I have a dog and a cat.

The dog is adopted from PAWS. The cat is picked up from the divider in the middle of a busy road.

Wrt the dog, it was a conscious decision I made to provide a home for a shelter animal rather than buy one from the pet shop or breeder.

Guan Eng slams Education Minister as “immature”

Lim Guan Eng slammed the Education and Defence Ministers as lacking maturity and accused Mahdzir Khalid and Hishammuddin Hussein of politicizing Penang’s National Day “Bersih” theme.

He also claimed that both cabinet ministers had misused their authority to “deny the right of Penang to celebrate our country’s Independence together (with the rest of the country)” following the decision of the army and the schools to withdraw from participating in the state’s official celebration on Aug 31. Bersih 4.0 – The real objective is to attract Malay GE14 votes

Bersih 1.0

The first edition of Bersih in November 2007 provided the momentum for the Makkal Sakti wave of March 2008 that led to the opposition winning five states – Kedah, Penang, Perak, Selangor & Kelantan – and sweeping the Federal Territory.

If only FT had a state legislative assembly, then the oppo in GE12 would have won six states or exactly half of the peninsula and mind you, getting the richest and most developed ones with the biggest populations. (more…)

Tun has returned, and he exaggerates

After a week’s silence, Tun is back swinging and delivering today yet another stinger. He says in Che Det, “Democracy is dead”.

“Democracy is dead” were identically Tun Dr Ismail’s famous words with regard to the aftermath of the May 13 riots. It’s hardly a good omen for Tun Mahathir to resurrect such an evocative phrase that’s so intertwined with our bloody past. (more…)

Zahid Hamidi: Race-based schools are divisive

In an interview with Berita Harian on Saturday, Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said segregating children by race through the education system is divisive –

“Mana boleh sebuah negara ada tiga sistem berbeza berdasarkan kaum dan agama yang tiada titik pertemuan. Kita kena ada pendidikan nasional yang melangkaui batasan kaum, agama dan bangsa.”
