Balancing the books between PAS and the native Christian vote

The competing demands by PAS (whom Umno is courting) and by the Sarawak non-Muslim pribumi (fixed deposit that BN wants to retain) is something that the coalition chairman would have preferred to keep on the back burner at this juncture.

But then yesterday, Hadi Awang apparently dropped a bombshell which The Gunting gleefully picked up Continue reading “Balancing the books between PAS and the native Christian vote”

Why would an Islamic activist like Marina hate the Islamic law, asks 11 year old

Interesting question.

“Marina [Mahathir] claims to be a Muslim activist fighting for Muslim rights through an NGO called Sisters in Islam,” observes Ahmad Ali Karim, who’s 11.

This being so, why then did Marina say that she cannot live in a country where Islamic law is to be implemented?

Will Najib save himself through hudud hook-up?

We’re a mere fortnight away from the historic sitting of the state assembly in Kelantan on March 18 to table the hudud amendment bill.

And hudud is just the lever to pry the Islamist party away from its coalition partner DAP. Despite their earlier charade of being Islam-friendly, DAP is dead set against this law under Islam for meting out capital and corporal punishment .

Needless to say, it is to Umno’s best interest – if not the BN’s very survival – for PAS to leave Pakatan.

And thus Umno is, apparently, prepared to support the Kelantan hudud bill. Continue reading “Will Najib save himself through hudud hook-up?”

Majlis Fatwa tidak mahu pertumpahan darah berlaku di negara

Berikut adalah kenyataan Majlis Fatwa Kebangsaan berhubung serbuan Jais:

Whose Islam? Umno: Muslim Malay; PAS: Malay Muslim (2)

You need to realize that in Malaysia, Malay and Islam is viewed as synonymous, and Malays view Islam as not only a religion but a way of life. You can see this through various things like the syariah courts, Islamic banking and such.

A Malay party embracing Islam and therefore implementing Islamic details is inevitable. Continue reading “Whose Islam? Umno: Muslim Malay; PAS: Malay Muslim (2)”

“What were the Malays of the 1950s and 60s like?”

Probably the kind of post-colonial Malays that Mahathir hated but the only kind that could produce the Malay Dilemma. I suppose it is the old story of class conflict but conveniently misdiagnosed as race tensions.

Konspirasi Umno supaya Melayu jumud, kononnya

Chan Lilian in ‘trouble’ over her Christianity, actually

By all accounts, the crux of Chan Lilian’s contentious tweet lies in this line: “i think all Christians shud march for all the persecution they had done to us and our Lord”.

The police had investigated Lilian for sedition but apparently No Further Action (NFL).
