Kit Siang channeling China’s Covid propaganda

With the DAP, politics is everything and everything is politics. Even coronavirus deaths are not beyond being opportunistically politicized. What a cheap way to try and score political points.

Latest is the wishful insistence by Kit Siang yesterday that Harapan could have handled the pandemic better — see Malay Mail report below.

Oh really? Kit Siang accused “the Muhyiddin government had at first mishandled the Covid-19 pandemic, causing a second wave of Covid-19 outbreak in March”.

How so “mishandled”? In relation to coronavirus, DAP faults the Sheraton Move on account of its disruptive timing but has nothing to say about Anwar’s Le Meridien Move or the sudden move by Shafie Apdal to dissolve the Sabah DUN.

Kit Siang would be more honest to mention that the Harapan government collapse was not triggered by Umno but instead effected by his coalition’s then chairman Mahathir, who still remains a DAP ally.

Kit Siang‘s claim that Harapan would have better handled the pandemic is similar to the delusion of American Democrats whose own leaders in the big blue states allowed Covid-19 to spread, with New York (state) governor Andrew Cuomo and New York City mayor Bill de Blasio most culpable.

A directive in March that forced nursing homes to admit people who had already tested positive was “probably the deadliest decision ever made in New York State history”, said an assemblyman from New York‘s Queens district.

In their most recent spat reported yesterday, the New York Democratic governor even wants to take action against the NYC Democratic mayor — see ‘Cuomo threatens to fine de Blasio over Covid-19 enforcement as outbreak worsens’ (New York Post).

Also refer report, ‘New York and California may have already achieved herd immunity, data scientist says’. (Note: Democrat-controlled California is the state with the most coronavirus infections in the USA at 820,000 cases.)

BELOW: The real facts on Trump’s overall fairly competent handling of the pandemic

Control measures over the pandemic in the USA come under individual state jurisdiction and cannot be blamed squarely on President Trump (which Joe Biden and his Democrats have disingenuously done).

Whether there is a lockdown, when the lockdown was first imposed as well as strictness and duration of any lockdowns were determined individually by each of the 50 American states and not by the White House.

Over in Malaysia, Kit Siang now alleges that the Sheraton Move and Sabah election sparked two subsequent waves of Covid-19. He even dubs the federal/state government takeovers as the “Original Sin of Malaysia’s [public health] crisis” — see above his press statement today.

As to be expected from a Chinese chauvinist, Kit Siang eagerly credits China’s (actually opaque) ‘success’ in containing the pandemic, rebooting its economy and reopening the public space.

In contrast, Kit Siang was almost gloating over the President catching ‘kung flu’ – a Trump word to taunt the virus’ Wuhan epicentre – while repeating the American media lie that he had in mind “injecting patients with bleach”.

BELOW: Covid or no Covid, Kit Siang just sore that the parliament session was cut short, and now complaining that Muhyiddin is “using the pandemic to emasculate and marginalise Parliament”

The DAP supremo sounds like a China Communist Party (CCP) mouthpiece when touting that Malaysia should “learn from the best lessons in the world in the battle against Covid-19 epidemic“.

Moreover Kit Siang’s evidence-free hot take – “The true death toll and number of cases are likely to be significantly higher due to differing definitions and testing rates, delays and suspected underreporting” – i.e. suggesting that the American scenario is actually worse than hitherto acknowledged could well be propaganda borrowed from the CCP myth makers.

What Kit Siang voiced was mere supposition. We could easily argue the converse — that the USA’s ‘true death toll and number of cases are likely to be significantly LOWER due to differing definitions and testing rates, outdated parameters and suspected OVERreporting deriving from the incentive of Covid medical insurance claims.

Under its emergency federal stimulus package, the American government agreed to pay hospitals that treat uninsured patients who have Covid-19. Therefore hospitals have more incentivie to overreport rather than “underreport” (which is Kit Siang’s speculation) any suspected coronavirus cases for which they will be reimbursed by the U.S. Treasury.

Kit Siang making lip-smacking noises to capitalize on the overnight publicity surrounding the world’s most famous new Covid-19 patient – Trump is currently hospitalized – is very much one of a piece with the pro-China fanboys in Malaysiakini celebrating and wishing death and suffering on The Donald and Melania.

  1. Yes. Easy for Kit Siang to criticise but WTF would a Pakatan government do to handle the difficult and challenging COVID-19 crisis in Malaysia?

The DG of health has done a good job in the face of an unseen enemy for which a vaccine has only recently been released for public use in limited quantities – what! conjure up an effective vaccine or anti-viral like a magician?

How differently does Kit Siang propose the government should deal with the COVID-19 crisis?

OK. Whatever happens after the Le Meridien move – another disruptive change of government, an early GE15, and how will it affect measures to contain the COVID-19 crisis?

Whatever, we will be adversely affected but whatever, so be it:-
