A tale of two First Ladies and their boutique apparel

Malaysiakini columnist Mariam Mokhtar talked today about the use of tudung “as a political tool, to manipulate the masses”.

Several of the Malaysiakini subscribers commenting on her article predictably criticized Rosmah Mansor for not wearing tudung.

Well, the reason could be that the PM’s wife is not herself a politician. After all, as Mariam avers about the tudung, “its use [is] as a political tool, to manipulate the masses”.

But guess which politician often wears tudung for her photo ops?

Yup, it’s Hannah

Will any tudung-ed woman ever object to strengthening syariah?

Err, “the manipulated masses” who unwittingly became political stage props?

“#Thoughts & Prayers” for all those perpetually enraged people

A Subang Jaya municipal council enforcement officer was (pepper?) sprayed in the eyes by the driver/passenger of a Honda City on Tuesday. The car had been clamped for parking outside a restaurant during lunch hour.

The assailants, a man and his wife, are now wanted by police to be investigated for assault. See Nov 8 story ‘Polis buru suami isteri kasari penguat kuasa MPSJ’ in Utusan.

This particular area coming under Subang Jaya jurisdiction has the highest density of evangelical churches. It is also the same area which every now and then is reported in the news for incidents of road rage, i.e. motorists threatening the traffic authorities.

Kung Fu Fighting

The Subang Jaya state assemblywoman cum Selangor Speaker should consider setting up a Peace and Harmony Centre specially to counsel her always angry people with the hair-trigger temper.

Since she herself is so super duper religious, an outreach programme under such a proposed centre to promote spiritual calm and feelings of peace and harmony among her constituents (those who drive) could be coupled with pastoral care.

These temperemental foodies need to be taught and guided that “sabar itu separuh daripada iman”. And that there is the civilized option of paying a fine to unclamp your wheel.

The miseducation of Dr Kua Kia Soong

“How ironic, that an Operasi Lalang victim like Kua Kia Soong is derided as being ‘naïve’, ‘vengeful’ and ‘makan dedak’ whenever he writes of the need for Mahathir to face up to his political sins,” wrote columnist Josh Hong in Malaysiakini yesterday.

Leading Chinese educationist Dr Kua was a one-term DAP Petaling Jaya MP in the 1990s. He is also a former ISA detainee whom Tun Mahathir, as PM cum Home Minister, had locked up in Kamunting for 445 days. You really can’t blame the PJ PhD doctor if he should feel sinned against by the Alor Setar medical doctor. (more…)

Penang’s botak hills and mushrooming high-rises on slope

I left Penang some 10 years ago. Despite the time and separation of distance, it was still distressing to see the landslide in Tanjung Bungah − practically in my old neighbourhood.

The location where it happened is familiar in memory to me although with the passing of my mom (and recently my dog), my ties with Penang are now rather tenuous.

Nonetheless it’s mind-boggling – looking on from the outside – how the state government approved the building of those two 50-storey (!) residential blocks where the landslide happened.

Refer to my previous posting to see an artist’s impression of the towering twin condos. Do check out what the experts have to say but to my untrained eye, the very tall buildings sure look precarious to be perched on that particular spot.

Tanjung Bungah Adun Teh Yee Cheu has revealed that at least 18 high-rise residential projects between Tanjung Bungah and Batu Ferringhi are in various stages of being approved, an NST report said on Monday.

Seven of the project sites are on risky hillslopes − see also the video below.

Guan Eng’s bad karma will rub off on his fan base

I cannot understand why Penangites still keep giving the dog killer Guan Eng administration a free pass. Back in July 2012, I’d blogged ‘Sitting on a landbank goldmine in Penang hill$’. It was already an open issue more than five years ago.

If only we (Chinese) can be a little bit more objective, we would acknowledge how the Christian DAP is hurting our Buddhist/Taoist community. The brutal DAP regime is cursed with painful demerits for its stray dog butchery in Penang when the streets ran with canine blood.

Remember too PKR Penanti Adun Dr Norlela Ariffin’s crying jag in the Penang DUN? Sungai Lembu in her constituency – where an illegal carbon filter factory is operating – is an area rife with cancer.

