“May 13 NOT a racial riot” — and so the Dapster denial begins

Article titled ‘May 13 was not a racial riot – Stephen Ng‘ in The Malaysian Insider today.

Yeah like Bak Kut Teh is not pork.

The TMI writer above Stephen Ng – who disputes that ethnic antagonism caused May 13 – also advised the racists to learn how to be colour blind.

He cites two Pakatan young politicians as being “well-respected by people of all races”, adding that he is

“glad that in our midst there are two good examples that I have seen – Nurul Izzah Anwar and Hannah Yeoh, two young ladies who have gained much credence over the years. May they lead Malaysia into a new era!”

The problem with Umno is …

… that this tidak apa party has allowed the opposition to take control of the English-language media.

  1. Malaysia Insider (MI) is among the 3 news portal that spread lies and instilling hatred to the people towards the government. The other 2 are Malaysia Chronicle (MC) and Malaysiakini (MKini). Never trust them…

  2. The Malays shouldn’t be worried about what the Chinese were doing and are doing as the current batch of Malaysian Chinese have fulfilled their 3rd generation prophecy. The same goes for the Singaporean Chinese. Singapore knows that and that is why the sudden influx of foreigners from China, India etc to remedy the malaise.

What is the 3rd generation prophecy? The first generation are usually poor and they will work hard to survive and to succeed. The second generation will continue the good works and retained wealth. The third generation idolises themselves, is lazy and eventually lose all the wealth of the forefathers.

The current batch of the Chinese is from Gen III. They are interested in being trendy. They cannot manage their homes thus the influx of maids. They love the blame games. They blame everyone for everything including the reduction of their population. (This is because the government encourages Malays to reproduce like rabbits.) They are narcissistic. (Malays are not very smart and lazy but the Chinese are very smart.) They are very cultured having only mastered (or partly mastered) 3 languages. The Chinese language is so superior that no one other than them could master. (They forgot that many Malays and Indians are in Chinese schools.)

If you think the current generation Chinese are very good in business, think again. They are many SMIs but they remain there. They don’t want to innovate or they are so concerned with the share price at the Bursa that they cannot progress. Remember the bubble of the second board. Malay businesses progress too – the Mydins, the Habibs, the Al Ikhsans etc.

I pondered Helen’s article about KJ. In fact Minister of Glam is not bad at all. He is ambitious for one. Compare that to the current set of Chinese leaders. They are no good leaders at all. Either they are sleepy heads like in the Gerakan, the fighting cocks in MCA and frogs and the loudmouths of the DAP, none of them are the calibre of Lim Chong Eu or Tan Cheng Lock.

The current set of leaders is in the news not because of their good works but because of controversy. From MCA, Chua and his sex tape. From DAP, the ever loudmouth Lim Guan Eng. From Gerakan, who? Don’t forget the frog wannabees like OKM.

The current Gen III Chinese lack self-control. They want attention like Alvivi and short term profit. The Malay always have a good yardstick for discipline. ISLAM. The Solat Subuh, Puasa and tithing demands discipline. For the Chinese there is none. Many Chinese Christians say they worship Christ but actually their worship the pastor. Sun Ho is one example. The many issues with mediums plague the Taoist.

Don’t think Penang is such a great place with great people. It is a flop of a place. A state that takes pride in producing world leaders and fashionistas etc. can’t even handle simple things like traffic, garbage disposal and housing. Every plan to modernise the traffic system (LRT whatever etc.) will be shot down and replaced with unachievable plans (for example the sea tunnel).

Random parking will always be a problem. Houses are so expensive that every condo north of the island has only less than 20% occupancy. Such irony. The once third tallest building in the Asia is the reigning champion of the tallest dump in the world. Penang is such a shopping paradise that most of the older malls like 1Stop and Bukit Jambul are quite vacant. The ever “empty” Bukit Jambul is the mecca of Bangla and Myammar shopping.

Let the DAPster deny all they can. They are very good at it. They still think they are so superior but actually they are complacent. Don’t tell me if any Malay and Indian put another ounce of effort they cannot succeed.

The Chinese should watch more historical films particularly Chinese history. A scene from Opium War (1997). The British MPs were shown a few relics from China. The Ming was an elegant painting. Beautiful and artistic! The Tang was a tough brass statute. The Ching was a vase. It was huge but if you drop it, it breaks into smithereens. The DAP Chinese could learn a thing or two from Soong Sisters starring their most hated star Tan Sri Michelle Yeoh.

    Rioting will destroy a country.

    1. Quote: “Rioting will destroy a country.”

Pray tell me who is rioting?

The complacent lazy 3rd generation Chinese who would rather do their fighting on DOTA?

      Cheers

        1. I did read your whole posting. I always do and seldom pick keywords.

It’s just that the odd line is in a new paragraph, so, naturally I assume it is on a different context from the previous paragraph.

          cheers

          1. re: “It’s just that the odd line is in a new paragraph, so, naturally I assume it is on a different context from the previous paragraph.”

            HH,

Mulan’s comment came in one long continuous text, so I intervened the paragraphing.

Therefore I’m to be faulted for any shortcomings giving rise to the oddness.

            1. To PR kakis appearance (form) is more important than substance (content), there nothing you can do Helen, to stop HH from being blindsided…it is bound to happen.

The best they can come is that Mulan was less Cina than their kinds.

