OKM you forgot a fourth reason – I am also desperate for publicity because I am a Tony Pua wannabe. That is why I dress in baju Melayu and berpuasa. Any publicity is good publicity even in The Star which I believe is full of lies and spreading falsehoods. Not enough people noticed that I won in Serdang and hopefully the column will remind everybody that I EXIST.
Tanda Putera made reminded MCA that the were once rejected by the Chinese and had almost pulled out from Government. Do they dare this time?
Or they are dishonourably backstabbing UMNO quietly for DAP and thinking it is for the good of Chinese.
They are not going to pull out. I mean, why should they ? They know full well that staying with the BN enables them to reap all the benefits while helping the opposition to do serious damage from within.
They are not going to pull out voluntarily. The higher powers in BN will have to kick them out. That’s the only way to settle this. Period.

Not sure if you folks have noticed but there has been a shift in the Star’s editorial direction post-GE.
Previously the DAP propaganda has been conducted by the low level reporters-cum Dapsters sneaking in stories about their dear leaders, pass the sleeping editors.
However post-GE, the editorial policy has changed. The stories appearing on the front page are anti-BN/pro-DAP. DAP /PR leaders are now columnists while BN leaders have been sidelined. It is seems that the Star has been “dapsterised”.
Personally I don’t have a problem with critical stories on BN as long as it is in the interests of people or the nation. However some of these stories are downright spins and misinterpretation of the truth – in the tradition established by the likes of MI and Mkini.
For example, the way they played up Altantunya verdict or reported that a 100-year old temple has been “demolished” or how Jonker Walk was “closed” clearly shows that Dapsters are firmly in driver’s seat now and that the rocket indeed landed in the star. With friends like the Star, BN needs no enemies. Also notice how the Star reported LGE’s attempt to ban Tanda Putera.
I think the previous attempt to promote DAP was political and after the 13GE, the Star bosses probably realised that it makes commercial sense too since more than 88% Chinese support PR.
The Edge, Focus, the Star, Malay Mail are all now sleeping with the enemies. Only the NST is bravely fighting a lonely battle for BN. Pakatan has the social media in its hands and now with most of MSM in its pocket, the prospects for BN in 14GE looks gloomy.
Social experiment ? Looks more like reigious experiment…to preach and “dapsterise” the flock.

I find it hilarious that Zainuddin Maidin is accusing the Chinese of isolating themselves through their cold response to the movie, when the movie is not even doing well in the mainstream cinemas.
It is not likely the movie will recoup its 4.5 million budget.

It is not just “we guys” that are unlikely to support that movie. Many of the moviegoing public had no interest in ‘Tanda Putera’. Despite all the publicity from both pro Barisan Nasional and pro Opposition media, government support, and multiple ticket purchases from government supporters the movie still did not do well.

Wrt to the Tanda review by Uma and Joe, Uma if I am not mistaken is the scion on a MIC or MIC connected family and one the collaborators of the Effing show and a lackey at BFM.
In other words your garden variety dilettante who takes pride in showing the middle finger to an Establishment which created him. There’s nothing really wrong with this except the weseally manner he chooses to do this, using the arts as a shield and not a sword, which is not what any credible intellectual/artist/critic would .
As for the bold step of OKM writing for the Star. What can I say ? When you add the other “alternative” voices, it’s an explosion of noxious propagandist fumes of Chernobyl proportions.
And its all rather silly. I won’t even bother taking my shots at OKM but this whole idea of a social experiment is just absolute bollocks. The Star ceased being a newspaper in any sense of the word a long time ago. It makes no difference if it is a MCA propaganda organ or a DAP mouthpiece.
I don’t know how long it will remain an MCA cash cow but so long as it does, it most probably has some value to UMNO and their never ending quest to fill their war chest.
As far as the “English” press is concerned, the alternative press is the mainstream press. Stupid UMNO is to blame for all of this, Malaysiakini is a PR mouthpiece and more or less every other “alternative” English media, follows the same drummer.
And why does everyone here talk about the MCA as though it is still alive? There is no BN. That concept died a long time ago. There is only UMNO.
UMNO cannot compete with the “mainstream” English media. It could I suppose gag the Star but this is akin to shooting yourself in the foot and then dipping said foot in muddy water.

These guys are supposed to be movie critics but somehow more concerned with historical accuracy. I wonder what kind of training or knowledge these guys have for criticizing the film for historical / factual inaccuracies. This is after all a movie and not an episode of History Channel. From their criticisms it is clear that their problem is not the way the movie was directed but the subject matter and how it portrays their political idols.
