If it had been a DAP leader who said “We’re family” when visiting China

All hell would break loose among critics of the party.

DAP Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng is right to blast Hishammuddin Hussein for his bizarre remarks to the latter’s counterpart, China Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

The DAP lawmaker also questioned why no Umno or PAS leader has yet reacted to Hisham addressing Wang Yi as our “big brother”.

He asked what if the remarks had instead been made by Lim Guan Eng or Anthony Loke (and uttered on Chinese soil, to boot) when both had been Harapan cabinet ministers.

Imagine LGE gesturing to the China FM and saying, ” 我 的 大 哥 ” like Hisham did.

Or chubby Anthony telling his China hosts ” 我们都是一家人 ” what like Hisham did.

If either LGE or Anthony had done anything like that, DAP would have been accused of trying to turn Malaysia into China’s 20th province.

Coming from a Malay politician,“Wo men dou shi yi jia ren” (We’re one family) – first mouthed by Anwar, then copied by Syed Saddiq – is the most mindless kind of multiracial pablum.

This same line, however, were it to come from the mouth of a Cina DAP leader on a China visit, would be loaded enough to have set off a nuclear explosion.

Remember the brouhaha we made when DAP’s Hew Kuan Yau said the South China Sea belonged to China?