Sadly, most PAS members are experiencing this malaise as well.

Idolatry and Tokong worship is rampant over that camp!

Suka mengata-ngata tetapi lihatlah siapa yang paling terjebak dalam kes juvana, rempit, ragut, hamil bawah umur, dadah, jenayah, menganggur, dan lain-lain.

      1. Ya. Terima kasih kerana menonton Tanda Putera edisi YouTube. Kesian juga penerbit filem tempatan. Sampai KL Gangster 2 pula kena cetak rompak.
Siapa yang terjebak dalam cetak rompak.
One day Mulan will be Indian too. And Caucasian, Kadazan etc. I am every woman!

        1. Well mulan, you now officially a truely Malaysian. You have a provent statement that you a malay chinese and coming soon Indian

          ;D sarah

      2. And who supply the drugs? The Chinese Triads right? They’re not only thugs and gangsters, but they are businessmen – they go for big profits.

As usual, AC-DC, ppl like u can’t accept when ur own race criticize u. If u wanna talk about crimes, think about Chinese Triads who are involved in BIG, PROFESSIONAL, ORGANIZED CRIMES, OK? Prostitution, drug dealing, women trafficking, illegal gambling, and God knows what else. So, no race is better than another OK?

We Malays are involved in social problems, but crime and social problems know no race OK? We should acknowledge all our faults and work to solve the problem. Typical Chinese twit. Only know how to get hyper-sensitive and then fingerpoint elsewhere. You must be from the Generation III Chinese said by Mulan.

        1. Re:”And who supply the drugs? The Chinese Triads right? They’re not only thugs and gangsters, but they are businessmen – they go for big profits.”

And how do these Chinese triads get away with it ? How did Malaysia become one on the hubs of human trafficking , or drug transit points ?

Organized crime cannot exist without the succour of the State.

The reality (organized crime) is that Malays, Chinese and Indians are all a part of it. The System is to the culprit – The State (Malay), The Crime (Chinese and Indian) , The Victims (Malay, Chinese and Indian) – if you want to break it down in a racial demographic. But….

…these days we have crime syndicates comprised of Indonesian, Thai, Vietnamese, African, Burmese and other such diaspora. Mixed in with the criminal element are the radical ideological fringe groups who for whatever reasons cannot operate in their own countries but who use this as a convenient source of funding and networking.

          1. The purported Geng 04 is headed by Chinese triad bosses. Their machais are the Indians, allegedly five of them in the Sg Nibong apartment who were shot dead in the pre-dawn raid.

            State players (Malay)
            Gangland bosses (Chinese)
            Runners (Indian)

            How muhibbah.

          2. Conrad,

Exactly my point. When it comes to crimes and social problems, it does not know race. Indeed, everyone is involved. But ppl like AC-DC didnt get it. Of course the Chinese Triads can get away with crimes because there is government involvement. Masuk lokap pintu depan, keluar lokap pintu belakang.

    3. “Houses are so expensive that every condo north of the island has only less than 20% occupancy. “

No worry, I read from somewhere that ghosts from Penang War Museum can help occupy these vacant condos, lol (this is not an original comment, I borrowed this from somewhere).

“…. A scene from Opium War (1997)…. The DAP Chinese could learn a thing or two from Soong Sisters ….”

Could you link the current Sino malaise in Malaysia with classic Chinese literature like Journey to the West, Water Margin, Romance of 3 Kingdoms and Dream of Red Chamber? I remembered someone here brought up characters like Liu Bei in the past but I forgot in what context.

    4. Ms Mulan would like to inform that she has been plagiarised by our Malaysian Insider.
      http://www.themalaysianinsider.com/malaysia/article/the-malaysia-3g

I am so sad that I am quoted by a small Malaysian publication while very few readers. I thought that I would be quoted by good publications like AlJazerra. Sad to sad I am the muse of insignificant storytelling. When can good journalist like the late Sir David Frost quote me?

I am so sad. Now I am like a H&M dress sold at the flee market.

  3. Re: “The problem with Umno is …
… that this tidak apa party has allowed the opposition to take control of the English-language media.”

Well Nazri claims it was the Chinese, while KJ says it was the communists- same difference I suppose.

Anyway, what would be your suggestions on how UMNO could contribute to the discourse in the English -language media…..or do you mean they should use the instruments of the State to clamp down on these voices ?

  4. Entah kenapa eh Helen, the mention of Tembam (esp those pics taken in Mosques) will instantly remind me of Jim Jones, his “rainbow family” and his Temple of Doom?

  5. Stephen Ng’s take on May 13 seems to be in line with RPK’s.

Soldiers dressed as civilians were ferried to Kg Baru to cause trouble. The Kg Baru Malays were the ones who open their houses to shelter the Chinese.

I know wisecracks and shit will come calling on me. So don’t bother replying. I do trust my mother’s account and her house is in Kg Baru. Just a few shophouses before the Pizza Junction Restaurant.

    1. if the MT loons are to believed, then UMNO by far, is the most intelligent political party that ever existed.

Maybe the DAPSsters will later say that China Peng is a Malay, Muslim and a secret UMNO member after this.

      1. re: “if the MT loons are to believed, then UMNO by far, is the most intelligent political party that ever existed”

        :D :D :D

      2. Re:”if the MT loons are to believed, then UMNO by far, is the most intelligent political party that ever existed”

Well it doesn’t take much intelligence if you control all the media, have compliant Non Malay component members who were cowed by recent events and as a dominant political (ethnic) party hold the keys to the loony bin.

