Marina Mahathir, Siti Kasim, Zainah Anwar dan rakan-rakan sewaktu dengan mereka just released a press statement on the kalimah Allah issue.
In one part, the Marina et al statement said:
“Bahasa Melayu had already become the lingua franca for native groups like Iban, Bidayuh, Orang Ulu, Melanau, Kadazan-Dusun and Murut, even before the arrival of Christianity.”
So, the Iban have long adopted BM as their lingua franca, we’re told today by the Old Man’s daughter & her gang.
And the Bidayuh have embraced BM too. Similarly it is the common language for the Orang Ulu, Melanau, Kadazan-Dusun and Murut.
In the peninsula, Indians can speak bahasa Melayu as well.
It would seem that the only group to reject speaking BM (with an acceptable level of competency) is the Cina DAP.
That’s because they can get their little Melayu brother in Umno to speak Chinese instead.
