party has additionally other prominent lay preachers.
PAS and DAP are really mirror images.