Recall the shit the Kennedys got away with, now ignored in the hazy Zapruder footage.

    2. Eye witness accounts have been proven scientifically to be unreliable. I would trust your mother as far as I can throw her.[insert yo momma so fat joke here]

  6. Perangai DAP dan J-STAR skg ini seumpama mengundang sekali lagi 13 Mei 69. Nak rasa betul2 ke ?

  7. Future scenario.

Opening scene… Chinese CEO meets Malay executive candidate during interview. They exchange pleasantries in English. The Malay candidate sits down and hands over his CV, while bowing his head in deference.

Malay candidate: – sir I believe in One Malaysia.. Now that our dear leader, LGE (peace be upon him), is PM for life, having re-written our great constitution to honor the importance of being “Malaysian first”, I hereby submit my CV for a position as entry level junior clerk. As you can see, I graduated from Cambridge

Chinese CEO:- Sorry, we are Oxford men here.

Malay candidate:- But I have a post graduate degree from Oxford too.

Chinese CEO: – Sorry we need a mandarin speaker.

Malay candidate:- I took 5 years of Mandarin and 3years of Hokkien. It is written in my CV. I also had an internship in Beijing lasting 6 months.

Chinese CEO:- We’re looking for candidates who are confident and have strong character

Malay candidate:- I assure you, sir, I am that person.

Chinese CEO:- I don’t think so. This interview is over.

Dejected, the Malay candidate respectfully excuses himself from the room. On his way out the building, he walks past the rows of glass-walled offices and spacious cubicles. Every he looks he sees yellow-skinned, slant-eyed executives. They all appear strange to him.

While glancing over one cubicle partition, he sees a dark skinned forehead. He peaks over only to see a red dot, a bhindi, between the eye brows. “Not Malay, ” he mutters to himself.

He walks on. He thinks about applying for the GLC that his father worked for, but the writing is on the wall – – it will be bankrupt in a matter of months. Many GLCs are on the brink of collapse since LGEs ascension.

At the exit, he see a familiar face, a Malay. He is holding a broom.

*Zoom camera to Malay man’s face.*

The sight of another Malay holding a broom brings a tear his eye.

    1. Quote: “sir I believe in One Malaysia.. Now that our dear leader, LGE (peace be upon him), is PM for life, having re-written our great constitution to honor the importance of being “Malaysian first”, I hereby submit my CV for a position as entry level junior clerk. As you can see, I graduated from Cambridge”

The problem with this candidate is not the question of qualification. It is his confidence.

For a Cambridge grad to apply for a junior clerk position, I would say this candidate has serious self esteem issue.

      1. But perhaps that’s the only position available to a teary eyed Malay when the place is filled with “….yellow-skinned, slant-eyed executives. They all appear strange to him.”.

        Just sayin’

However I do like the imagery it conjures up. I would much prefer a film like this than Tanda Putera. I mean if everybody was allowed a certain degree of freedom of expression than everyone could have a go at race relations in this country.

        And it says a lot.

I mean where are the Indians ? Cutting grass ? Planning a robbery ? Stay at home husbands to Chinese wives ?

        1. Indians are probably in the armed forces since they are supposedly good with arms and knives.

But one thing never change tho, the Indians will still monopolize the media outlets aka newspaper stand. :)

              1. Seriously I pity the Indian. They have been marginalized not only by the system but also by their own doing….

      2. You actually read my BS piece? I was trying to depict how in the future Malays would have to apply for the lowest level jobs. Even with strong, seemingly unassailable academic credentials, they would be rejected. The Malay man with the broom represents the types of opportunity that would be available to the typical Malay.

Actually, I don’t think this has to be a story set in the future. It can be set in the present, at the office of the Selangor Times. The Chinese CEO can even be a Malay leader, like KJ, who would rather hire Chinese (in KJs case, Regina) than a person of his own race.

I find it odd that in my fictional piece, you think the blame still falls on the Malay candidate . It speaks volumes as to your mindset.

Don’t you know that in most situations where jobs are hard to come by, even an interview for a low level clerk position would be more than welcome. We see that situation now in Europe, where unemployed youth with strong academic backgrounds apply for the lowest level jobs, some of which are non-executive positions. These people apply for jobs to live, not to maintain self worth.

        1. Hey man, I liked it.

I was hoping you would add a scene, in which the Malay character walks into a mosque with Buddhist chants ominously filling the air. This is what finally makes him realize that it is time to revolt.

And you find it odd that I would relate to a fictional piece on a racial level when this fictional piece is all about race ?

But I dig the whole KJ elaboration. You may want to add someone like Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud in the mix.

        2. one Malay

Quote: “I find it odd that in my fictional piece, you think the blame still falls on the Malay candidate . It speaks volumes as to your mindset.”

No offense. I am hard on myself and my own race as well. I have to admit you did in some way ire me up when you try to portray this Malay Cambridge grad as a victim. That is your contention, right? It was never an innocent depiction of hopelessness where qualified individuals have to settle for low level employment in Europe like you say. I stand corrected of course.

I just find it hypocrital when you bring up meritocracy, or more precisely, the lack of meritocrary in the picture when Malays are at the receiving end while chose to look the other way when the same issue is brought up with regards to other races. Think scholarship and University entrance.