Yet the Dapsters prefer to bash whistleblower Dr Norlela for indirectly getting Guan Eng’s crony, state exco Phee Boon Poh into trouble rather than worry about the cancer anomaly, i.e. incidence of the disease that’s way higher than our national average.

Obviously Dapsters have little concern about cancer victims in PKR’s area on the Penang mainland. Their primary concern is that the DAP rule must always look good in the eyes of the public, and how dare this upstart Malay female Adun go public with her voters’ complaints.

To that end, they’re harassing and treating Dr Norlela like a “pariah”.

My Nation News is not being wholly accurate when they reported ‘Penyokong Pakatan mula serang Adun Penanti, Norlela Ariffin’. It is quite clear that the ones conducting the vicious attacks are DAP supporters.

DAP is responsible for the worst political thuggery and skullduggery.

For all of MCA’s shortcomings, the BN Chinese component has not promoted hate. On the other hand, DAP is synonymous with the Politics of Hate.

Since its hardcore followers refuse to face up to this reality, we shall all just have to wait until next year and see how Dapsters cope with the Malay hegemony post-GE14 − an election result that is a direct consequence and reaction to the DAP’s deranged behaviour.

Mat Sabu’s straggly strawman in defence of his DAP best bud

PAN president Mohamad Sabu today trotted out a strawman argument claiming Umno is scaring Malays that the DAP intends to establish “a Christian state”.  That’s just like making the equally strawish argument saying Umno is fear-mongering Malays that Lim Kit Siang wants to become the next prime minister.

We know that DAP would not be grabbing the premiership in name, even if the opposition does win GE14. We’re quite sure that DAP will leave the top job ostensibly in the hands of a Malay to serve as window dressing − as how the president of Singapore is a Malay woman. This is not to say, however, that the DAP will not be the real power behind the throne.

BELOW: In the short-lived state government of Perak where DAP was the Pakatan party with the most number of DUN seats, the post of Menteri Besar was nonetheless given to PAS, the Pakatan party with the fewest seats. But how much power do you think MB Nizar Jamaluddin had in reality versus how much influence the DAP evangelista warlord cousins wielded behind the scenes?

ABOVE: Mat Sabu may be the PAN president but Guan Eng’s hold on him sure is creepy

DAP’s substance over the Pakatan Harapan form

Likewise the case of Muslim vs Christian power brokers in Pakatan at federal level. There is always the frontman, and then there’s the backseat driver.

Just like DAP did not ‘physically’ hold the post of Perak menteri besar in 2008, neither will DAP anytime in the near future openly declare a ‘Christian state’ aspiration. Expect the sneaky bastards to possess a bit more cunning and acting more realistically befitting our Muslim-majority political context.

Only Mat Sabu can be dumb enough to think the general public is actually dumb enough to buy his strawman argument. In fact, Mat Sabu has been spinning the same silly straw since years ago (see tweet below), and like a well-trained minion, he has not changed his tune.

How then will the DAP bring about its much vaunted ‘Change’?

Give the DAP some credit, please. The evangelical party will – for the time being – continue doing what they’re already doing, i.e. promoting secularism, liberalism and religious pluralism which together have the cumulative effect of eroding the formal status of Islam in Malaysia.

This assessment by PAS Youth chief Muhammad Khalil Abdul Hadi is certainly on the ball, who warned last month that “DAP is shadowed by the Christian evangelist agenda”.

A choir performance at the Selangor state Christmas celebration

For a feel of the DAP’s subtle achievement, look at what they have successfully introduced into our system of social governance. They have normalized the overt presence of evangelical Christians in the corridors of power and other high profile roles.

While I’m not sure about the official Christmas celebration since Azmin Ali took over as Selangor MB, but under the admin of the previous Pakatan MB – see YAB Khalid Ibrahim above – a grand Christmas was officially celebrated at state level.

If I were a Muslim voter, I’d be able to easily see through Mat Sabu’s simplistic ploy of exaggerating the DAP’s so-called ‘Chrsitian state’ ambition. Instead what would truly worry me is the infiltration by the DAP evangelistas into the Malay’s masjid and surau, and into Muslim forums and discussions.

You must ask yourselves what is Hannah Yeoh trying to do through her tudung litup masquerade below!