          1. Well, obviously you’re not a Melayu who has tried applying for a job at a Chinese owned company. Even today, this discrimination is already taking place. The guy’s story just turns the hype a bit up by making the protagonist a Cambridge-Oxford grad applying for a clerical position, that’s all.

In today’s world a Melayu who holds a First Class engineering degree can still lose the job to a cukup makan Chinese applicant. Itupun KALAU the Melayu applicant can apply – which the “Mandarin speaker only” discriminatory criteria – I mean, meritocracy criteria – takes care of.

            1. In the pertelagahan Melayu-Cina-Cina-Melayu, and the grab for state resources by both these two strong ethnic groups, the small ethnic groups (Indians, Orang Asli) fall by the wayside.

The gomen public sector prefers to hire Malays, the private sector prefers to hire Chinese, then who gonna hire the Indians?

            2. Ramayana

I am not saying discrimination in the private sector does not exist. Discriminatory hiring practices in the profit oriented private sector seldom stems from racial loyalty borned out of racial kinship. Rather, I suspect, at least in Malaysia, it has to do with perception. In view of our Govt’s policies that do not emphasize on meriticracy and more interested in the number game of turning out elite bumi students, true bumi achievers are unfortunately dogged by skeptism and doubt cast by the non-Malays.

        3. ‘I find it odd that in my fictional piece, you think the blame still falls on the Malay candidate . It speaks volumes as to your mindset.’

one Malay, please don’t dread. Some people believes in alien and the likes. Some believes it is UMNO fault that they are being stranded in this beautiful land for eternity. They can’t afford to leave anyway. The one that did, had left quietly.

You should be here long enough to be able to smell these tokong worship coolies from a far!

      3. HH. I like to ask this so-called Cambridge grad when did he matriculate and from which College ? If he cannot, then he is like one of the many FAKES. There are very few REAL CAMBRIDGE GRAD IN MALAYSIA. IF THEY ARE ANY GOOD, THEY WILL NOT RETURN.

    2. one Malay,

A good one. I think it will never happen as DAP leaders are too dumb. They had 3 opportunities (1998, 2008 & 2013) but they failed because the majority Malays did not support them.

Now they are trying very hard to win over the Malays eg Hannah ‘Banana’ Yeoh with her menjelajah masjid and OKM with his sahur, puasa in Ramadan and ucapan InsyaAllah. Maybe PAS supporters could be easily misled by these charades as most of them are dungus.

But the rest of us with the exception of a few liberal Malays, know that the DAP leaders are suckers/manipulators/hypocrites of the highest order and we look upon them with disdain and resentment.

      1. In 1998, it was the Chinese who helped Barisan Nasional retain power. The Malay vote was split due to the Anwar Ibrahim incident.

            1. Right on. A decade later the Malays dumped Anwar. Why is Anwar now so concerned with peace with UMNO? Isn’t UMNO the devil, the corrupt etc? How fickle minded!

                1. To those who in the knows, Anwar could not care less for the Chinese when he was in the government. Masa dia jadi Menteri Pendidikan, apa yang dia ada buat? But of course itu cerita rumah tangga…tapi Cina tak sedar depa kena main depan belakang dengan Anwar…mungkin with the pretext that depa akan main Anwar balik…Hehe, we shall wait and see..

        1. Yes, precisely. While the Malay votes were split due to AI factor, the majority Chinese were still asleep. The opposition could have won if the Chinese were to vote for the opposition but they instead voted for BN. Now it’s too late already as we know their true colors, syukur Alhamdullillah!

          1. What true colours ? That when they could have delivered the coup de grâce they chose not to but instead opted for the status quo or when that status quo failed on the promised reform, the rest of the community became so radicalized it helped create a new political dynamic in this country with other disaffected Malays ?

            1. Rightly said.

The Malays who voted for the opposition never have their loyalty to the nation questioned. But when the non Malays do it, out come the predictable responses from the UMNO/Perkasa crowd. Double standards.

                  1. ‘Got lah.’

Betul tu Helen, budak-budak hingusan mana boleh fikir lagi masa tu?!

Mana tau semua back story macam tu…

ACDC jangan kata lah, Mulan pun pada dia Melayu…lawak2!

          2. Sebenarnya masa tu dia orang takut harta benda dia orang hilang dalam kegawatan ekonomi. Truth be told, during that time only Tun M has the brain to save the. That was why they voted BN.

            1. Masa tu Tun M depa punya tuhan, masa tu depa dah kena bayar ansuran rumah sampai dekat 2 kali ganda sebab interest naik, depa tengah pening kepala takut ekonomi kaput…

    3. Lovely! May I be allowed to continue?

“Through the haze of tears, the Malay candidate reaches for the broom, taking it gently, almost tenderly, from the bewildered janitor’s hands.

He turns resolutely on his heel and strides back into the Chinese CEO’s room. The meek demeanour is gone, replaced with a steely glint in the eye.

“PENDATANG!!!!!!!!!” he shrieks at the hapless cinabeng. “I’ve just recalled that my Austronesian ancestors touched down here before yours did, hence I claim this land as my own – again – and I hereby reclaim my divine birthright to lazy, gaji buta directorships, unearned, artificial shares of the economic pie, imposed quotas everywhere – and if you are thinking of having your own schools, I’ll fucking disembowel you right now, you chinkiebabimatasepet bastard!!!!”

The CEO’s slant eyes actually open wide for a change.

“Errrr, but isn’t your mere chronological accident of ancestry rather a tenuous ground on which to claim this whole raft of privileges?” stammers the Chinese CEO in terror, albeit quite logically. “And what about that Indian over there? Quite a lot of archaeological evidence points to the fact that her ancestors actually got here even before your Austronesian forebears, so – ”

      “Yes, I know. But…she’s a keling, right?”

The logic is inarguable, and the Chinese CEO bows his head, which is neatly sliced off with a vicious hack from the Malay candidate. The head rolls across the carpet, its eyes now permanently slitty.

“Kalau lu tak suka, emigrate lah”, says the Malay candidate, spitting on the headless corpse for good measure.

He hands the broom back to the shocked janitor. “Kalo pukimak Cina nih coba berlagok sombong lagi…”

And they all lived happily ever after.

      The End.

      Of Malaysia.

  8. JMD sudah tikam budak berfantasi ni… simply based on the Kua’s fantasy – Rewriting Malaysian history ?

But still there must be a Godfather behind.. Everybody knows !

    1. Mungkin dah terlambat sebab ramai yang kat sini dok parrots apa yang Kua cakap sebagai fakta…pada depa bila ramai orang cakap, makna must be betul tu…ish2

  9. My uncle never stops telling me how his Chinese classmates and an Indian teacher spewed anti-Malay virulence in a school in Kedah few days before May 13 in 1969. The teacher was asking 30 Chinese students (out of a class of 40) what to do with Malays once the Opposition seized power in 1969. The students kept yelling, “Send them back to the jungles where they belong!”. The teacher said: “No! Sending them to the jungle would be cruel! Why don’t we set up reservations in Malaysia like Indian reservations in US where we can put all Malays there!”.

The Chinese lost the 1969 war, my uncle said. Had they won, Malaysia would be a Chinese country and Malays would be suppressed. But Malays won the war and Chinese were not suppressed. Ever since May 13, the Chinese in DAP have been trying a new tactic quite different from the one they used in 1969. This time around, they pit Malays against Malays as a preparation for an eventual takeover of Malaysia in one way or another. May 13 of 1969 was a racial riot oiled by Chinese overconfidence to take over Malaysia after they performed quite well in 1969 elections. Whoever says May 13 is not racial riot is just denying fact and history.

    1. My pakcik had told me a story about a guy who had hutang a cina, sekupang and made enslaved during the 14 hari pemerintahan komunis, slightly after the Japanese had surrender…meaty stuff, should be film so that the mistreated ‘banglas’ may bersyukur for their misgivings!

      1. My dad was living with his parents in Kampong Datuk Keramat in 1969. When a rumor was spread (which turned out to be true) that a Malay man had been murdered by a Chinese in Setapak, my dad and his cousin went to join the gathering at the then MB’s home in Kampong Baru. His Chinese mother (my grandma) told my dad and his cousin, “Kalau nampak Cina, bunuh saja, jangan bagi peluang. Orang Cina ni memang tak boleh percaya”. My dad and his cousin each armed with a parang, went to the gathering and came back home in the early morning of May 13 escorted by 2 policemen. The bloodbath started later that day.

Prior to May 13, there were a number of Chinese lived on the outskirts of Kampong Datuk Keramat. On May 13, they were killed and their houses were looted and burnt and their bodies were dumped in unused mining pools.nearby. On the same day, many Malays were also killed in a cinema at Chow Kit Road. Among those killed was a pregnant Malay woman whose abdomen was cut open while still alive and her baby was speared and then hanged on a metal hook. There was also a report about a Chinese doctor who was sending his Malay girlfriend home in Kampong Datuk Keramat, was killed by Malay youths while his Malay girlfriend was freed. There were also other instances where the Malays hid their Chinese neighbors from being attacked by Malays and vice versa.

Note: My dad and his cousin didn’t kill any Chinese.

  10. Helen – It’s time you put up witty photos like the LKS. Just to cool down the atmosphere in here. Im starting to see blood on the screen.

  11. Ms H. In 1964, I was there at the Dewan Rakyat listening to the heated duels between the full force of the DAP and the Alliance with TDM and others. There were the 1967 Penang Riots. Before the 1969 GE, I was there watching the noisy demonstrations of the funeral of a shot Kepong Chinese in the Foch Avenue (Jalan Tun Tan Cheng Lock).

I noticed many young Chinese milling around. After the 1969 GE, I saw noisy motorcades of young Chinese beating drum and cymbals along the Imbi Road and the Chinatown. All these events built up a feeling of fear in me. At 2.30 pm, the MCA piquely pulled out of the Alliance and re-joined at 10 pm that night.

At 2.30 pm, my phone rang……….. Instead of selling shares short, I rang all my relatives and friends to go home. At 5 pm, my sister was shopping near the Odeon Cinema, Batu Road (Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman), she could hear the crashing sound of hastily closing shutters along the whole street with people shouting ‘They are coming. Run, run !’ She escaped home by the skin of her teeth.

Curfew was imposed that night at 10 pm. The 5th Malay Regiment came to town and was biouac

    1. Sorry !……..and was bivouacked in the school padang off Gurney Road directly in front of my brother’s house. To their credit, they were disciplined and orderly.

The whole conundrum has a political and socio-economic perspective which many of us do not understand. We had Merdeka since 1957, in 1969, Malaysia still had the colonial Currency Board and its functions i.e. you only spend what you earn. With 70% of the best of Malaysia controlled and owned by the British, and 20% of the 3rd rate owned by the Chinese towkays and probably less than 5% owned by the Malays, WE HAD AN INFLAMMATORY MIX. In other words, the RICH BECAME RICHER.

But it was the BRITISH WHO OWNED MALAYSIA NOT THE CHINESE who were only the wholesale and distributors for the British goods. My young Malay friends who returned from the United Kingdom were abhorred by the political socio-economic situation which they faced and all of them could not anything more than the bare essentials. The Chinese were mainly in the towns or the new villages. The MCA leadership lost touch with reality throughout the 1960s as if they are better now.

        1. The problem of the Chinese, Malaysian Chinese today is the problem of their unqualified, uneducated and inexperienced political leaders in the PUBLIC AFFAIRS OF MALAYSIA VIS A VIS THE REST OF THE WORLD.

If Malaysia did not have a free capital market, how come there are so many Chinese Latuks around and Tanslis by the score and 7 1/2 ex-poor Singaporean multi-billionaires too. I guess these backers are after the 9 PROPOSED CASINO LICENCES IF WHOEVER COMES INTO POWER ! No more. No less. I like EVERYONE TO BE RICH.

        2. Ms H. One small example. Until the Bank Negara Malaysia became fully functional after 1972, business moved very slowly and bank credit was impossible to get for a Chinese and definitely impossible for the Malay or Indian. There was no Overdraft Facility or Credit Cards as we now know it. A dire lack of business and employment opportunities was the result of a Currency Board regime. So the RICH BECAME RICHER because these fellas were the only people with capital.

      1. Sorry!…….The aftermath of the 1969 riots was the NEP and the most important of all the dissolution of the Currency Board with the Bank Negara Malaysia taking on its intended role as the Banker to the Government in 1972. This permitted the Government to spend money for development and social infrastructures for the Rakyat. But sadly, Tun Abdul Razak passed away soon after and Tun Hussein Onn was a good and cautious leader. It was not until Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad became Prime Minister that the NEP began to move in all earnestness, 10 late !.

Even though I am not anti-British, facts are facts. WHO IS TO TAKE THE BLAME ? I dare say it was the British because the finger was pointed at the wrong people the Chinese that they owned the economy. The Chinese DID NOT AND IS NOT ! THE FACTS ARE CLEAR FOR ALL TO SEE.

        1. Hence, I developed the Sime Darby Concept and its Repatriation in 1972 and all British businesses were absorbed at MARKET VALUES by the Malaysians by the 1980s. NO NATIONALIZATION FOR US. And big Singaporean investors assisted the Malaysians in the first takeover of a British Colonial Conglmerate, SIME DARBY which is now the flagship of the PNB.

            1. Ms H. Sime Darby originated in Malacca at the turn of the 20th century when one named Sime and the other Darby got together to form Sime Darby. It was a sleepy British trading house overshadowed by the likes of Harrisons & Crosfield, Guthrie, Boustead, East Asiatic, Socfin – big 5 trading houses.

Then, an enterprising Englishman Dennis Pinder took over in the mid-1960s and expanded it. By 1972, Pinder got into trouble with the Singapore Government and was charged with CBT, this was where I came in and urged the high authorities to do something. FORTUNATELY FOR ME, SIME DARBY TURNED OUT TO BE THE MALAYS FIRST BIG COMPANY.

But my vision then in the 1970s was to turn Sime Darby into what Temasek Singapore is in the 21st Century – capture the vital old established businesses of the West and transfer markets and expertise for ALL MALAYSIANS TO BENEFIT. However, the chaps did not want to take risks like owning Jaguar, or Volvo SO SIME DARBY IS LIKE AN ELEGANT BRITISH TRADING HOUSE OF OLD, SELLING GOODS FOR OTHERS – no risk.

The Malays only put out RM 23 Million in those 1970s days with our Singaporean friends to capture SIME DARBY because unlike now the Malays did not have the BIG BUCKS to spend !

          1. Islam 1st. You me a loony called me a British Nationalist. Then, this loony must have his head examined by a head shrinker at Tanjong Rambutan !

          2. Re. Bodo la itu orang!

I read one comment in yahoo news over beauty pageant contestant IQ i.e. “Stupidity is a bliss, do not erase it by opening your mouth”.

        2. Throughout from the 1960 onwards, I have a cockpit view of all the major players including the British. At the height of the riots, my friends were in the UMNO Youth (ultras), my relatives, the most senior Chinese Adviser to the Government on Communist Insurgency, the Paediatrician in the Kuala Lumpur General Hospital and relatives and friends all over KL which was small in those days. And out of curiosity I attended all those Opposition rallies, big and small.

Finally I came to the conclusion that because the British still owned 70% of the Malaysian economy in 1969 but the Chinese were seen to make money from peanuts and the Malays had nothing, this was the ingredients which blew-up before anyone was the wiser.

BY 1972, I CAME TO THE CONCLUSION THE ONLY WAY TO SORT OUT THIS HISTORICAL MESS WAS TO BUY THE BRITISH OUT. And it was timely because the British was down in the dumps until 1982 when Margaret Thatcher tookover. We only got Sime Darby cheap with RM23 Millions. Guthrie in 1982 cost 2 Billion pounds !

I maybe alone knew of the real reason for the 13 May 1969

          1. Sorry. I alone maybe the only person who knew the real reasons for the 13 May 1969 riots and from there a seedling of Malaysian endeavour and enterprise grew and grew till the key to govern was lost after 2003. Now we end up in a conundrum of how to share the wealth fairly and equitably. As long as we follow the rule of the laws we will be there. 2020 or whatever.

            1. Do appreciate you taking the time to share. Hopefully someday the truth on May 13 will come out or perhaps it is better to just let sleeping dogs lie?

            2. Tan sri/datuk/tuan AK47,

Your contributions here are invaluable. May I suggest that you write a book on both May 13, 1969 tragedy, and the “dawn raids”, economic restructuring etc. These were historical milestones in the building of the malaysian nation the truth of which should be preserved for future generations to know, understand and appreciate. Who better to put them in writing if not the MAN in the thick of things during those unfolding events – by themselves stuff of bestsellers and blockbuster movies.

              1. Pe’ah. Thanks for the medals. I am the only fella amongst my Malay and some Chinese friends not ennobled. To be effective in this country, I kept a low profile since 1960 ! I have already written 2 books. 2 more are ready and 2 more planned !

                1. Ok tuan. Medals are medals. Some found their ways onto the chests of people belonging to simpang renggam courtesy of the EO (RIP). Credit where credit is due, though. Perhaps you would not mind sharing with us the titles of those books you’ve written and those forthcoming too.

            3. a british nationalist that went to ama cam u is of course not anti-british, who dun know ur mum is woman?

can only murmur correct correct but never korek korek, must be the anglo education.

              1. HY. Jealous er ? If you did not waste your parents money by playing with marbles, you too would have entered a top class university. You should be ashamed of your poor English.

                1. tuk ak, seem like u cant debate, even yr feeble attempts to insult so far is laughable. btw, china did vote once, when their people picked ccp over kmt, they vote with life n blood. u dun know this, do u?

                  1. HY. Have you ever heard of the saying,’Two heads are better than one’. It seems you are using the wrong head. Tut, tut. Debate with you who cannot even write simple Queen’s English !

                    1. nope, never. but whats the big friggin deal about queen’s english? did it make your look younger? n is that y yr reasoning ability was correspondingly reduced?

            1. shamshul anuar. I had access to the very top, side-ways and to the very bottom ACROSS ALL RACIAL BARRIERS SINCE 1960 TO 2003 AFTER WHICH I WAS EXCLUDED. The Deputy Inspector of Police Tan Sri Hussein was my close friend on 13 May 1969. I do not live in an ivory tower. And NO ONE HAS HEARD OF ME.

              1. shamshul anuar. If you read my comments carefully, you may hazard a guess that the ingredients for combustion on 13 May 1969 unfortunately came together at that single moment.

                1. shamshul anuar. I mentioned I had friends in the UMNO Youth (ultras). I knew them when I was younger and observed their difficulties and their aspirations. To this day, I am the only Chinaman who befriended the Malays from 1954 till now. AND DELIVERED THE FIRST AND BIGGEST CORPORATION SIME DARBY, now the flagship of the PNB. But before 1954, I did not even see one Malay apart from our driver ! And even my friends were the ULTRAS, I can say that they were/are not anti-Chinese or anti-Indian.

                  1. ‘And even my friends were the ULTRAS, I can say that they were/are not anti-Chinese or anti-Indian.’

They had bullied Tun M for being blunt most of the time as a Malay Ultra to keep him in check…its all bully!

The same label being tossed around now. So I kind of agree with AK47, since the labels does not represent what they really are. And AK47 had fondly remembered them as they are, with labels intact!

                    1. Islam 1st. The Malays I know for a lifetime are as good as the Chinese and the Chinese I know are as good as the Indians. Actually, apart from minor cultural differences, we are all in sync. IT IS THE OUTSIDERS WHO WANT US TO FIGHT EACH OTHER. YOU KNOW WHO. I SAW IT IN 1969.

  12. Ms H. Arising from my personal experiences and some knowledge of the reasons leading to the conflagration of 13 May 1969, I developed my concept of acquiring the British assets at the very top at market prices, no nationalization in order the Malays enter into big business immediatedly instead of the conventional method of building up businesses from the very bottom which normally did not succeed and bound to fail. I had sympathetic listeners at the very top of the pyramid amongst them the Governor of Bank Negara Malaysia, Tengku Razaleigh and Tun Abdul Razak who all understood what this concept was about. BY BUYING FROM THE BRITISH, THE CHINESE BUSINESS WERE NOT UNDER PRESSURE FROM THE MALAYS. AND THIS WAS HOW THE NON-MALYAY BUSINESSES ADVANCED RIGHT UP TO THIS DAY. However, the astute in MCA used this point AS AN EXCUSE TO MAKE MONEY BY POLITICOS BY SAYING SINCE THE MALAYS HAD SIME DARBY, THEY TOO MUST HAVE MULTI-PURPOSE HOLDINGS WHICH THEY SCREWED UP BIGTIME after which these chaps swore MCA WOULD NOT DO BUSINESSES AGAIN. However, by then, rich MCA leaders were at least 10 deep.

    1. There you are. A Chinaman delivered the first and biggest business conglomerate SIME DARBY to the Malays in 1972. I got Singapore’s 2 biggest business corporations to assist too. Hence, I am one of the many around to ensure that the unnecessary incidents of 13 May 1969 are not repeated. Actually, there is plenty in our beloved Malaysia for all. It is just a question of reverting to NORMALCY. And now who is responsible ? My favourite American President Harry S Truman once said, ‘THE BUCK STOPS AT MY DESK !’

      1. re: “Harry S Truman once said, ‘THE BUCK STOPS AT MY DESK !”

MCA is not taking responsibility for the losses that they caused the BN.

        1. Ms H. This is what I called weak leadership. This is what I have said that it is tough to be a Malaysian Chinese politician, RED MCA or BLUE Singapore Trojan Horse DAP. WHY ? BECAUSE THE DELIVERY OF THE GOODIES TO THE NON-MALAYS RESTS WITH A STRONG UMNO LEADERSHIP.which only happens when all Chinese vote BN. I hope this explains after years of ding-dong in all Blogs. And by blaming others, these chaps will certainly feel offended. Then, what do you get out of an offended person -NOTHING. THIS IS THE REASON WHY I SAID THE 90% CHINESE SHOULD HAVE VOTED THE BN BECAUSE THE CHINESE IN THE REST OF THE WORLD, EVEN IN CHINA (LKY’s book Chapter 1 on Chinese dissent) ALWAYS VOTE FOR THE GOVERNMENT OF THE DAY. Stupid.

          1. AK47 sir,

When you write “THE DELIVERY OF THE GOODIES TO THE NON-MALAYS RESTS WITH A STRONG UMNO LEADERSHIP” it reminded me of my late Chinese grandmother ( who adopt/borrowed me from my grandmother because she was lonely).

She once inform me, “If I asked for a Chinese to help me, they will asked how much I’m willing to pay, but if I asked a Malay they will help me then when I want to pay they will say it alright, get better first, then they will convineantly forget about it”.

            :) sarah

            1. sarah. I love it when people call me Sir. Then, I can tell them this true story. In the 1960s, I used to travel to Singapore by the first available Comet jet from Sungei Besi at 6 a.m. in the morning. There would be no one in the plane. The air stewardess would sit next to me and I have my breakfast.

Then, by the 1970s, they would call me ‘Mr’ and by the 1980s they called me ‘Sir’. I realised I was habis.

Coming to more serious matters at hand. You are absolutely right about the attitudes of different communities. It is the mind-set. Anyone who complains another community, I always emphasize to them that a Malay is COMPLETELY DIFFERENT from a Chinese as a Chinese is COMPLETELY DIFFERENT from an Indian because a Malay thinks NATURALLY that a Chinese should be like them and a Chinese thinks the Malays should be like them.

ONCE I CAREFULLY EXPLAIN TO EACH AND EVERY ONE THAT A MALAY CANNOT BE IN ALL RESPECTS A CHINESE AND A CHINESE CANNOT BE IN ALL RESPECTS A MALAY, IMMEDIATELY THEY SEE THE LIGHT AND UNDERSTAND THE ATTITUDE TOWARDS THEM BY THE MALAY AND VICE VERSA.

This is where the Red MCA failed to its mission because the leadership ONLY THINK OF MONEY. MONEY. MONEY LIKE SINGAPORE WHICH FAILED FOR THE SAME REASON. MONEY. MONEY. MONEY. Sarah. You try out my way. You will surely succeed.

              1. The MCA money-mindedness can be seen in their extreme J-Star profit motive.

Let the MCA money light their funeral pyre.

            1. HY. You are jealous because of this you will always be unsuccessful in life. Sorry to say you have a big inferiority complex and hide under a pseudonym to hit at those who are better than you. Look at yourself every morning and SEE THE DEVIL BEHIND THE MASK !

              1. HY, get a life! AK47 had done more good things to this nation than you ever did. So be grateful. Or maybe you kind memang cannot be grateful?!

  13. Ms H. Actually I have very great hopes for this country which is unique in every way especially the cheap and good food. But not least of all, despite all the NEGATIVES, we have a sort of DEMOCRACY IN PLACE which is now FINDING ITS LEVEL. Hopefully SANITY WILL PREVAIL OVER CRASS HUMAN BEHAVIOUR AND WE WILL SUCCEED.

  14. God, what an intimidating thread : )

I presume the gist of it is: “you started it, no you did, no YOU did”, etc etc, and then a bit of the good ol’ “cinabengbabi, behave yourself, because we Malays can still run amok at the drop of a hat, we invented the word, dammit!” countered by “no-one really peed, you know, it’s all a big lie” from the other side.

Same old, same old for years now (the peeing thing is new, though. Thanks Shuhaimi, for rejuvenating the debate with warm piss : )

Interesting that exactly the same history repeats, on and on and on, in cycles described here:

    http://mt.m2day.org/2008/content/view/12512/84/

Every time UMNO needs to reunite the Malays.

Boring and predictable, aren’t they, eh?

    1. Buta sejarah is worse.

Readers old enough to remember 1969 should tell us whether the Dapsters today are behaving just like the street protesters of May that year.

  15. islam1st. Generally the majority of the Malaysians of all races are good people. I have dealt with them for a lifetime, face to face. Hundreds, thousands. If we have strong political leadership, it will happiness +++ in this beloved land.
